How to Get Rebounds

Wilt Chamberlain holds the single season rebound per game record at just above 27. This seems impossible in this game.

Test - Created an 8' 1" Center, max rebound skill. He averages 13 rebounds per game.

Is there a way to get a Wilt like number of RPG>

First you have to get the 20,000 women stat incorporated. :p

Did you similarly nerf everyone else's rebound rating around him? Wilt isn't pulling down 27 rebounds with Shaq or Hakeem or Andre Drummond out there

In 1960-61, when Wilt pulled down 27.2 RPG, Paul Arazim had 8.6 per game, Tom Gola had 9.4 per game. All together, his teammates had 43.9 RPG.

In 1999-2000 Shaq had 13.6 RPG, while his teammates had 39.8.

Wilt had a lot of good rebounders around him.

I think Gary is talking about the quality of competition your 8'1"C is facing, not the quality of his teammates. His point is that if Wilt were facing players like Shaq or Hakeem he wouldn't have averaged 27 RPG. It's an interesting point of discussion. Wilt WAS facing players like Russell, Baylor and Pettit in 60/61. Russell averaged 23.9 himself that season, which ain't chickenfeed. Looking at the two head-to-head, Wilt out-rebounded Russell in 9 of their 13 head-to-head match-ups in 60/61, including a 55 to 19 rebounding blowout (Boston won that game, by the way ......). I think one could say that Wilt faced some pretty good competition himself back when he was putting up those monster numbers.

The HUGE difference in 1961 (and other seasons in the early years) is that ALL fouls went to the line and were shot. So there were significantly more rebounds to collect. Plus, the pace of play was much faster with more shots being taken--and scores higher, too. I've played many basketball games over the decades and discussed Wilt's seasons with several designers. There is really no way to replicate Wilt's early domination without significant changes to the game engine, is the general consensus.

Seems reasonable to me. One of my dreams for the game ..... someday ..... is that Gary will be able to replicate various historical tendencies and rules by era. Perhaps then it will be possible to have seasons like Wilt's. And also apply those historical rules etc to other eras, so maybe Hakeem also gets to play with all those juciy rebounds up for grabs. Wonder what kind of numbers some of the other great rebounders might put up if they could play under the same conditions Wilt had back then? Be fun to find out!!

Yes! Adding the various historical NBA eras (and players) would be an AWESOME advance for DDSPB.
