5/1: #5 recruiting class. Preseason #1.

6/5: We go after one guy.

6/12: We don’t get him.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We’ll try for 2 and 2.

8/7: 5 on the Norton list: PG Raul Mill is #2, PF Ed Abra is #4, PF Greg Knox is #6, SF Joe Lock is #7, and PF Bill Drye is #17. Can’t play all these guys at once unless
Lock can play SG. We’ll see!

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, an SF, a C.

9/18: Got 3, lost one. Got a PG, #9, a PG, #15 (Who may or may not hit our SAT score), and a C, #19.

Mem Tourney. We play Alabama ST.

10/2: We get our 4th recruit, a C, #27. If that PG hits our SAT score we’re all finished.

1st day of practice. We’re picked to win the Big 10.

11/6: 6 man rotation, each man getting either 32 or 34 minutes.

Junior Raul Mill is at PG. Junior Drew Samm starts at SG, subs at PG.

Soph Greg Knox starts at SF.

Soph Ed Abra starts at PF, subs at C. Junior Bill Drye starts at C.

Frosh Joe Lock subs at SG, SF, and PF.

Let’s get that title!

11/20: 2-0. 2 butt whippings, one of the #5 ranked team. Joe Lock may be a 1st team All American without starting. He is GOOD!!!

All 4 recruits sign.

Heading for the Mem Tourney where we’re the #1 seed. We play Alabama ST.

11/21: 84-63. 5 guys with 12 or more. +16 RBs, 5 TOs.

#5 seed Washington ST in the semis.

11/22: 80-61. Another team effort. 7 TOs.

#2 seed Penn ST. for the title.

11/23: 71-55. It wasn’t that close.

11/25: Our first loss, at #7 Memphis, by 1, on a half court buzzer beater. 105-104 in regulation. Yeah, not happy about our D! They shot 56.5%. We’ll be working on D, and I’ll be tough on the guys. Would have been just as tough if we’d won it, given the way we played D.

12/11: 8-1, #2, RPI #4. We just beat #1 North Carolina at our place- by 27! 5 guys are getting 12 or more. The 6th is getting 9.4, 7.1.

12/25: 10-1, #2, RPI #3. We beat the #1 team by 27 and we’re still #2? +23.0 PPG, +9.4 RBs, +6.9 TOs.

1/1/2034: 12-1, 2-0.

1/15: 16-1, 6-0, #1, RPI #1. We have so many weapons. It seems like a different guy gets it done every game.

1/29: 19-2, 9-1, #1, RPI #1. We lost by 2 at Ohio ST. We have now lost twice, once by 1 point, once by 2. +21.2 PPG, +11.0 RBs, +5.8 TOs. 6th man Joe Lock leads us with 17.5, but all 6 guys contribute.

Joe Lock is #10 on the Norton list. Bill Drye is #11, Ed Abra is #12, Raul Mill is #19.

2/12: 23-2, 13-1, #1, RPI #1.

2/19: 25-2, 15-1. It’s all going to come down to a showdown with #3 ranked Michigan ST, there, on 2/21.

2/21: 97-87! We were down 19 early in the 2nd half and just couldn’t miss from then on, outscoring Mich. ST 56-28 for the rest of the game. 20, 11 for Abra, 13, 10 for Bill Drye, 11, 11 for Greg Knox, 13,6 for Joe Lock, 13 for little used PF Ad Deso, 12 for Drew Samm. +17 RBs, 11 TOs. Great win!

2/26: 27-2, 17-1 going to the post season. Alone in 1st in the Big 10. #1, RPI #1. +20.1 PPG, +11.2 RBs, +5.4 TOs.

3/5: 3 guys going pro: forwards Joe Lock, and Ed Abra, and little used by high potential guard Pat Jenk. The guys coming in had better live up to their promise!

Lock is #10 on the Norton list.

3/7: We play #8 seed Wisconsin, 14-14, 9-9, in the 1/4 final round.

3/8: 84-55. 27, 10 for Joe Lock. 6 guys had 9 each. +12 RBs, +12 TOs. Easy win.

#4 seed, #23 ranked UConn, 20-11, 11-7, in the semis. We won by 12 there.

3/9: 76-62. They led by 11 late in the 1st half. 17 each for Abra and Mill, 15, 8 for Lock. +8 RBs.

#3 seed, #6 ranked Maryland, 28-3, 15-3, for the title. Beat them by 24 here.

3/10: 87-61. 23, 4, 6 for Raul Mill, tourney MOP. +13 RBs, 8 TOs. We sailed through the Big 10 tourney and we should be #1 overall.

30-2, 17-1, #1, RPI #1.

3/12: #1 overall. We play #16 Princeton, 16-16, first.

3/16: 85-69. Never close. 6 players scored between 12 and 18. +15 TOs.

#8 seed Florida, 22-10, in the 2nd. They have a very good Center.

3/18: 82-49. 23, 8 for Lock, 14, 11 for Drye. +11 RBs.

#5 seed, #23 ranked Villanova, 21-8, in the Sweet Sixteen.

3/23: 91-73. 25, 7 for Lock, 22, 12 for Abra. +18 RBs.

#6 seed, #19 ranked Oklahoma ST, 22-9, in the Elite Eight.

3/25: 77-65. 21 for Mill, 15 each for Lock and Samm. +10 TOs. Final Four!

We play #2 ranked North Carolina in the national semifinal. Beat them by 27 at our place but there’s no way it will be that easy this time. They’re very good outside.

4/1: 82-79. We were down 15 early. We scored the last 5 points. 20 for Mill, 19 for lock, 11, 16 for Drye. -15 RBs. Unusual for us to lose the battle of the boards at all, let alone that badly. +6 TOs. This one was a battle!

#4 seed, 3* ranked UMass, 32-5, for the title. We beat them by 39 in late November. Their SG is #2 on the Norton list. We held him to 13 last time.

4/3: 87-73, and my 2nd title! 23, 7 for Joe Lock, 16 for Mill, 13, 10 for Abra, 12, 11, 5 for Drye, 12, 6, 8 for Samm. +18 RBs. It was close for about 25 minutes.

4/4: Awards: Joe Lock was Final Four MOP, 2nd team All American. I was named National COY. In Conf., Bill Drye was Def. POY. He, Joe Lock, and Ed Abra made 1st team.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. Got $14,000.

36-2, 17-1, National Title. Overall, 444-105, .809.

11/20: 2-0 start. All 6 recruits sign.

#1 seed at the Mem Tourney. We 8 seed FL ST, 1-1, in the 1/4 finals.

11/21: 79-57. 20, 10 for PF Greg Knox. +10 TOs, +8 RBs.

#5 seed, #19 ranked Ohio ST, 3-0, in the semis.

11/22: 89-64. 24, 9 for SG Anto Spen, 22, 6 for PG Raul Mill, 18, 119 for C Bill Drye. +12 RBs, +8 TOs.

#2 seed, #4 ranked Syracuse, 4-0, for the title. This will be a good early test for us.

11/23: 63-70. Their SG got 36. We just couldn’t stop him. We’ll work on it. Their D held us to 30.3%, we were -11 on the boards, which is VERY unusual. The refs didn’t help, but ‘Cuse was the better team tonight. We’ll see what happens if we meet in the Big Dance.

11/27: 2 losses in a row. #19 Louisville just beat us there. We shot terribly again, 31.8%.

12/11: 7-2, #2, RPI #2. All right, three straight wins against ranked teams since the back to back losses.

12/25: 9-2 going to Conf. play. #2, RPI #1. +12.2 PPG, +5.0 RBs, +5.5 TOs.

1/1/2035: 10-3, 1-1. Ohio ST beat us by 3 there. We shot poorly and defended very poorly.

1/15: 14-3, 5-1. #2, RPI #1. All 5 starters average 11.9 or better.

1/29: 18-3, 9-1, #2, RPI #1. 2 game lead in Conf. +14.5 PPG, +8.2 RBs, +5.1 TOs.

Raul Mill is #11, Bill Drye #17, Greg Knox #19 on the Norton list.

2/12: 21-4, 12-2, #1, RPI #1. Drye is #14, Mill #15, Knox #19 on the Norton list. 3 game lead in the Big 10. 3 of our last 4 are on the road.

2/26: 24-5, 15-3, #1, RPI #1. We win the Big 10 by 2 games. +13.8 PPG, +7.3 RBs, +5.9 TOs. Mill leads us with 17.1. Drye gets 10.1 RBs.

3/5: Greg Knox and two guys who don’t figure in our plans go pro.

3/7: We play #9 seed Wisconsin, 17-12, 8-10, in the 1/4 finals.

3/8: 67-66. We expected an easy game. It was anything BUT that. They hung close and took the lead several times, and at the end, they got the ball down one, with
8.9 left, plenty of time to set up a good shot. They set a double screen, got an open look at a 12 footer, and it rolled out as the buzzer went. We were that close to losing. 27, 5, 4 for Mill, but no one else did much of anything except Knox, who had 9 and 16. We couldn’t make baskets (32.4%. +7 RBs, +7 TOs.

#5 seed, #7 ranked Illinois, 23-9, 11-7, in the semis. Their SG has a leg problem, but it’s slight, and he’ll play. They won by 9 there. Their SF leads the nation in scoring. We need to be better than we were last night in order to win this one.

3/9: 89-80. Their SF got 33, but we shut down everyone else, and SG Anto Spen had 39, maybe his best game ever. 16, with 11 assists for Mill. +8 TOs. Our guards won this one; we were -8 on the boards. This team needs to get it together; we really haven’t done that this year. I know, only 5 losses, but still. I just feel like there’s something not working, and it’s a different something every game.

#2 seed, #21 ranked Michigan ST, 23-7, 13-5, for the Big 10 title. We beat them by 16 and 6, but it’s hard to beat a good team 3 times, and they’re good!

3/10: 90-76. We finally put a good game together. 34, 10 for Knox, 18, 10 for Drye, 14, 4, 8 for Mill, 15, 3, 5 for Spen. +8 RBs, +6 TOs.

27-5, #1 ranked, #1 RPI. #1 seed overall?

3/12: #1 overall. We play #16 seed UL Lafayette, 17-16. It’s a good bracket for us.

3/16: 100-69. Mismatch. 21 each for Knox and SF Drew Samm.

#8 seed Louisville, 22-8, in the 2nd round.

3/18: 78-53. 25, 4, 7 for Spen, 24, 5, 7 for Mill. The inside guys rebounded (+10).

#5 seed, #11 ranked Brigham Young, 26-8, in the Sweet Sixteen. On paper it’s a mismatch, but I’m not so sure. We beat them by 16 in the season opener.

3/23: 73-84. Just an awful night. Their starting guards got 48, and we were -6 on the boards. We just didn’t play.

4/3: #3 Kentucky wins the title.

4/4: Awards: Raul Mill, Bill Drye, and Greg Knox, none of whom will be back, make the Big 10 first team. Anto Spen, who WILL be back, makes the 2nd.

4/16: I lose my #2 and #3 assistants.

4/23: We ask for $. No.

29-6, 15-3. Overall, 473-111, .810.

Try again next year. We’re losing some good guys, but we have LOTS of talent coming in.

5/1: #1 recruiting class. #1 preseason.

6/5: We lose Anto Spen. That hurts. Never any indication that he was unhappy here.

6/26: No seniors, but 4 scholarships. We hope to get 2 and 2.

8/7: PG Ken Babu is #1 on the Norton list. PG Mike Dele is #2, and C Cass Brow is #4.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, a PF, a C.

9/18: Got 3, lost 1. Got A C, #5, a PF, #7, a PG, #8. We want another guard.

Going to the JAG Holiday vs. Washington ST.

9/25: Got the last one, a PG, #17.

10/2: 1st day of practice, and we’re down to win the Big 10, which seems a little weak this season. We’ll see.

11/6: 7 man rotation:

Frosh Mike Dele and Ken Babu are at guard. Both play both guard spots.

Frosh Rudy Snow starts at SF, subs at PF. Juco junior Boot Davy, and soph Eric Myra sub at SF.

Jaq Star, a junior transfer from Florida, starts at PF, subs at C.

Frosh Cass Brow starts at C.

We’re really young and inexperienced, but I think we have a real shot to win it all.

11/20: 2-0 start. 2 blow outs, over #7 and #16. Ken Babu is averaging 33. Mike Dele is averaging 8 assists.

All 4 recruits sign.

12/4: 5-0, #1, RPI #1. Closest game was 17 points, and 4 of the 5 were against top 16 teams.

12/22: 8-0. Headed for the JAG Holiday vs. Wash. ST. We’re the #1 seed.

12/23: 74-51. SG Ken Babu gets 21, 7, 4, 3. PG Mike Dele gets 18, 7, 6. 11, 15 for PF Jaq Star. 50 RBs, 8 TOs.

#5 seed Texas A & M, 6-3, in the semis.

12/24: 98-70. 30, 12 for Babu, 18, 9 for C Cass Brow, 10, 8, 10, a near triple double for Mike Dele. 57 RBs, 8 TOs.

#3 seed, Marquette, 9-3, for the title.

12/25: 100-73. 21, 16 for Star, 29 for Babu, 19, 9 for Brow. 49 RBs, 8 TOs.

11-0 going to Conf. play. +22.7 PPG, +22.8 RBs, +4.4 TOs. Babu gets 26.8, Brow gets 15.5, 11.5, Dele gets 15.9, 7.0 assists, Star gets 12.7, 11.0. This is one tough team!
