3/6: We play #5 seed Auburn, 19-9, 10-6, in the 1/4 final. We won by 9 there.

3/7: 81-74. We led by as many as 17. 24, 12 for C Del Herd, 19 for guard Aron Huse.

#1 seed UMass, 21-9, 11-5, in the semis. We won by 17 at our place. We expect it to be a lot tougher this time.

3/8: 80-71. We led by as many as 19. 16 for guard Son Evan, 12 and 12 for PF Cris Vick, 13, 9 for SF Lon Hill. +17 RBs.

#2 seed, #12 ranked Fresno ST for the title. They crushed us at their place.

3/9: 64-82. These guys have our number. Their PG hit 10 threes.

25-7, 10-6, #16, RPI #22. #5? #6?

3/12: #5 West. We play #12 Rhode Island, 20-10, Conf. F, first. Good team.

3/17: 55-78. Disappointing. We were awful.

Oh well, we’ll be moving up to D, if I stay.

4/3: #1 Indiana is the champ!

4/4: Awards: Frosh Center Del Herd is Conf. E POY, Frosh OY, 1st team. Soph PG Son Evan and Soph PF/C Cris Vick make 2nd team.

4/9: Some interesting offers, but not interesting enough. I’m staying.

4/23: I ask for $ again. Got $10,000.

25-8, 10-6. Overall, 157-70, .692.

She’s blond and petite. Angela, that is. She’s on the feisty side and I don’t always get my way or get what I want. She stands her ground. She’s really bright, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor although it can be cutting at times. She’s very independent. She’s competitive. Whatever we do, she likes it to be competitive and she wants to win, and can be a little pouty if she doesn’t. She’s artistic, does a little ballet, more gymnastics, and LOVES to dance. We go dancing often. She’s not a great cook so when we stay at home I cook.

You say she’s not real, she’s only virtual. I say, define “real.”

5/1: 65th best recruiting class. Not great. We buy the Midwest gold.

6/5: Looking.

6/12: We get a PG from Texas Tech. looks pretty good!

6/26: 2 scholarships. We need guards. Not even looking at big guys.

8/21: We offer to a PG, and an SG.

9/18: Got ‘em both! SG #51, PG #67.

Caribbean Tourney vs. Hawaii.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We’re picked 6th in Conf. D.

11/6: 8 man rotation:

Junior Son Evan is at PG. Soph Aron Huse is at SG. Soph Tal Yonn subs at both guard spots.

Soph Del Herd is at SF. Senior Ham Wilk subs.

Junior Cris Vick starts at PF, subs at C. Juco junior Eric Puzy will get lots of minutes at PF.

Soph Lon Hill starts at C.

It’s interesting that Angela’s personality seems to develop as I spend time with her. At first there simply wasn’t mush personality, but it gets deeper and more complex with every visit. Interesting. And if you were wondering, there is no way to tell, none at all, that she is anything other than fully human.

11/20: 2-0 start.

Both recruits sign.

12/4: 5-1, RPI #18. Eric Puzy is starting now. He was playing too well not to get max minutes.

12/15: 7-1 as we head to the Caribbean. We’re the #2 and face #7 Hawaii, 3-5.

12/16: 86-67. 19,8 for SF Del Herd, 12, 17 for PF Eric Puzy, 13, 13 for 6th man Cris Vick. +21 RBs.

#6 seed LaSalle, 4-5, in the semis.

12/17: 85-68. 23, 7 for Hill, 21, 6, 4 for Puzy, 14, 4, 3 for #3 guard, Tal Yonn, and 13, 7 for 6th man Cris Vick. +10 RBs, 10 TOs.

#1 seed, #20 ranked Iowa ST, 10-0, for the title. We need to be at our best.

12/18: 82-74 and the title. 29, 10 for tourney MOP Lon Hill, 17, 5 for guard Aron Huse. +24 RBs.

1/1/2230: We go to conf. play at 12-1. #23, RPI #29. +12.3 PPG, +14.0 RBs, +0.8 TOs.

Angela and I go on lots of hikes. I created her to be athletic and to like challenging hikes, especially “bushwhacking,” where you leave the trail and just go, through thick undercover, through rocky climbs and descents, through whatever the terrain brings. The trick is to hike for several hours, and to wind up back where you started front without the aide of electronic maps and such. We love it. Then we head back home and let the 3D replicator make us a great meal.

1/15: 14-3, 2-2. The old problem of not playing well on the road. #17, RPI #23.

1/29: 16-6, 4-4. Still can’t win on the road in conf. #19, RPI #19. In 8th place in Conf. D.

2/12: 18-7, 6-6. 0-6 on the road in conf. Still #19, RPI #23. Tied for 7th.

2/26: We end the regular season at 21-8, 9-7. Finally won a road game. Alone in 7th place. #17, RPI #15. +4.9 PPG, +9.6 RBs (We’re #1 in the nation in RBs), +1.6 TOs. 16.1, 7.8 for Lon Hill, 12.9, 8.9 for Eric Puzy, 12.9 for guard Aron Huse, 11.9, 5.6 assists for Sam Evan.

The nice thing about having a virtual girl friend is that when I’m too busy to check in, there are no consequences whatsoever. When I’m ready, she’s there. When I’m not, she doesn’t exist. Perfection!

Evidently, LOTS of people agree. Surveys are showing real time relationships declining steeply. Good? Bad? I have no idea.

3/8: It’s #10 seed Florida ST, 17-12, in the first round of the Conf. D tourney. We beat them by 22 at our place, but on paper it looks close.

3/9: 80-57. We came to play tonight. 15, 16 for Puzy, 17, 10 for Hill. 13 each for the starting guards. +17 RBs.

#2 seed Fresno ST, 18-10, 12-4, in the 1/4 finals. We didn’t play them this season. On paper, we’d better play like we did tonight or we’re in trouble.

3/10: 79-89. D was awful, especially outside D- they made 18 threes. 18 for both Hill and Huse.

22-9, 9-7, #16, RPI #16.

3/12: #5 Midwest. We play #12 Bradley, 23-10.

3/16: 83-76. 21, 16 for Puzy, 21 for Huse, 17, 6 for Hill. +15 RBs.

#4 seed, #14 ranked UCLA, 20-11, in the 2nd round. Their SF is the best player in the country. This will not be easy.

3/18: 82-92. We stopped their superstar (18, 13), but 5 other guys had 10 or more. 23, 10 for Hill, 18 for Son Evan. They were the better team.

4/3: #1 North Carolina wins the title.

4/4: Awards: Soph Center Lon Hill is Conf. D POY and 1st team. Junior PF Eric Puzy also makes 1st team. I get Conf. COY, which I don’t understand, but I’ll take it.

4/9: No decent offers, yet again.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. Got it! C+ to B+.

23-10, 9-7. Overall, 180-80, .692.

I finally got a chance to spend some time with Angela over the past couple of weeks. I guess it’s a “suspension of disbelief” kind of thing, but when we’re together she seems complete real to me. I actually forget that she’s virtual. And if you were to accompany me into the VR chamber, and didn’t know whether she was real person who entered the chamber with us, or a VR person who “lived” in the chamber, you would have no way of telling which she is. It’s pretty amazing, really.

5/1: #26 recruiting class.

6/5: Looking.

6/12: No luck.

6/26: 6 scholarships.

8/21: We offer to 3 PGs, a PF, 2 Cs.

9/18: Got a PF, #77, and a C, #79.

Hawaiian vs. Western Carolina. Slightly tougher schedule.

10/2: Got a C, #75, a PG, #80, a PG #181. One PG to go.

We’re picked to win the conf.

11/6: 9 man rotation:

Senior Son Evan starts at PG. Soph Wes Turn, a transfer from Texas Tech, starts at SG. Frosh Rudy Geer subs at both guard spots and frosh Sam Noya subs at SG.

Senior Eric Puzy starts at SF. Junior Del Herd subs at SF and PF.

Senior Cris Vick starts at PF, subs at C. Senior Kin Alan subs at PF.

Junior Lon Hill is back at C.

Our space program has finally launched a ship that has been in the works for decades. It will be a multi-generational, one way trip to Alpha Centauri. The aim is to colonize a planet there that seems Earth-like in every conceivable way. It’s a huge ship, and there are 600 people on it. They will send back reports of their progress for as long as possible. Very exciting!

11/17: 1-0. Heading for the Hawaiian. We’re the #3 seed and we play #6 Western Carolina.

11/18: 96-88 in OT. Tougher than expected. 21, 11 for SF/PF Eric Puzy, 17, 11 for C Lon Hill, 10, 10 for PF/C Cris Vick. +17 RBs was the difference.

#2 seed Auburn in the semis. Their starting SF pulled a hamstring in today’s game.

11/19: 85-67. 20, 10 for Puzy, 18, 12 for Hill. +18 RBs.

#5 seed George Washington upset UCLA, so we play them for the title. We think we’re better, but we need to play that way.

4 recruits signed. A PG didn’t, which means we only have 1 PG committed to us at this point.

11/20: 87-72 and the title. 23, 5 for Hill, 13, 11 for Puzy, 15, 4, 8 for PG Son Evan, 13, 4 for 6th man Del Herd.

We were ranked #14 before this win!

11/27: 6-0, #8, RPI #22. #8 is too high but I think we’re a legitimate top 25 team.

12/11: 10-0, #7, RPI #12. We bumped up the schedule a little, but we’re winning! BUT, almost all of our games have been at home. When we get to conf. play we’ll see what happens!

1/1/2231: We go to Conf. D play undefeated, 13-0. #14, RPI #11. +15.7 PPG, +10.9 RBs, +4.4 TOs. We know we won’t stay undefeated, but we hope to win the conf.

When I said last time that we had “launched” a multi-generational, one way ship with 600 people aboard, I wasn’t clear enough. You don’t launch a vessel like that. You build it in space, with robots and a few human supervisors, and when it’s built you send people up to it in small groups via space planes and shuttles. Anyway, the ship left Earth orbit and is headed for its destination. Pretty amazing!

1/15: 16-1, 3-1. Lost a road game but then beat #14 NC ST at home. #11, RPI #11. #1 in the nation in RBs, #2 in PPG, #7 in TOs.

1/29: 19-2, 6-2. #9, RPI #8. In a 2 way tie for 2nd in Conf. D. +12.8 PPG, +11.1 RBs, +3.0 TOs. Hill leads us with 21.0; he’s our #3 rebounder with 8.3 12.8, 9.2 for Puzy. 12.0, 6.2 assists for Son Evan. 8.3, 10.5 for Cris Vick.

2/12: 22-3, 9-3, #6, RPI #4. In a 2 way tie for 1st with 3 teams one back and 4 to play.

2/26: 25-4, 12-4, tied for 1st. #7, RPI #4, going to the post season. +12.3 PPG, +10.4 RBs, +3.3 TOs.

Spent some time with Angela. We went on a really challenging hike and ran into a snake. It was as startled as we were and it headed for the deep woods.
