The Year 2222 Promotion/Relegation

11/14: 80-86. We did much better than I had feared. 18, 10 for C Dan Hack, 18, 5, 3 for PG Ed Bett, 12 for 6th man SF Al Cass. +9 RBs.

We didn’t play much D but the offense did well.

11/20: My recruits all sign.

12/4: 2-3, only 2-2 at home. Not good. Time to make some lineup adjustments. Dan Hack is looking very good at C.

12/18: 4-5. We can’t seem to get to .500. And these teams are not as good as those we’ll play in conference.

1/1/2234: 6-5 going to Conf. B play. RPI #124. This may be the last time we’re above .500 this season. Hack leads us with 15.0, 10.4.

Another murdered woman. This one was a waitress, killed in the parking lot of the restaurant where she worked. The authorities have mobilized more people to do late night police duty. Again, we have no police as such, but we’re all trained to do police work. Well, lots more of us will be doing that until we catch this monster. 11 murders so far.

1/15: 7-8, 1-3, RPI #151. We just don’t have the players to compete at this level. We got beat up badly in each of our last three games.

1/29: 8-11, 2-6, RPI #169. Tied for 14th, as predicted. -6.4 PPG, +6.2 RBs, -2.5 TOs. Dan Hack leads us with 14.3, 9.8, but he’s not getting much help.

2/12: 10-13, 4-8, RPI #158. I don’t see much chance that we can finish at .500.

2/26: 11-16, 5-11, at the end of the regular season, tied for 13th. RPI #185. -6.8 PPG, +4.6 RBs, -2.1 TOs. Hack gets 13.9, 9.6. OT win against #17 Oklahoma in the finale. I couldn’t believe we won that one. They had a cold shooting night, but I’ll take it!

I’m guessing our season is over.

3 more victims of the killer who is now being called “The Hollywood Slasher.” He uses various kinds of knives and swords in his killings. You would think a sword would be pretty hard to hide, but so far he’s managing. The authorities still don’t have any leads; at least that’s what they’re saying in the press. People are afraid to be out late at night. Those who need to are running scared, as they should be. 14 victims in just a few months.

3/12: Yep. Our season is over.

4/3: #2 Michigan ST is the champ.

4/4: Awards: No awards for us. Not surprised.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

11-16, 5-11. Overall, 277-115, .707.

Looking forward to a MUCH better season!

Two more murders by The Hollywood Slasher. Ugh. I want to talk about something else.

The space ship we sent to Tau Ceti has now reached the orbit of Neptune. We’ve had vessels there before, but this ship is doing some tests on a couple of Neptune’s moons that are really very sophisticated. There has seemed to be a strong possibility of life on one moon in particular. There’s a weird balance caused by what previous explorations indicated might be underground hot springs. These springs seem to elevate surface temps to above freezing. This vessel hopes to find ways to determine whether that’s actually true, and if it is, what sorts of life forms are down there, if any.

Wayne - I'm really enjoying reading your recaps and your season progression. One question, when you post that you got a recruit, the # after is that the national ranking? For example, you post something like:

Got a PG #73...is that the national ranking or positional ranking?

5/1: #1 recruiting class. #11 preseason.

6/5: No one of interest in the transfer pool.

6/26: 5 scholarships. We need 3 guards.

8/7: SF Jim Mill is #2 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to a PG, an SG, 2 PFs, and a C.

9/11: Lost a C.

9/18: Got a PF, #13, a PG, #50.

Coaches Classic vs. Wisconsin

9/25: Got the rest: an SG, #13, a PF, #25, a PG, #27.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We’re picked to win Conf. C.

This team is clearly way better than last year’s. Hoping to have a lot more fun!

11/6: 9 man rotation:

Frosh Clif Chey starts at PG, subs at SG. Frosh Ryan Rame starts at SG, subs at PG. Senior Tom Dary and juco junior Dan King sub at SG.

Frosh Jim Mill is at SF, backed by senior Kit Hoin.

Juco junior Jay Benn starts at PF, subs at C. Walk on senior Tory Wats subs at PF.

Frosh Jon Alan is at C.

We’ll start the season at the Coaches Classic vs. #7 seed Wisconsin. We’re the #10 seed.

The serial killer continues. We’re up to 19 known murders. If the authorities have any leads they aren’t making that public.

11/13: 92-84 over Wisconsin in the 1st round of the Coaches Classic. Jim Mill had 34 and 11, and looked every bit as good as the whole country has been saying he is. What a debut! 22, 5, 3 for SG Ryan Rame, 15 for PG Clif Chey, and 11, 10 for C Jon Alan. +12 RBs, 11 TOs. Great start!

#2 seed, #11 ranked Duke in the 2nd round. Not sure we’re ready for this level of challenge yet. We’ll find out!

11/15: 53-62. Mill had 15 and 12, Alan had 18 and 9, but they shut us down. We shot 22.7%, mostly because they play really solid D. Oh well, it’s early.

11/20: All 5 recruits sign.

12/4: 5-1. #17, RPI #42. Mill is getting 25.7, 11.2, and Alan is getting 16.7, 8.8. 15.5 for Rame.

12/18: 9-1, #10, RPI #16. 25.1, 11.4 for Mill, who is #2 on the Norton list. He, Alan, and Rame are a powerful trio.

1/1/2235: 11-1, #7, RPI #4. +13.6 PPG (#4 in the nation), +14.1 RBs, (#1), +2.8 TOs (#4). Mill gets 24.5, 11.3. 15.1, 9.3 for Alan. 16.3 for Rame.

We’ve hit 25 murders that all seem related, all attributed to The Hollywood Slasher.

The population is falling. The VR chambers are the reason. People are choosing to have “virtual kids” with virtual mates. Neither the kids nor the mates ever leave the VR chamber. The real live mother or father can visit and interact with them as much or as little as possible. Relationships involving two or more real people have declined to unprecedented and completely unpredicted levels. Even friendships among real people have declined significantly. We are becoming, perhaps already have become, a society of isolates.

1/15: 14-2, 3-1; #8, RPI #8. Considering 3 of the 4 conf. games were on the road, I’m pleased. SF Jim Mill and C Jon Alan are both enormously talented.

1/29: 16-4, 5-3, #7, RPI #6. +7.6 PPG, +14.4 RBs, +0.4 TOs. Tied for 3rd. I thought we’d be doing better, but the schedule is favorable from here on.

Jim Mill is #2 on the Norton list.

2/12: 19-5, 8-4, #6, RPI #5. In a 4 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of 1st.

Jim Mill is #1 on the Norton list. He is an amazing player. I doubt we’ll have him for more than a year, so let’s enjoy this year!

2/26: 23-5, 12-4, #6, RPI #4. We win Conf. C by one game. + 9.0 PPG, +13.8 RBs, +0.7 TOs.

3/5: Jim Mill is still #1 on the Norton list. He and PG Ryan Rame are going pro. I am thrilled that Jon Alan is staying with us!

Walter Wayne White has been arrested for murder, and he is suspected of being “The Hollywood Strangler.” The authorities aren’t saying much, but they ARE saying that they are confident that they have their man. We can only hope so!

3/9: We play #9 seed Cincy, 15-13, 8-8, in the 1/4 finals. We won by 12 there.

3/10: 80-66. 26, 5 for Alan, 23, 6 for Mill, 12 assists for SG Clif Chey. +18 TOs.

#4 seed Fresno ST, 19-11, 9-7, in the semis. They won by 9 there. On paper it looks close. We’ll see.

3/11: 82-70. 24, 9 for Mill, 10, 11 for PF Jay Benn. +15 RBs.

#2 seed, #25 ranked Marquette, 20-9, 11-5, for the title. They beat us by 7 there. Good team.

3/12: 105-98. It was close until late, when Mill scored 7 straight points to give us a 9 point lead. He had 29, 7. 22, 14 for Jay Benn, 14, 11 for Alan. +9 TOs, +8 RBs.

26-5, 12-4, #4, RPI #2. #1 seed?

#2 East. We were robbed! We play #15 Charlotte, 19-12, from G.

3/16: 102-94, but it wasn;t that close and we never trailed. 31, 10 for Alan, 21, 13 for Mill, 11, 15 for Benn, 15 for Chey, 13, 8 for Rame. +26 RBs, 11 TOs.

#10 seed West Virginia, 17-12, in the 2nd round. We won by only 10 here.

3/18: 88-75. 18, 9 for Mill. All 5 starters had 10 or more. +9 TOs.

#3 seed, #11 ranked Southern Illinois, my old school, in the Sweet Sixteen. They’re 24-9. On paper it’s a toss up.

3/23: 63-80. Ouch! 16, 9 for Jim Mill, in his last college game. Only 2 for Rame in his last game.

4/3: #1 Michigan ST is the champ.

4/4: Awards: Jim Mill wins the Norton Award; 1st team All American. In Conf., Mill is POY, Frosh OY, 1st team along with Jon Alan. I get Conf. C COY.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

28-6, 12-4. HUGE improvement over last season. Overall, I’m 305-121, .716.

Walter Wayne White is an unemployed house painter. He couldn’t hold a job because of his weird personality. Several of his former employers and fellow workers described him as “unbalanced,” “really weird,” “nutty as a fruitcake”… He had no prior arrests, but was “on the radar” due to complaints about harassment, stalking… But there was never quite enough evidence to nab him for anything. He has said nothing in the weeks that he has been in custody, not one word. He won’t even talk to his court appointed lawyer. The insiders say he will probably be sent to a facility for the criminally insane. Time will tell.
