MWCCCCT

Using DDSCB2018's Tournament Maker, I set up the: Major West Coast City Catholic College Tournament (MWCCCCT).

It was a 2-day tournament with 4 teams from Catholic colleges in 4 major cities on the West Coast played at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California (a neutral site).

Representing Seattle:
Seattle University Redhawks (Western ‘Conference) (Prestige 14)

Representing Portland:
University of Portland Pilots (West Coast Conference) (Prestige 14)

Representing San Francisco:
University of San Francisco Dons (West Coast Conference) (Prestige 14)

Representing San Diego:
University of San Diego Toreros (West Coast Conference) (Prestige 20)

MWCCCCT Day 1:

San Diego vs Portland:

Very tight game for the first 10 minutes, but midway through the half San Diego opened a 7 point lead but both teams were hitting just over 30% of their shots. Portland tied the game again with just over 4 minutes left in the half when SF Paul Jackson grabbed a rebound and put it back up and in. The half ended with San Diego on top 28-27. All stats were pretty close except that the Toreros had gotten to the line 7 more times where they had made 4 more points that the Pilots. C Brad Ray led the scoring for San Diego with 10 points. Portland’s scoring was topped by SF Paul Jackson with 7 points.

In the 2nd half, San Diego was called for their 7th team foul after just 4 minutes of play and Portland led 38-36. San Diego began hitting their shots and opened an 11 point lead with 6 minutes left in the game. The lead ballooned to 17 points as Portland’s shooting went ice-cold. The Toreros held onto their lead and won 72-55 by out-shooting the Pilots 47% to 37%.

San Diego’s SF Terrell White dropped in 16 points and C Brad Ray and SF Daniel Murphy both scored 14. Murphy also has 10 rebounds to record a double-double. For Portland, SF Paul Jackson and SG Vidal Boxler both hit for 13 points while Boxler also had 8 boards.

San Francisco vs Seattle

San Francisco jumped out to an 8-2 lead after 2 minutes of play and then when SF Isaac McWilliams hit his second 3, expanded their lead to 16-6 with 14:41 left in the half. With just over 7 minutes remaining til the break, San Francisco had a commanding 37-18 lead. San Francisco ended their first half offensive shot by recording a 52-33 advantage. San Francisco hit 61% of their FG’s whereas Seattle only hit 48% of theirs. San Francisco’s C Clyde Keys scored 14 points and C Darryl Baxter led Seattle’s scoring with 10 points.

The Dons opened a 22 point lead after 2 minutes of play in the 2nd half and 5 minutes later were on top by 26. Seattle made a run that brought them within 12 points with 6 minutes left. They then closed to with 9 with 1-1/2 minutes remaining. But they could get no closer. San Francisco came away with a convincing 89-75 victory. The Dons held an 18-9 turnover advantage and hit 12 of 22 from 3-point distance.

San Francisco’s C Clyde Keys hit for 21 points plus pulled down 8 rebounds. SG Joe Young had 13 points and PF Dave Evans 12 and reserves Isaac McWilliams and Kenny Adams added 13 and 12 points, respectively. C Darryl Baxter finished with 14 points, 7 assists, and 6 boards for Seattle. PG C.J. Jones scored 13 and SG Jason Joyce added 12 for the Redhawks.

MWCCCCT Day 2:

Consolation Game: Portland vs Seattle

Portland piled up early fouls allowing Seattle to take an early 7-2 lead. But the Pilots hit their FG’s and came back to take an 11-10 lead with 13-1/2 minutes left in the half. Before Seattle was called for its first foul with 11-1/2 minutes remaining in the first half, Portland had already been called for 9 fouls, allowing the Redhawks to possess a 17-16 lead. The two teams battled through 15 lead changes and 7 ties with Portland coming out on top at the end of the half, 42-39. Portland was led by four players who each scored 6 points. Seattle’s Orien Goode came off the bench to score 9 points in 4 minutes of play.

The back-and-forth game continued in the 2nd half with numerous lead changes. With 9:32 remaining, the teams were tied 60-60. Portland then scored the next 7 points. The Pilots expanded their lead to 73-62 with 5:14 to go. Portland then stormed to a 93-77 win to finish in 3rd place in the tournament. Portland won by outshooting the Redhawks 56% to 48% and holding an 18-10 turnover advantage even though Seattle out-rebounded the Pilots 29-21 and scored 10 more points at the foul line.

SF Paul Jackson and C David Howell both scored 16 points for Portland with PF D.J. Thompson connecting for 15 points and reserves Langston Hines and Scott Robinson scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Seattle was led by PG C.J. Jones with 13 points, C Darryl Baxter’s 12 points, PF Bryan Richardson with 11 points, and SF Torrey Smith adding 10.

Championship Game: San Diego vs San Francisco

San Francisco scored the first 6 points in the game. San Diego came back to take their first lead at 16-15 with 12-1/2 minutes to go in the half. The Toreros went ahead by 12 with 1-1/2 minutes remaining and finished the half ahead by a score of 40-30 as they hit 65% of their FG attempts. SG Tavoris Augustine scored 11 for San Diego and SG Joe Young popped in 16 for USF.

San Diego took a 19 point lead with 15 minutes remaining in the 2nd half. San Francisco then cut the lead to 10 with 7 minutes to go. The Dons continued to nibble away, but San Diego held on to win 72-64 and take the championship. The Toreros outshot the Dons 61% to 43%.

For San Diego, PG Terrell White scored 23 points and SG Tavoris Augustine finished with 13 points while reserve Matt Wilfork scored 10. SG Joe Young knocked down 27 points for San Francisco and C Clyde Keys scored 10 and had 8 rebounds.

Champion: San Diego Toreros
2nd Place: San Francisco Dons
3rd Place: Portland Pilots
4th Place: Seattle Redhawks

MWCCCCT? That's a mouthful! lol ... looks like it was a pretty good tournament, and a solid championship game :)

LOL...agree! I guess in local parlance it could be MWC4T. :D

But, yeah, I like using the Tournament Maker to run different types of tourneys.

The Dakotas Shootout matches up the four Division 1 teams in the Dakotas in a two day tournament.

North Dakota Fighting Hawks, Big Sky Conference, Prestige 7, scoring topped by SG Rasheed Monfre’s 16.0 ppg and PG Orlando Stone’s 10.1 ppg

North Dakota State Bison, Summit League, Prestige 7, PG Bobby Zimmerman leads their scoring with 14.7 ppg and with SG Jonathan Wingfield averaging 11.7 ppg and PF Chris Miller averaging 10.1 ppg

South Dakota Coyotes, Summit League, Prestige 7, four players scoring in double figures; C Brody Battier (12.6 ppg); PG Curtis Davis (12.4 ppg); SG Greg Pleick (12.3 ppg); and PF Carl DeClercq (12.0 ppg)

South Dakota State Jackrabbits, Summit League, Prestige 13, led by C Lee Williams (12.9 ppg) and PG Josh Jordan (12.0 ppg)

Dakotas Shootout

Day 1, Game 1: South Dakota State Jackrabbits vs North Dakota Fighting Hawks

South Dakota State scored the first 5 -points of the game. Led by SG Ron King’s 14 point the Jackrabbits then went ahead 26-11 with 9-1/4 minutes left in the first half. North Dakota then matched the Jackrabbits the rest of the half, but still trailed 41-27 at the break. South Dakota State outshot the Fighting Hawks 50% to 28% in the half. SG Ron King finished the half with 14 points for the Jackrabbits and North Dakota was led by SG Rasheed Monfre’s 9 points.

North Dakota nibbled away at the lead early in the 2nd half and got within 8 before South Dakota State regained a double digit lead and held onto it until the final four minutes when the Fighting Hawks made a serious run. With a minute left they trailed by just 4 points, but were unable to get closer. The game ended with South Dakota State winning by a score of 71-67. The difference in the game was the Jackrabbits hitting 11 of 32 3-pointers while the Fighting Hawks hit just 6 of 25.

For South Dakota State, SG Ron King popped in 20 points with PG Josh Jordan and reserve SF Kyle Hordemann both adding 11 points. Jordan also had 6 assists while C Lee Williams topped their rebounding with 7 boards.

North Dakota’s SG Rasheed Monfre scored 16 and C Livan Walton added 14. Monfre was also their top rebounder with 8 rebounds and he blocked 4 shots. PG Orlando Stone had 6 assists but he had a horrible shooting day, hitting just 1 of 9 FG attempts (including missing all of his 8 three point attempts) and just 2 of 6 from the foul line.

Day 1, Game 2: North Dakota State Bison vs South Dakota Coyotes

North Dakota State jumped out to a 12-3 lead after 5 minutes of play. The Bison then held onto a double digit lead throughout the rest of the half. The Bison held a 39-29 halftime lead primarily due to their making just 2 turnovers while the Coyotes turned the ball over 10 times. PG Bobby Zimmerman scored 11 points to lead the Bison offensively. SG Greg Pleick and PG Curtis Davis both scored 7 points for South Dakota.

In the first 7 minutes of the 2nd half, the Bison poured it on to take a 52-32 lead. North Dakota State’s lead grew to as much as 27 points before South Dakota cut into it late in the game. But the game was never in doubt and North Dakota State came away with a 69-54 pasting of the Coyotes.

PG Bobby Zimmerman finished with 17 points and 4 assists for North Dakota State. Reserve big man Dan Evans hit for 15 points, SG Jonathan Wingfield added 11, and C Chris Miller had a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds) as well as making 2 blocks and 2 steals.

South Dakota’s PF Carl DeClercq was the game’s top scorer with 18 points and he also had 5 blocks. PG Curtis Davis scored 12 points. SG Greg Pleick put in 10 points and had 4 assists. C Brody Battier grabbed 10 boards.

Day 2, Game 3: South Dakota Coyotes vs North Dakota Fighting Hawks

The Fighting Hawks gradually crept ahead but could never pull away in the first half. After holding a 7 point lead, their lead shrunk to 34-31 at the break. SF Tony Seitz scored 14 points to lead North Dakota. South Dakota’s SF Nathaniel Blizzard scored 8 points.

Midway through the 2nd half, South Dakota took their first lead of the game at 49-48. The two teams stayed close until late in the game, when North Dakota pulled away to win 69-57. While most teams stats were very similar, the Fighting Hawks hit 41% of their FG’s while the Coyotes only dropped in 34% of theirs.

Top scorer for North Dakota was SF Tony Seitz with 19 points. SG Rasheed Monfre hit for 17 points and also dished out 4 assists.

PF Carl DeClercq had a double-double (15 points and 13 rebounds) for South Dakota. SF Nathaniel Blizzard and PG Curtis Davis both scored 10. SG Greg Pleick had 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

Day 2, Game 4: North Dakota State Bison vs South Dakota State Jackrabbits

Neither team could break away early in the game and there never was more than 3 points separating the teams. Midway through the half the score was tied 20-20. But at that point, North Dakota State began to gradually pull away. With 6-1/2 minutes left in the half the Bison were on top 32-22 as the Jackrabbits shooting went stone cold and North Dakota State was hitting all their shots. South Dakota State fought back and by the end of the half, the Jackrabbits trailed by just a 41-35 score. The Bison hit 61% of their shots while the Jackrabbits hit just 33% of theirs. North Dakota State’s PF Cary Dye led their scoring with 11 points. SF Speedy Field hit for 14 points as the top scorer for South Dakota State.

North Dakota State scored the first 11 points in the 2nd half as the two teams shooting differences continued. Even though the Jackrabbits then began scoring, they trailed by double digits the rest of the way. North Dakota State finished with and easy 84-67 victory to be crowned champions. The Bisons outshot the Jackrabbits 59% to 35% and also controlled the boards 42-25.

PF Cary Dye finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and a steal for North Dakota State while teammates PG Bobby Zimmerman had 12 points, SG Jonathan Wingfield scored 11, and reserve C Parker Hampton finished added 10 points. Hampton and Zimmerman both had 4 assists.

South Dakota State’s SF Speed Field held scoring honors with 19 points. C Lee Williams had 15 points and 5 rebounds. PG Josh Jordan dished out 6 assist
