Long answer: that totally depends what you value in a game.
Since you mentioned FOF, I'd say compared to that game:
DDSPF is more customizable, has a far better UI and aesthetic and has a more immersive in-game display with the 2D.
On the other hand I would say FOF has a better financial model, is a more in-depth simulator of modern day NFL (specifically contracts and financial aspects) and has a deeper statistical engine (although DDSPF also does well enough with records, almanac and statistical output too). I also think FOF is superior in in-game playcalling if that's how you like to play.
All that being said, I think DDSPF is a solid game. It's not perfect by any stretch, but there's definitely a lot of enjoyment to be had.
Short answer? No one else except you can decide if it's worth it. There is a free demo, try that and you should be able to come to your own conclusion.
