Silly Question

Have you ever picked a team you don't know much about just because you like their logo? I know this is kind of silly but I'm thinking of starting an association with Campbell just because of the Gieco "Hump Day"commercial (makes me laugh every time I see it) and their logo is a camel. So it would be Hump Day everyday.
Might wear off after the commercial goes away and I keep losing games as I'm sure it would be a process to make them good.

Oh yeah...and have opted NOT to pick a team because they have a crappy logo or nickname.

No. I guess I'm not that visual. The logos don;t mean much to me. And given that I hate advertising so much that I killed my TV in 1997...

I haven't thought of that but I have not chosen a team because of an logo or team name. Guess I've done it the other way and not realized it in my mind until you pointed it out.

Do it! Get over the hump with the Fighting Camels!

I also have both chosen and not chosen to play as certain teams because of their logos or mascots.

Many years ago I saw this logo, thought it was awesome, and played an association as the South Dakota Coyotes in an old version of DDS:CB:

While I love Tulane's nickname of the Green Wave, I can't stand their "Angry Wave" logo for some unknown irrational reason. I don't know if I'll ever play as them as long as the Angry Wave is their primary logo. I could always manually input the T wave logo into the game.

Magic Bird; I have that logo for a throw back logo mod I am working on. I collected a lot of old team logo's. Right now I have two logo mod's I'm working on the throw back and a flat logo set. I plan to just do separate installers for each logo pack and you can change them whenever you want, even for a current association you may be playing. So if you get tired of one you can choose another. If you install it and don't like it you'll have the D19FCM original square button type, throw back or flat to choose. May be a week before release at this point for the first one.

You may have to dust off that old South Dakota team again. :)

Kinda the opposite. I will never play as Seattle due to their boring, completely uninspired logo.

I have a few different ways I will choose a team, but I can say that there have been times where I will change my choice because I don't want to look at their logo. Logos that will automatically make me change my team choice are UAB, Alcorn, Chattanooga, FAMU, and Temple. I will never coach at any of those schools because I can't stand their logos, granted almost all of them have an alternate or secondary logo that I would be ok with, hmm logo pack idea? lol.

Sorry to change the topic slightly but this gotten wondering how people choose their teams. I usually go one of 3 routes.

1. Start as a 3rd assistant at a school in a power 5 conference. That's not in the top 25. I then use random.org and determine my coaches starting age (25-35). I do second calculation to determine how many years I HAVE to stay an assistant coach. This is weighted by my age, so the younger I am the longer I have to wait. For example, if I start at 25 and then get 7 as my years as an assistant then I won't allow myself to become a coach until 32. I can hold any assistant role during that time but can't apply for a job as HC until after my 7th year. Now, this gets a little tricky because I reduce the wait time by 1 year if I am an assistant on a team that makes the elite 8 or final four and if we win a national title then I remove the restriction altogether. The elite 8 has happened once and the national title once in all of the careers I have run. Then when I can apply for my first HC job I set a Prestige limit on myself. the highest prestige school I can coach at for my first job is determined by a goofy formula I made up. It's as follows ((Conf Prestige/3) + (School Presitge/3) + # of Wins) / 2, so for example say my Conf Prestige is 75, School is 60, and we won 12 games. It would be ((75/3)+(60/3)+12) /2 or (25 + 20 + 12) / 2, putting me at a school between 0 and 29 (rounding up). I take all schools who are in that range hiring a HC, put them a list randomizer and then randomize the list. I will randomize it based on the number of loses I had on the year, so if we lost 15 games I would hit randomize 15 times and the team on top is who I go to.

2. As you can see the above is a lot of work, the next way I will do it is that I will pick a school who had a rich tradition prior to 1990 but have become run of the mill for whatever reason San Francisco, Seattle, Holy Cross, Bradley, LaSalle, Jacksonville have all been fun.

3. The final way is still random. I first randomize the conferences, then all the teams in the conference to get my team.

In all of the above, I try to avoid ever coaching at one of the NCAA elite programs (UK, UCLA, Duke, NC, Kansas, Louisville as well as Arizona, Syracuse, UConn along with a few others I can't think of right now) are all off limits unless my coach has a pedigree I think would allow him to be there in real life.

I feel like the above helps keep things fresh and interesting for me, I roleplay out the situations in my head (maybe should try my hand at a diary again) and randomizing things like I do helps me build that story.

If you are the third assistant, what are you actually doing in DDSCB? By that I mean, what choices are you making that impact the game? Or are you simply simming until a job comes up?

Which would be fine. I'm thinking of simming 20 years and seeing what happens, then diving in.
