Hereafter

2/20: Early lead. Up 12 after 10. Up 10 at the break. Their SG scored 26 last time. He got 3 in the first half. Big run! Up 26 with 10 to go.

78-51. Their SG had 8, nobody on their team had more than 9.

Sub C/F Uwe Haus had 22 and 4. 6 guys had between 7 and 11. +17 RBs! 12 TOs. We held them to 34%, 3-15 on threes. +18 in the paint, +8 on 2nd chances.

At 16-10, 9-6, 3rd place Indiana ST. We won by only 8 at our place, but our starting guards were both still out.

2/21: It will be a jury trial. We're working on who is exempt from the jury pool. Obviously, all of security is. The Council. People who had a close relationship with Will or with the victims...

2/23: They take a quick lead, we come back. Up 1 after 10. Haus is a really good backup big guy but he fouls too much. Rookie. Up 2 at the half. Run to start the 2nd half. Up only 1 with 10 left. OT!

68-72 in our first OT game of the season. Poor shooting, 39.4%, 2-14 on threes, and only 10-16 from the line, including a miss in the last minute of regulation. They were 21-24 from the line.

15, 13, 3 for Wall, 12, 11 for Star, 14, 9 for Mack, 12, 4, 4 for Brad.

+11 RBs but 19 TOs to their 13, which is not acceptable; my boy Gaut Wall had 7 TOs!

I'm not happy with this loss, but then am I ever happy with a loss?

Up 2 with 2 games to play. At 12-15, 8-8 Valparaiso next. Mediocre team but they win at home. We won by 14 at our place. We won it in the paint. We need to control the inside again this time.

2/27: Slow start for both teams. Down 4 after 10. 10 fouls called on us, 3 on them. I'm chirping. Up 3 at the half. Up 10 with 10 left.

67-64. They caught us with a minute left, then we scored 5, they hit a three, we hit the front of a 1 and 1, they threw up a 3/4 court prayer that was not answered. We didn't play all that well. Fortunately, neither did they.

17, 7, 3 for Wall, 16, 5 for Brad. Stats were close in all areas.

This clinched the regular season MVC title for us. One left to play.

We end the regular season at home with 14-14, 12-5 Evansville. They're in 2nd place, 2 games back. They won by 3 there. Their bench was HUGE and we need to not let that happen again. We also need to contain their starting PG and C.

Will's attorney says Will wants me on the jury. That presents a problem. I can certainly be put in the jury pool but if I'm in, the entire Council is in. The Defendant doesn't get to pick his own jury.

2/28: An explosion. Smaller than the first one but a lot more damaging. It was in the largest grain storage compartment and it reduced our supply of available grains considerably. The investigation has started.

Rumor has it that Will has been smiling and making cryptic remarks about the explosion and he is being interrogated.

3/1: It didn't take much interrogation before Will admitted that he had rigged a "dead man switch." The way that works is if the person setting it up does nothing, the bomb will explode.

Now they're interrogating him to find out if there will be any more surprises.

The food service people are scrambling to change the menus in order to keep enough grains in people's diets to keep them healthy. Grains are our main food source since all "meat" is made from grains and/or beans. The menus will have far fewer choices for the next several months until we can grow enough grains to get the supply up to the usual level.

Hopefully people will be understanding. We're all used to lots of choices and to being able to get any food we want nearly whenever we want it. That's not going to happen until at least June, maybe July.

3/2: It's close early. Down 1 after 10. Down 2 at the half. We've played better; getting beat inside. Down 4 with 10 to go. Mini-run gives us the lead but it's close. OT! We blew a late lead in regulation.

80-83 on a late three. We blew a late lead in OT and they scored the last 6 points. NOT happy! We took 13 more shots and hit 6 fewer! 3-17 on threes.

Lousy shooting, worse D- they shot 54.2%. We had 12 fewer TOs and STILL couldn't win. Yes, I'm biting my own forehead over this one. Wall shot 1-10,

Brad was 2-11, Mack was 4-13. Our bench did great but our starters really let us down. Their starting C had 26, 6, 4. One of our goals was to contain him and we failed miserably.

Not the way I wanted to end the regular season. We'll still be the #1 MVC seed, though.

3/5: We end the regular season 26-5, 14-4, ranked #12, NET #22. Interestingly, 2 of our 5 losses have been at home.

+8.8 PPG, +4.7 RBs, -5.8 TOs; we ended with 12.2, which is higher than I want it.

Gaut Wall leads us in scoring with 13.4. Our scoring is pretty balanced. Star leads in RBs with 7.4, and Mill leads in assists with 3.8; Brad gets 3.7.

Will wants a speedy trial. He's going to get it, but not as quickly as he'd like. The Prosecutor is going through all of his work and home computer records, and security is going through every work computer on the ship. With his skills Will could have planted all kinds of things and the trial won't start until a very thorough check has been completed. It will be at least a month and probably longer.

3/6: We play #9 seed Illinois ST, 11-19, 5-13, in the quarter finals. Beta them by 9 at our place and then 12 at theirs. They turn it over a lot and score the fewest points in conference. If we play well we'll be fine. If we wake up and play we'll be fine.

People are complaining about food a lot more than I had expected. We're a pretty disciplined bunch and no one came on this voyage with any illusions. We expected hardships and dangers. But food is essential and that old saying, "An army travels on its stomach" applies to a spaceship crew as well. Morale is low.

At our recent Council meeting we talked mostly about the trial. The Captain will serve as judge. We talked about a reasonable time frame to begin the trial with the prosecutor insisting that it can't begin until the investigation is complete, including all of the computer checks, and the defense attorney saying that Will demands a speedy trial.

We also talked about the food situation and someone suggested that we have one day a week where we offer the kind of choices we had before the grain crisis. There was a lot of debate about that. First, it would delay the return to normal by close to 15%, and second it would stretch our supplies. In the end the food staff representative said that it would be worth it and that it could be done. The Council voted to have "Special Sundays." As soon as word got out there was a noticeable increase in good humor throughout the ship. It's the little things in life!

3/7: We take an early lead. Tied after 10. We go on big a run. Up 20 at the half. Up 8 with 10 to go but we've lost our focus. We finished well.

95-72. Uwe Haus had 19 and 6. 14, 2, 10 for Mill. Excellent bench play, 50, 13, 9 to 21, 9, 2.

10 TOs to 22. We took 26 more shots. Easy win.

It's #5 seed Northern Iowa, 17-13, 9-9, in the semifinals. We won by 9 there, then 21 at home. We need to guard their SG well and play our game.

3/8: We score the first 7. Up 9 after 10. Star is on fire. Up 17 at the break. We're doing it in the paint. Up 24 with 10 to play.

84-57. A walk in the park. 15, 13, 3 for Star. 14, 3, 7 for Brad, 14, 3 for Haus. +6 RBs. 15 TOs but they had 25.

As expected it's 17-14, 13-5 Evansville for the title. This is a tough matchup for us. They beat us twice, both times 83-80, the 2nd in OT. We feel like we're better but obviously, we haven't shown it. We have given up too many threes against them and we haven't controlled the inside. Their C has really hurt us.

We know what we need to do, the question is whether we can do it!

3/9: We score the first 8. Up 16 after 10. Wow! Up 22 at the half. We're crushing them! Up 19 with 10 to play.

100-71! I want to play in the NCAAs the way we played in this tournament, especially the way we played tonight!

23, 3, 5 for tourney MOP Marc Brad. 17, 8 for Star, 16, 4, 5 for Haus, 10, 3, 7 for Mill.

6 TOs to 17, +6 RBs. We took 17 more shots and made 8, and were 22-27 from the line to 11-19.

3/12: Ranked #10, NET #17. We're hoping for a #3 or #4 seed, hopefully on the right side of the bracket.

#4 Midwest, so the left side of the bracket. Our goal this season was to get to the Sweet Sixteen. If we do we'll face the #1 overall seed.

We play #13 seed Alabama A & M, 22-10 first. They have a really decent outside game but they haven't played anybody. Their strength is outside and they can play D. Still, if we play our game we should be okay.

3/14: Security found a potential disaster hidden in the main kitchen computer. Will, well we assume it was Will, had a program that was connect to a series of pipe bombs that he had hidden in various places around the kitchen, the serving area, and the cafeteria in general. The bombs were to be triggered by vibrations which the computer was programmed to begin tomorrow at a little after noon. It was another dead man switch so if we hadn't found it, it would have gone off, at about 12:20, the time when the cafeteria is typically at its most crowded. LOTS of people would have been killed and probably even more would have been injured.

There's no point in interrogating him about this since he won't tell us anything. We just need to find any other devices he may have set up. We're back to security on 12 hours shifts with backup security staff called up on active duty. So essentially the entire ship is on 12 hour days, 6 day weeks. Time is NOT on our side.
