5/1: Preseason #1, recruit class #3.

5/22: We lose a guard who would never have played.. We’re looking for 1 and 1.

5/26: We offer to a guard.

So what do Von and I do in the evenings after the kids are in bed? During the season we watch a lot of basketball. Sometimes Kip joins us. Von is very analytical and sometimes sees things I’ve missed; same for Kip. Other times we watch old movies. We play cribbage sometimes. We just love to hang out together and sometimes just talk about our day or the kids, or things like that. Sometimes we sit
together and each read our own book.

5/29: 0-1. We offer to the same guard.

Sean turned 7 this week. Emma is 8 and Laura is 3.

6/2: No. We offer to a different guard.

6/5: No. We offer to the same guard.

6/9: No. We’re done.

6/25: Going to Indy and all the regional camps.

6/26: 1st day of recruiting. We need 2 and 2.

I don’t usually go after the very top players but this year the #2 recruit, PG Shon Hans, looks like an incredible player and I’m going after him.

7/17: We offer to 4.

8/7: 5 on the Norton list: Dave Pabe is #4, Brid #8, , Hal Hold #12, , F Mike Clay #20, and C Andy Monn #24.

9/11: We get a PF, lose a C and a guard. We’re still in the hunt for Hans.

9/18: We get Hans, lose 2. Getting Hans is HUGE!!!

9/25: We get the other 2.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We could repeat, we’re very good, and we’re deep up front.

11/11: Here’s the lineup, pretty close to the same as last season:

Junior Bert Thai at the Point. He did great last season.

Senior Dave Pabe at SG. Probably our best player.

#3 guard is frosh Luke Fred. He’s looked very good so far. Junior Dan Ramm isn’t ready and probably never will be. An injury to a guard would hurt us.

Soph Hal Hold is back at SF.

Frosh Mike Clay is our only different starter. He’s at PF and looks really good.

Senior Norm Brid is back in the middle. A genuine all star.

1st big off the bench is frosh Andy Monn, who would start for most schools. Junior Max Jack doesn’t hurt us when he’s in the game. Frosh Al Thom definitely shows promise. Frosh Nat Sith isn’t ready but he’ll be a good one.

“Dan Fran here with Coach Jess Wynn. Coach, you guys are just destroying everybody you play. Can you have an undefeated season?”

“Well, nobody’s done that since 1976-’77 Indiana so it’s probably unlikely.”

“Can you win the national title?”

“We can, but will we? I say the same thing every time I’m asked that question, you need to be hot for 6 games and somewhere along the line you need a little break.”

Haven’t said much about the kids. Emma just turned 9. She’s a very serious student and has said she wants to be a doctor since she was very small. Sean is 7 and is very into performing. At only 4 years old it’s hard to say what Laura will be drawn to but she is very physical, kicks a soccer ball around, plays with an undersized basketball…
