Hereafter

3/10: We play #2 seed, #16 ranked Michigan ST, 23-8, 15-5, in the semifinals. We each won at home. They are a big favorite. Their SG is a potential All American. Again tonight, we feel that if we play well we can win.

Game time: They take the lead quickly but we come back. Down 3 after 10. 27-25 after a very slow paced first half. We're shooting 25.8% to 36%. Down 3 with 10 to go.

57-62. It was tied with 1:33 left. We were never able to make shots, 30.5%. +8 from the line. 15, 8 for Laky, 10, 10 for Anda.

No trace of any remains of living beings on the planet. Still haven't found anything we recognize as a library or a computer. No books. No works of art- or at least nothing we recognize as a work of art.

3/12: #5 South. We play #12 San Francisco, 20-11. This is a team we should beat. They're an outside focused team.

3/17: We take the lead right away. Up only 3 after 10. 38-31 at the half. We let up after leading by 16. I'm raising the roof at halftime. Up 20 with 10 to play.

89-58. Terrific 2nd half! 22, 10, 4 blocks for Laky. 17, 11 for Wilk, 14, 7, 7 for Johs. +17 RBs, +16 in the paint, 10 TOs.

How did these people communicate? There is no evidence yet of video, books, computers... We don't have many places left to look...

3/18: #4 seed, #14 ranked Michigan ST, 26-8, in the 2nd round. We lost to them twice, beat them once, all close games. They're heavily favored but I really think it comes down to who plays better.

3/19: We take the lead right away. Up 8 after 10. 47-30 at the half. We're playing really well! 11, 7 for Laky. We get the lead to 20. Up 19 with 10 to go.

83-69 and we're in the Sweet Sixteen! 20, 9, 3 for Laky, 18, 3, 5 for Sill, 12, 7 for Anda.

This win makes our season!

“Jed Clark. These people were telepaths. It is the only explanation.”

“That actually makes a great deal of sense.”

“As telepaths we need no libraries, no computers. We store all of the knowledge of our species in our brain. While it is true that we use video, it may be that they never developed it. It is possible that they are not sighted beings.”

“A blind species? Seems unlikely.”

“In your exploration of the planet have you seen anything that would require sight? If you think so, can you think of an alternate explanation for it that would not require sight?”

Damn! The Krai are right. It may be that this was a species that was blind.

“Let us bring our settlers down to the planet. We may discover things that you have not taken notice of. What you call our 'hive mind,' our collective intelligence, may be similar to that of this species. That may allow us to sense things you have missed.”

It made a lot of sense.

3/20: The Council voted 9-3 to allow the Krai settlers to go down to the planet. They will work with us to discover more about the planet and its people.

3/23: #1 seed, #4 ranked, #4 NET North Carolina, 31-6. They are an overwhelming favorite, and with good reason. We're going to need to play an outstanding game and hope that they're off.

3/24: Back and forth early. Down 3 after 10. 32-38 at halftime. We're -13 in the paint, and that's the difference. Uh oh. They go on an early run. Down 27 with 10 to play after they go on a huge run.

66-91. They were simply too good for us. Last game for starters Sill, Johs, Anda, and Wilk. Only Laky is back, along with excellent sub guard Moe Fine.

3/27: After a few days on the planet the Krai are convinced the species that lived here were telepathic.

“Everything about the way things are structured tells us they were telepaths.”

“What killed them?”

“There is no sign of that.”

“If they had kept records we could likely figure it out.”

“There is no need for a race such as ours or their to keep records. All information is stored in our brain.”

4/3: We lost to the national champs. North Carolina won it all.

4/4: Awards: Shut out.

4/9: TP goes from 73 to 75.

Staying here.

4/23: We ask for money.

No.

After a very long time exploring we decide this is a mystery we can't solve. We leave the Krai to colonize and head out of the solar system. The remainder of the Krai who stay on board work to get their numbers up to normal.

26-10. Sweet Sixteen. After 37 seasons, 1183-231, .837. Our 20th win next season will break the all time record for wins.

5/1: Preseason #20, recruit class #1.

We lose a guard. He wouldn't have played much. We want a big man.

Round 1: No offers.

Round 2: We offer to a PF who's a B. No.

Round 3: We offer to a PF who is a C. Got him. He may start.

5/15: Life aboard the ship is going smoothly.

6/25: Going to Indy and all the regional camps.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We need 2 guards and 2 bigs.

Rec Director Mina Karham has come up with another dining hall contest. Most creative, most delicious salad. Categories for salads as side dishes and salads
as main course. Runs through July.

8/2: The results are in. NOT surprisingly, “Green Machine,” a dining hall that has always specialized in salads of all kinds, has won the contest. “Vegan
Heaven” was 2nd, and “American Pie” third. People got excited about this one and it was fun for everyone.

8/7: No one on the Norton list. I thought there was a chance Moe Fine might make it.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, 2 PFs. They are all iffy.

Mina Karham has decided that it's time to resume all of the dining hall contests, one a month. September will be best overall dining hall.

9/2: “American Pie” was voted best dining hall. People do love home cooking and comfort food. “Taste of Shanghai” was 2nd, and another comfort food place, “Pasta and More” was 3rd. Every dining hall got some votes, which is a great sign!

Next month's contest will be best entree.

9/18: We lose the #1 overall recruit. We get a PF, #13, and a PG, #55. We offer to an SF.

Going to the Sunshine Shootout vs. Wash. ST. Reasonably challenging schedule.

9/25: We get a PG, #32. We need to go after a big man.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We should be competitive but probably not with the very best teams.

Best entree winner: “Taste of Shanghai.” 2nd was “American Pie,” and surprisingly, third was “Delhi Delicious.”

Next month is soups and stews.

10/9: We lose the recruit.

We're going after a good one, but he may not hit our SAT score.

11/2: “Bowls of Goodness” won the soups and stews competition. Not surprising, that's what they do!

Next up is desserts.

11/12: Here's the lineup:

Senior Al Whit is at the Point.

Soph Moe Fine, who may be our best player, is at SG.

#3 guard is Nick Duon, a senior who hasn;t played much, but he's looked good in practice. Next is frosh Mal Call, who is a work in progress. Finally, frosh Jul Bank, who needs to learn to play D.

Frosh Ron Bray is at SF. His D isn't great but he's a shooter and a rebounder.

Senior Art Laky moves from C to PF this year.

Soph Mike Brin is in the middle.

#1 big man off the bench is senior Roy Dani, yet another player whose D could be better. #2 is soph Dal Matt, another poor defender. Soph Lan Robi is decent but not great at most things.

This team needs to play better D than they've shown in practice, especially inside.

11/24: We open with a 68-47 win over Wichita ST here. Great D! 14, 5, 5, 5 for Moe Fine, 12, 8 for C Mike Brin, 16, 3 for sub guard Nick Duon. We were strong inside.

81-75 at #23 Clemson in a game that was close all the way. We rallied late. 26, 3, 4, 5 for Fine, 11, 11 for Brin, 12, 7, 4, 3 blocks for Laky.

Ron Bray got a fairly serious concussion and will miss at least 2 games.

Back home and an 85-59 win over #25 Marquette. 26 for Laky, 20, 1, 5 for Duon. Fine was saddled with foul trouble all night. +15 RBs.

Hali and I finally got around to celebrating the 20th anniversary of our first meeting. It has been a great relationship.

12/2: "American Pie" won the dessert contest followed by "Just Desserts."

12/7: Great home win against #12 Duke, 78-51. 22, 7 for Roy Dani, filling in at C. 14, 8, 6, 4 for Fine, 12, 1, 4 for Duon. +20 in the paint, 8 TOs. Bray is back.

58-47 over UCLA here. Great D again. I was concerned about our D at the beginning of the season but so far it has been very good. 20, 9 for Laky, 12, 4, 3, 5 for Bray. +18 down low, 10 TOs.

An easy 86-55 home win over Syracuse. 6 players had 11 or more. +18 inside.

“We do not understand these food contests, Jed Clark. Do you not all taste the food the same way?”

“We do not. Unlike the Krai, we are individuals. We all perceive things differently from the way others perceived them.”

“That seems inefficient. When the Krai feed we feed as one.”

12/8: Off to the Sunshine Shootout. We're the #2 seed and we face #7 Washington ST, 4-2. Their starting PF is out with a broken foot. The odds makers have this as a toss up but we think we're better.

We're now ranked #13.

12/9: Early lead. Up 13 after 10. 48-29 at the half. 12 for Laky, 9 for Dani. Fine has 3 fouls; fouls have been a recurring issue for him. Up 21 with 10 to go.

101-81. They got it to 5 in the 2nd and then we took off. 22, 6 for Laky, 16, 7 for Bray, 16, 4 for sub F/C Dani. We were solid inside.

Moe Fine hurt his foot. He will miss the rest of the tournament.
