2/21: Big 71-64 win at #8 Wisconsin to tie Coach K at 1202 wins. 21, 8 for Laky, 19, 3, 1, 3 for Fine, 13, 2, 9 for Whit.
We miss our first chance to own the wins record losing 68-79 at #19 Illinois. We blew a 14 point lead going stone cold in the second half and giving up 50 points. Total collapse. The only guy who had more than 9 was sub Nick Duon with 18. The refs didn't want us to win this one. They went to the line 37 times to our 18.
74-59 at Indiana and I stand alone in wins! Up 5 at the half and we took over in the 2nd. 17, 4, 3, 5 for Fine, 12, 11 for Brin, 16, 4, 3 for Bray.
85-75 over #1 Michigan here, in front of a crowd that came to celebrate my setting a new record for wins. 27, 3, 1, 4 for Fine, 16, 7, 3 for Brin, 12, 4, 5, 5 for Whit. 10 TOs.
21-5, 12-4, tied for 2nd, 2 back of 1st place with 4 to play. #10, NET #4.
We send a sensor to the bright lights. It can't tell us much. We then send a probe to penetrate its surface. Analysis shows a chemical composition unlike anything we've ever seen. Totally foreign elements make up whatever this is.
It seems benign, no reaction to our approach or to the penetration of its surface. This may wind up being yet another one of those things we never figure out. Space is full of mysteries.
“Jed Clark, let the Krai attempt to make contact with the object.”
“There is no sign of life.”
“Life takes many forms, known and unknown.”
“Do you need to get closer?”
“Send a representative of the Krai to the surface of the object via another probe.”
2/22: We sent the Krai representative.
“Jed Clark, we sense mental stirrings but they are too faint for us to make a connection. Permission to penetrate beneath the surface.”
We gave permission.
2/23: “Jed Clark, this is a life form travelling through the galaxy. The intelligence is very primitive. It senses its surroundings but the mental activity remains too faint for us to make contact or to analyze what it senses.”
We decide that's enough exploration and pull the Krai back. Let this thing go on its way and we'll go on ours.
