Hereafter

3/5: Joe Moss is #2 on the Norton list.

We lose Moss, as expected, but we also lose starting SF Ben Wite, and guard Gil Davi, who had potential. We offer to a guard and are pursuing a couple of other recruits.

3/8: We play #9 seed Michigan, 15-16, 8-12, in the quarter finals.

3/9: We jump out to an early lead and stretch it. Up 16 at the half. They never get it closer than 7 in the 2nd.

75-64. 20, 10, 6, 7 for Moss, 14, 11 for Casp. Only 11 TOs and solid inside play.

We estimate that we will be here on the Beor's moon for about another week. We've given them all the help they should need re crop raising and food prep, and we've left instructional videos. We've also done all that we need to do to allow them to create new holo programs, adapt some of ours, and simply copy others. Our work here is nearly done.

3/10: #5 seed, #11 ranked Purdue, 25-8, 13-7, in the semis. We won by 19 at home. We are a big favorite. We have a big edge inside. They have a very good outside game.

Game time: Back and forth and then we go on a run. 38-27 at halftime. Casp has 3 fouls. +12 RBs. Up 23 with 10 left to play.

82-53. An easy win. 19, 12, 3, 3 for Moss, 17, 12, 3, 3 blocks for Ansa, 15, 5 for Casp. Huge edge inside. 11 TOs.

3/11: #7 seed Iowa, 20-15, 8-12, upset both the #2 and #3 seeds to make it to the finals. We won by 11 there, only 5 here, so we're taking them seriously. They turn it over and we are much better inside, but they're hot right now.

Game time: They take the lead early on. Down 8 after 10. 31-37 at the half. We're shooting 32.4%. My old team is making us look bad so far.

Playing catch up and not getting there. Down 4 with 10 to go. They go on a run and we're in big trouble.

68-86. They really beat us up. -18 at the line; the refs didn't beat us but they definitely didn't help; they were +18 at the line. They outshot us and out rebounded us.

3/12: We'll be a #1, but probably not #1 overall.

#1 West. We play #16 Charlotte, 17-18. If the brackets hold we would play Kansas for the title. Long way to go!

3/16: We say goodbye to the Beor and leave orbit.

3/17: Down 1 after 10. We're very flat. Run puts us up 35-22 at the half. Very good D. 13, 5 for Ansa. No TOs! We're putting this one away early. Up 2 with 10 left.

79-55. 15, 11 for Ansa, 16, 5, 6, 5 for Moss. Only 4 TOs.

3/18: We play #9 seed Harvard, 22-9, in the 2nd round. If we play our game they're in trouble.

3/19: Big early lead. Up 19 after 10. 50-22 at the half. This is no contest. The subs will get lots of minutes. 16 for Ansa, 11 for Moss. 3 TOs. Up 28 with 10 left.

86-67 but it wasn't that close. 26, 5 for Ansa, 21, 7, 4 for Moss, 14, 13, 7 for Casp. 8 TOs.

This was almost certainly our last easy game.

Amazingly, the probe directly ahead of us has sighted another solar system. Too soon to know anything about it.

3/21: #5 seed, #21 ranked Mississippi ST, 25-9, in the Sweet 16. We're a very clear favorite. Their strength is outside. They don't play great D.

3/24: Back and forth early. Up 5 after 10. All the calls are going against us. I am close to getting a T. 39-38 at the half. Moss has 3 fouls in 6 minutes and no points. 15, 8 for Ansa is keeping us in it, as well as 14 for sub guard Neil Cass. 15 fouls to 6 and -11 at the line. Up 2 with 10 to go. We go on a run!

85-69. I got a late T just for the hell of it. The refs were awful. -11 from the line. 21, 13 for Ansa, 21 for Cass, 13, 12, 4 blocks for Casp.

+22 RBs, +12 in the paint.

No word yet on the solar system but the probe is almost close enough to get data for us.

3/25: #7 seed Washington ST, 25-11, in the Elite 8. They beat #10, #2, #3 seeds to get here, so they're hot. Their forwards are their best players. We should own the paint and if we do we'll be fine.

3/26: Close early. Up 8 after 10. 38-35. They're playing with more energy than we are. Ansa has 12 but he has 3 fouls as does their C. Bench is +8. This one is far from over. We start the 2nd with a run. They come back. Up 7 with 10 left. We get it to double digits!

82-71 but it wasn't easy. 18, 5, 4, 5 for Moss, 19, 6 for Ansa, who has been our most consistent player in the post season. +26 in the paint, 11 fewer TOs.

We're in the Final Four!

3/31: We play #1 seed, #3 ranked, #2 NET Alabama, 33-5, in the national semifinal. They are favored. They are 8-2 vs. ranked teams, and won the last 7 of those. They do everything well. We might have a slight edge on the boards. This is going to be tough!

4/1: We take a lead. Up 12 after 10. 43-37. We led by as many as 15 but they got back into it; they're good! 15, 9 for Casp, 10 for Moss. +6 from the line, amazingly enough! Tied with 10 to play. Tied with 5 left.

72-75. They hit a 30 footer at the buzzer. We had every opportunity to win this game. We let them back in twice after taking sizable leads.
In a piece of really bad luck both starter Rod Ansa and 6th man F/C Josh Brad were hurt in about the middle of the 2nd half and couldn't play after that.

22, 19 for Casp, 19, 5, 3 for Moss. They hit 10 threes to our 4. +15 in the paint. The injuries were definitely a factor, but that's part of the game.

4/3: Alabama shocked Kansas to win it all. They won by 28! Unbelievable!

4/4: Awards: Joe Moss is national Frosh OY and first team All American. In the Big 10, Moss sweeps- POY, Frosh OY, Def. POY, 1st team, along with Jev Casp. Rod Ansa makes the 2nd team. I get COY.

4/9: I'm not going anywhere. TP goes from 95 to 98.

The probe is showing 1 planet with 2 moons in the Goldilocks zone. Looks like a tropical climate on the planet and not much info on the moons.

4/23: I ask for $.

We get $30,000!

34-6, national semifinal. We wanted the title but they're not easy to get! For 39 seasons I'm 1246-246, .835.

Let's go for that title next season!

5/1: Preseason #2. Recruit class #23. 2 open roster spots. Only 3 guards and this is BEFORE transfers! We're in great shape inside if no one transfers out.

The probe is showing a VERY hot planet but livable by most species. There is no sign of technology or a sophisticated civilization.

5/21: We are in orbit around the planet and sending down robotic explorers.

5/23: Dinosaurs! The planet has dinosaurs! The robots are sending up video and photos. This is amazing.

5/29: We lose 2. One would not have played but Josh Brad would have, and might have started. 4 slots to fill.

Round 1: We offer to 2 Bs. 0-2.

Round 2: 3 Bs and a C. We get 2 Bs and a C. The B who is a Center will start as will the SG, also a B.

Round 3: We need a guard. We offer to a C guard. Got him. He will play, could start.

5/31: We are fascinated by the life on this planet. Never have so many people spent so much time looking at video from the surface of a planet. We can't send humans down there, obviously, as it is too dangerous, but our people are absolutely enthralled.

We're not seeing mammals. They may be there, almost certainly are, but very likely they are quite small and spend their time hiding from the dinos.

5/15: We're still here, still observing. The robots are getting great information about how these dinos live. The videos of battles between giants are getting very much attention on board.

6/25: We go to Indy and all of the regional camps.

6/26: 3 scholarships. We need big men.

Joe Moss goes #6 in the draft, Gil Davi #15.

Much as we could watch video from this planet forever we are ready to depart. But the videos are in the computers and no doubt will be watched for a long time.

7/2: Study groups are forming. They meet to look at videos of the dinosaurs and to compare and classify them, comparing them to what we know about Earth dinos, and classifying them in all sorts of ways. There are a couple of hundred people involved in this. Also, artists are painting and sculpting them, poets and writers are writing about them...

8/7: Lots of people on the Norton list: C Jev Casp #5, PF Max Hark is #15, SG Don Gare #18, PG Kev Oslo #19, C Curt Sona #28, and C Rod Ansa #34. The problem will be getting minutes for all of them.

8/21: We offer to 2 Cs and a PF. We're in the top 3 for all of them.

“Dino Mania” is the term that has been coined to describe what is happening on the ship. Hundreds of us are consumed by a fascination with dinos.

I never mentioned it but we did leave a contingent of Krai on the dino planet.

“Jed Clark, the advantage for your people is that the Krai can report back to us on new developments on the planet.”

“Too bad they can't send video.”
