Hereafter

2/15: We fall behind early. Down 7 after 10. Down 1 at the half. We're in it. Uh oh! They go on a run. Down 19 with 10 left.

71-85. Our D fell apart in the 2nd half and we scored way fewer than usual; 14 below our average, while giving up 14 more than our average.

20, 8 for Blen, 13, 5 for Hart, good bench play, but that was it for the upside. -11 RBs, worst of the season. We shot 35.7% and they shot 56.1%.

2 losses in a row. Not good!

9-15, 5-8 Arizona is here. We won by 22 there. With Akpo out it's a toss up according to the odds makers. We need to slow down their very good PG and match their very good bench. We need to control the inside play.

Loving the soy beans! No issues. Exhaustive testing is showing no signs of any disease.

2/18: We REALLY need a win. Refs are killing us early but we're leading. Up 9 after 10. Big run! Up 24 at the half. Up 34 with 10 left. Maxx is on fire.

99-68. Didn't expect this big a win. 25, 1, 3 for Maxx, 19, 5, 4, 3 steals for Hart. 13, 12 for Sam Milt from the bench. +16 RBs, 10 TOs. And we did control the paint.

3 of our last 4 are away; not good. The next one is the toughest, at 3rd place Utah, 17-8, 9-5. We won by only 6 at our place. We played a terrific 1st half then faded in the 2nd, and we shot only 34%. With Akpo we're the better team. Without him, we could be in trouble. I'm starting Milt for Blen.

Yes, it's a gamble.

We fell only one spot in the rankings; now #7.

2/22: Early lead but it's close. Down 3 after 10. Uh oh! They go on a mini-run. Down 1 at the half. Down 13 with 10 left.

77-97. Truly horrible D. Having one guy out doesn't account for that.

22, 5 for Maxx. 14, 7 for Akpo (#13 on the depth chart, no minutes assigned to him.). Their C had 40! (It's not easy to double while playing at max speed. The double keeps going away. p.i.t.a.)

They shot 65.3%. That's disgusting. They went to the line 18 times more than we did. We just didn't show up in the 2nd half.

The only good news is that Akpo is back.

2 games back of 1st, 2 up on 3rd, with 3 to play.

Last place USC, 6-20, 3-12, there. We won by 29 at home. This is a game we should win, and we'd better win it!

The probe indicates that again, there's nothing dangerous about this planet. We're still a couple of weeks from getting a good enough look at the surface to see if anything interesting is there.

2/25: Early lead. Up 14 after 10. Hart and Akpo are hitting shots. So is Smid. Up 19 at the half. Up 27 with 10 left.

94-63. There was never a doubt. 23, 12 for Hart, 16, 12 for Akpo, 16, 0, 3 for Smid.

+13 RBs, 7 TOs. We scored 9 more from the field, 12 more from the line. Their PF had a great night but we controlled the paint.

AZ ST was upset. We're one back of them and they're next, here! They're #4, 27-2, 14-2. We won by 12 at their place and led all the way. Akpo and Maxx did a lot of the scoring. We turned them over a lot. But their C was a force. We may consider doubling him this time; we'll see how the game goes. They play very good D, but we beat it last time. We need to do that again. Basically, it's our excellent O vs. their excellent D, and we need to control the boards.

3/1: It's a battle early, unlike last time. Down 3 after 10. Our D is not getting it done. Down 9 at the half and I'm not happy. Down 5 with 10 to go.

73-76. Damn! It was back and forth for the last 4 minutes but we couldn't close it out.

We chose not to double their C. He was hurting us, but their guards were hurting us as much or more. Those 3 guys scored 45 of their 76 points. They
shot 52.6% which means our D didn't do their job. We shot 40.9% and scored a dozen below our average.

17 for Maxx, 15 for Smid and Sims, 13 for Akpo. +5 RBs, 2 fewer TOs, but they won the battle inside, 12 more in the paint for them.

So we'll finish 2nd in the conf. We're 2 up on 3rd place Utah.

We finish at 17-11, 9-8 Washington ST. We won by only 7 at our place. We didn't play great D but controlled the inside, and had only 7 TOs. They're 0-4 vs. ranked teams but all of those games were away. We're much better offensively and not quite as good on D. We need to control the bench and we need help from our bench.

3/4: Early lead. They come back. Up 7 after 10. We're doing it inside. Up 12 at the half; still doing it inside. Up 20 with 10 to play.

71-55. Easy win. 17, 12 for Sims, 14, 4, 3 for Blen, 11, 10, 3 for Akpo. +13 RBs, 12 TOs.

We shot only 34.7% but they shot 35.7%, and we took 16 more shots. 9 threes to their 4. We controlled the paint.

We end the regular season at 26-5, 14-4, alone in 2nd in the PAC 12. Ranked #9, NET #10.

+12.9 PPG, #1 in PPG. +8.3 RBs, #2 in RBs, -4.9 TOs, but 12.5, which is not good enough.

Akpo leads us with 15.2 PPG and 9.6 RBs. Sims is 2nd in both. Maxx is 3rd in scoring. All 5 starters average at least 10.9.

Akpo drops to #6 on the Norton list so is likely 2nd team All American.

3/9: We play #7 seed Oregon, 18-12, 9-9, in the quarter finals of the PAC 12 tournament. Beat them by 10 at our place, 21 at theirs. We think we're better both inside and out. Their leading scorer broke an ankle awhile ago and that sent them spiraling downhill.

3/10: Len Burd, recruit: I'm so excited! The PAC 12 tourney is here in Phoenix this year. Mom and dad are letting me go to all the games even though it means I missed school today. My goal is to start at PG at Cal as a freshman next year. I've seen them play 3 times this season but this is a tournament. I have GREAT seats, next to Coach Clark's wife.

Good start. We take an early lead. Up 11 after 10. Tim Smid is pretty good at PG. I'm going to have my hands full taking his job! Up only 5 at the half.

I get a hot dog and a Coke at the half.

Up only 6. 10 left. Akpo is amazing! Uh oh. We're behind with 5 left.

88-81. 6th man Jon Blen came in late and nailed a three and then another one, and that did it for us. We only made 3 threes all game so those were huge.

19, 12, for Akpo, 19, 11 for Sims. Smid had 12 with 6 assists and he played good D. I don't know if I can take his job after tonight. Sure gonna give it my best shot though. I definitely want to play in the NBA after school.

+19 RBs and that was the difference, well inside play in general, and free throws, 29 to 20. Too many TOs though, 17, but Smid only had 3.

We play #3 seed Utah next. They're 21-9, 12-6. We won by 6 at home but got crushed by 20 there, but Akpo was hurt and didn't play. We need to defend their Center; he can play. I think we need to win the inside game. Let's see if my man Smid can dish the ball to the bigs.

3/11: I got to hang out with the team after the game and even went out to eat with them. Dad gave me taxi money since he kind of thought I'd be home late. I got in at about midnight. Now I'm back ready for the game to start. A reporter from the Berkeley school newspaper actually interviewed me a little while ago. Very cool!

Uh oh. Smid threw it away twice early. We're down. Down 6 after 10. We're sloppy and not playing good D inside. Whoa! Run! They come back though. Down 4 at the half.

Their SG is hitting shots. Down 4 with 10 to play. C'mon guys! It's not happening...

80-87. They out played us for sure. -9 RBs! We didn't play D; they shot 52.6% and we only shot 36.8%. It was about D, we didn't play enough of it.

I went to the locker room after the game anyway. As I was saying goodnight I told Coach I wasn't going to come tomorrow.

He said, “Oh yes you are. You're going to sit with the team. Nobody wins 'em all and I want you to show the team that you're with us.”

I never thought of it that way and I told Coach I'd be here.

Colorado upset #1 AZ ST in the second game. Nobody expected that!

Utah won the title.

We'll go to the big dance, most likely with a decent seed, Coach says.

3/12: #3 South. We play #14 NC Central, 21-11. Wish I could go but dad says we don't have that kind of money and I'd miss too much school. I'm disappointed that we didn't win the tournament but it was a lot of fun anyway, and I got to know the guys a little. All of them were really nice to me, including Tim Smid.

3/16: Coach Clark here. NC Central is in way over their heads with us. They play good D but against weak teams. We need to play our game but if we do we'll win.

First close up images of the rogue planet. There are some really interesting looking … things on the surface. We need to get a little closer but it sure looks like some of the structures are not natural formations. This could be really interesting.
