Feb. 14: #13 Indiana Hoosiers (19-5, 9-1) @ Winthrop Eagles (10-11, 4-6)
Mike McMillan: There were 7 lead changes in the first 8 minutes of the game, but we then scored 9 straight points and by the end of the half led 42-33. Our lead expanded midway through the 2nd half to 17 points and we came away with an 81-73 win by knocking down 56% of our FG’s and 64% of our 3’s. Chris Broussard—19 pts, 4 ast, 3 stl; Ray Richardson—17 pts, 4 reb (in 13 min. on the court); Brian Valdez—12 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast; Jason Collier—10 pts, 6 reb, 2 ast. [20-5, 10-1, 1st place]
Feb. 17: #13 Indiana Hoosiers (20-5, 10-1) @ Auburn Tigers (13-9, 5-6)
Ramon Montez: The first half was a real battle with neither team able to get ahead by much. At halftime we led 31-30. The first 11 minutes of the 2nd half were even closer, if that’s possible. After 16 lead changes in the game, we began stepping away from Auburn to achieve a 75-61 victory. We hit 52% of our shots compared to 42% by the Tigers and forced Auburn into making 21 turnovers. Brian Valdez—16 pts, 3 ast, 2 stl; George Zinn—10 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast; Chris Broussard—10 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 3 stl; Julius Waterman—8 pts. [21-5, 11-1, 1st place]
Feb. 21: Duquesne Dukes (14-9, 7-5) @ #13 Indiana Hoosiers [21-5, 11-1)
Terry Morillo: Neither team could get more than a 3 point lead during the first 15 minutes during which there were 6 lead changes. But Chris Broussard got hot, scoring most of his 13 points as the first half wound down…and he led us to a 41-30 halftime advantage. We outshot the Dukes 60% to 36% but all other aspects of the game in the half were pretty equal. Duquesne closed to within 5 points midway through the 2nd half, but we regained a solid lead only to have the Dukes cut it to 3 points with 3 minutes to go. We never let them get closer and finished by whipping Duquesne in a hard-fought game 72-65. Chris Broussard—17 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk; George Zinn—10 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl; Brett Mosley—10 pts, 3 ast; Julius Waterman—9 pts, 3 reb, Ray Richardson—8 pts, 3 reb. Julius Waterman injured his wrist which may limit him in our next game. [22-5, 12-1, 1st place but still just 1 game ahead of #17 ranked Richmond.]
