DDSCB23: Alone

5/1: Recruit Class #46, which puzzles me. I think I brought some damn good kids in!

We exceed Expected to Spend.

5/29: We lose We lose 3, two would have started. Alex Ward started last year, Mike Stro would have started this year. Marc Broy was the last man on the bench. We’ll look for 2 bigs and a guard or maybe 3 big men.

I cut senior Gary Oslo who qualifies for an academic scholarship. He was the 2nd last man on the bench.

6/2: We offer to 3 PFs

6/5: We get 2. At least one will start.

We offer to another PF.

6/8: No luck but we offer to him again. He’s the only guy we want.

6/12: No.

We offer to a C.

6/16: We get him.

6/25: We’ll go to Indy and all of the regional camps.

6/26: We have 4 scholarships to fill. We need 2 and 2.

7/11: Recruiting is going well.

May is working out well so far. She’s very feisty but still nerd girl enough for me to be interested. She is not exactly the way I programmed her and I’m guessing she will evolve over time and be even less the way I programmed her. Interesting.

7/31: We offer to 2 PGs and 2 Cs.

8/7: Frosh PF Gene Feld is #39 on the Norton list.

9/4: We have high hopes with most of the guys we offered to.

9/18: We get 3, lose 1. We get 2 PGs, #46, #50, and a C, #39.

We offer to a C.

Going to the Swish Invitational. Definitely a stronger schedule this season.

9/25: We lose one and offer to a C.

10/2: We get the C, #38.

1st day of practice. We may be better than last year, especially in the back court.

One of the robots stopped working. I have the other one trying to repair it.

10/16: It took some time but the robot is fixed, back at 100%.

May is a delight. She likes to battle for territory which is not necessarily fun but it is both realistic and interesting. She was a hoops fan before we met and she is quite knowledgeable. She’s excited to be able to sit in my seats, across from the bench in the 3rd row.

We talk about books quite a lot. We are both adventurous when it comes to food so we go to restaurants that are far from comfort food or standard American cuisine.

She’s an avid hiker so instead of running I now hike with her most mornings. We often “bushwhack,” which means go off the trails to hike.

11/15: We start tomorrow with 1-0 Temple here. They run a free wheeling, fast paced offense. They play man on D and they like to press. They crushed their opponent in their opener giving up only 57.

We think we’re better, especially outside.

Here’s the lineup:

Sal Moon, a juco junior, is at PG. He has looked terrific in practice.

Senior Wah Scot switches to SG. He’s a good shooter and a good defender. He turns it over too often to play the Point.

#3 guard is frosh Art Howe. He’s still growing as a player but he’s already good. He’d start for a lot of teams. Soph Jim Turr is not happy to move back a spot in the rotation. I expect him to transfer in
the Spring. Senior Jem Bett will only play in garbage time unless we get injuries.

Junior Rash Spin, a transfer from Memphis where he started last season, is at SF. He may be our best defender and he can light it up.

Frosh Gene Feld is at PF. He made the Norton list and he looks like he belongs there.

Junior Jack More is back at C. He was our best player last season and he looks better this year.

1st big man off the bench is Junior Joey Welp, a transfer from Oklahoma, where he started for the past two years. That says a lot about how strong we are. Frosh Ed Ells is good and he’s going to be very good. He can really shoot. Senior Cid Mose is too good to be this far down the bench but we’ve got a lot of players.

11/16: We’re picked to finish 2nd in the ACC behind #1 ranked Syracuse. Considering that there are 7 ranked teams in the conference and we’re not one of them, that may be a tall order, but we’re ready to give it a shot.

90-66 over Temple. We led for the last 37 minutes. Up 10 at the half then we poured it on in the 2nd. Leading by as many as 26.

24, 8 for More, picking right up from last season. 20, 4, 3, 3 for Wah Scot, who seems much happier at 2 than he was at 1. 10, 13, 3, 3 blocks for Gene Feld in his debut. 12, 6 for Mose. +30 in the paint.

Vermont, 1-0, is here. This is a team we should beat.

11/19: 100-93. A real shootout! 24 lead changes, 9 ties. They led by one at the half. It was close for 38 minutes. In the last 2 minutes we outscored them 11-3. They missed some shots, we got some steals, and we couldn’t miss.

21, 4, 3, 3 for Scot, 19, 7 for More, 17, 3, 5 for PG Sal Moon, 12, 6, 4 for sub F/C Joey Welp.

+18 in the paint, +11 RBs, +16 on 2nd chances.

Our foreign recruit did not sign. That may mean he won’t hit our SAT score so we’re looking at other guards. The other 3 recruits did sign.

It occurs to me that I never described the robots. They are 4 feet tall, have 4 arms, have “pockets” of various shapes, sizes, and uses, strategical positioned around their bodies. They have 4 eyes, located so that they can see in 360 degrees. They run on wheels, not legs. They have a high capacity brain stored with all kinds of information, and the brain has the ability to… figure things out based on material in the brain or inputted in at a later time. They don’t have speech capability since it’s not needed. It could be added. They do understand human speech and can react to it, respond to it, and act upon it. They communicate to my phone. They need to recharge every 24 hours. One does it midday, the other does it in the middle of the night so that one of them is always “on the job.”

I could easily have more robots created now that robot #1 has created robot #2. I could even have them create a robot with a different design for different purposes. No need of that at present.

We’re off to 1-0 Rutgers. They played good D in their opener but only had 19 RBs.

11/23: 93-70. Only up 4 at halftime. Then we got serious in the 2nd, scoring 56. 20, 6 for More, 18, 5, 3 for Scot who is flourishing at SG. 12, 1, 11, 4 for Moon, 13, 7, 2, 3, 5 blocks for Welp.

+26 in the paint, +14 RBs.

Off to the Swish Invitational. #4 seed, we’ll play #5 Davidson, 1-1. They have not looked impressive.

11/25: 88-74. We led for the last 35 minutes. Up 15 at the break. 22, 9 for More, 19, 4, 3, 4 for Scot, 15, 2, 6 for Moon.

+28 in the paint, +9 RBs. The fouls went against us or it would have been a total blowout.

Back up F Ed Ells has back spasms. Out for a couple of weeks.

#1 seed, #11 ranked Houston. 5-0, in the semis. They can play, especially outside, and they defend well. This is our first test of the season. Let’s see if we can pass it!

11/26: 84-69. Test passed! We led all the way, by as many as 24. Up 12 at the half. Jack More led the way, as usual. He had 22, 8, and 3. 16, 3 for sub guard Art Howe, 16, 5 for Feld. +20 in the paint,

+11 RBs. Too many whistles but it hurt Houston more than it hurt us. We play them again later in the season.

#2 seed Penn St, 3-2, in the title game. They’re good outside.

11/27: 110-74 and the tourney title. It was close for about 22 minutes. We scored 56 to their 28 in the 2nd half. 22, 11 for More, 23, 8 for Feld, 19, 64 for SF Rash Spin. Scot played only 10 minutes due to foul trouble. Art Howe did a good job filling in for him, especially on D.

+44 in the paint, +18 on 2nd chances, +14 RBs. We definitely won this one inside.

Starting PG Sal Moon has back spasms. He’ll play. But not as many minutes. Art Howe will fill in.

It’s my dream school, 3-1 UConn here next. I desperately wanted to play for them when I was a kid but I wasn’t good enough. They were and still are the winningest program in NCAA history with 19 national titles. When they weren’t interested in me I played at CCSU. I’d LOVE to coach them and if they ever come calling I’ll be there in a heartbeat.

They’re tough and we’ll need to play well to beat them.

11/30: 112-80. Most points ever scored by one of my teams. We scored 63 in the 1st half! 40, 8 for More, 16, 3 for Scot, 11, 9 for Feld, 11, 8 for Welp. +24 RBs, +46 in the paint, +16 on 2nd chances.

I had a nice chat with UConn’s A. D. after the game.

We’re 7-0, #15, NET #1.

12/3: 74-63. We led all the way but they stayed close until late. Up 8 at the break. 15, 9 for Feld, 13, 2, 5, 4 for Scot, 12, 8 for More, 10 each for Welp and Howe.

Jack More pulled a groin muscle. Out for 2 weeks. Welp will get his minutes. Fortunately, Ells is back from his injury.

I’ve been thinking it makes sense to have 2 more robots built. I have my robots on the task. I like having back up.

4-2 Indiana is here. Their SG is an All American. They play solid D.

Let’s see how we do without More.

We’re ranked #6.

12/7: 75-53. We had this one all the way. 47-22 at the half. 15, 11, 3 blocks for Welp, 15, 9 for Feld, 11, 4, 5 for Moon, 10, 9 for Spin, 10, 5 for Scot. +21 RBs, +14 in the paint.

It took forever to get the first robot built but these two will be done in a week or so, two weeks at the most. These two will be just like the other two. No need to change the design as they’re being built for back up, not for any sort of specialized tasks.

At 6-1 Alabama. While they’re 6-1 they haven’t played anybody. We think we’re better.

More healed quickly and he’s back.

12/13: 95-70. It was close for a half. Up only 2 at halftime. Then we took over in the 2nd. 23, 6, 5 for Scot, 20, 6, 5 for Moon but 6 TOs. 16, 7, 4 blocks for Feld, 12, 3, 3, 4 for More who is not quite at 100%. +20 in the paint.

May and I are getting along really well. The hiking and dining out are great fun, and our discussions on all kinds of topics are pretty special as well.

Robots are finished and operational. I’m going to take 2 of them up to the ship with me. I’ve been thinking I want the ship to be able to send messages down to me. No, I’m not expecting messages. I don’t mean that. But the ship is an asset and I’d like to know if anything needs fixing. They can detect meteors and such better than we can, and sooner, so having that communication will be a big help. The odds are overwhelmingly against a meteorite hitting the building again but if a big one is on the way I want to know.

7-3 Houston is here in our final pre-conference game. We beat them by 15 in the Swish Invitational semifinal when they were ranked #11. They have since dropped out of the top 25.

We think we’re a lot better but then they will have revenge on their minds.

12/21: 89-68 and we finish pre-conf play undefeated!

We started fast and built a double digit lead in no time. Up 20 at the break.

28, 15 for More, 12, 8 for Feld, our other 3 starters had 10 each. Moon had 10 assists and 8 rebounds.

+18 RBs, +24 in the paint.

12/25: 11-0, ranked #9, NET #1.

+20.9 PPG, #1 in the nation in points. +12.1 RBs, -5.4 turnovers, averaging 10.3, which I’m very happy with. #3 overall NET rating.

Jack More leads us with 23.2, 8.3. He’s scoring a little less because we have other scorers this season. 14.8 for Wah Scot, 12.2, 7.5 for Feld, 1.3, 7.4 assists for Sal Moon. Very good numbers for Spin, Welp, and Howe.

12/26: I went up to the ship with 2 robots. The plan was to have them check that everything is okay, and then to rig up a system that would allow the ship to communicate with me and with them down on the planet.

I got the shock of my life… There was a message from Earth. Given that it’s been 4 ½ years since the nuclear disaster I had assumed everyone was dead. I sat and wasn’t able to open the message for several minutes. When I did I found that it had been sent in early October. Here’s what it said:

Hello to the Mars colony. This is Reggie Fox in Churchill, Manitoba. When the bombs struck 4 ½ years ago, being in such a remote area none of them struck anywhere near us. We realized that the effects would hit us though, and they did. They surely did.

Slowly and steadily a community of 3,555 dwindled and dwindled. A year ago there were 68 of us left. Suicide and cancer have reduced that number to 24, and only 3 of us don’t have cancer- yet.

I’m one of the three.

We never thought about the Mars colony until a few days ago. There was simply too much going on, and the fight for survival is too difficult for us to focus upon much else.
When we did think about the 674 of you we were elated. Your presence on Mars means it may be possible for humanity to survive. That gives us a rare thing- something positive to focus on.

We’re hoping you’ll get this message and start a dialogue with us. No doubt there are lots of other small colonies all over our planet but, like us, they will all be wiped out by cancer before long.

Still, we’re here.

I’ll close by saying that all three of us are physicians of one kind or another. Maggie Wells is a pediatrician, Carla Keys is a general surgeon, and I’m an embryologist, more of a researcher than a practitioner, but a physician nonetheless.

So if you get this, and I hope you do, keep in touch! There’s no way for us to ever meet but the human contact would be great!

Reggie

I looked at the message, read it again, read it again. We were too busy for me to reply immediately. The robots finished what they had to do and we headed back to the surface. I knew my message would be down there waiting for me and that I would get any subsequent messages, and would be able to write back as soon as I got the time.

Re: DDSCB23: Alone

Postby Wayne23 » Sun Dec 17, 2023 6:06 pm

12/27: We’re at #23 Virginia Tech, 11-0. We think we’re better outside and about equal inside but this is the battle of two of the only undefeated teams in Division I.

12/28: 83-101 and the winning streak ends at 11. They led all the way, by as many as 27. We just didn’t play D, allowing them to shoot 52.8%.

25, 11, 4 blocks for Feld, 16, 6 for More. The game was pretty even inside but they killed us outside, where we thought we had an edge.

Losses are never fun but they’ll come to our place later in the season and we hope it will be a different story.

I’m mulling over my response to Reggie, Maggie, and Carla.

1/1/2227: #25 ranked, 11-2, 2-0 Georgia Tech is here. They play solid D but we’re a lot better on the boards. There are few, if any, easy games in the ACC, and we don’t expect this one to be easy.

1/2: 90-64. Gotta love playing at home!

We led all the way, by 14 at halftime. 21, 12 for More, 18, 15 for Feld, 18, 9, 3 for Spin. Only 7 TOs. +42 in the paint, +16 on 2nd chances, +17 RBs.

Dear Reggie, Maggie, and Carla,

I’m Jake Wynn, on Mars.

First, you gave me the shock of my life. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would hear from Earth. Glad you’re there and hope the three of you will somehow escape cancer, at least for a long, long time.

Now to crush your dreams about the Mars colony.

I am the only survivor.

A few days into the mission I piloted the shuttle up to our ship to see if we’d left anything behind and to just check things out on the ship.

When I came back to the planet I discovered that a meteorite had struck the building where all of were housed.

As I rushed to the buildings I had hopes that some or all of my fellow colonists had managed to get into their hazard suits, but alas, not one of them was able to do so. They were all lying dead.

It was undoubtedly the most horrible day of my life and the days following were no better.

Over the next two days I managed to give them all a decent burial, in a mausoleum in the holosuite. And then the realization hit that I was totally, utterly, and permanently alone. That led to some very difficult days as I’m sure you understand.

Over time I’ve built a life for myself here. I live in the holo and spend almost all of my time in there. This gives me a chance to interact with “people” which I do quite a bit. I understand what they are but at the same time I manage to suspend disbelief and treat them as real. Fortunately, I am introverted by nature so I also spend a lot of time alone.

I abandoned the plan to terraform Mars thinking there is no point since there will be no one to live here when I am gone.

That’s enough for now, and hopefully I won’t have any more horrible news like I had this time. I look forward to your reply.

Jake

8-6, 1-2 Pitt is here. The odds makers have this as a virtual toss up but I think we’re better.

1/6: 93-81. It was back and forth for about 30 minutes. We trailed by 3 at the half. About midway through the 2nd half we begam to take charge. We never went on a big run but we were getting nearly all of the rebounds and we were making shots.

22, 5 for More, 17, 10 for Feld, 13, 3, 3, 3 for Scot.

+14 in the paint. We won it inside.

4 game road trip coming up. Ugh!

At 6-8, 1-3 Kona. We score 21.5 more per game but they play tough D.

We’re ranked #8.

1/9: 74-67. We got out of the gate quickly and built a 25 point lead. It was 17 at the half. They chipped away at it in the 2nd but never got closer than the final score.
24, 1, 3 for Scot, 17, 14 for Feld, 15, 4 for More, who played only 14 minutes due to foul trouble.

+20 in the paint. We went to the line 20 times fewer than they did and I got myself another T. We won it inside.

At #4 ranked Syracuse, 13-2, 3-1. . They’re heavily favored. Their C is at least as good as More. They play terrific D. But they can be beaten, GA Tech beat them.

We’re ranked #8.

1/11: 86-85. Hell of a game and a GREAT win!

We started very fast and built the lead to 21. It was 15 at the half. They came back in the second and over the last few minutes the lead changed hands several times. At the end they hit a three to go up by one. We brought it down, tried to set up for the last shot. PG Sal Moon did everything he could to make it look like he wanted to get the ball inside to Moon and the D collapsed down low. Moon quickly worked off a screen by Felt and drained a 14 footer at the buzzer.

21, 7 for More, 17, 3, 9 for Moon, 18, 8, 2, 3 for Feld.

We had 42 in the paint to their 18, and that was the difference.

We’re in a 4 way tie for 1st with 4 more teams one game back but it’s very early.

At 10-6, 4-1 North Carolina. Their starting SF is out with back issues. They’re very good outside and their PF is tough. We score 14.6 a game more than they do. They’re undefeated at home so far.

1/16: 92-89. Another great road win!

They took an early lead and built it to 14. We were down 13 at the half. We didn’t play good D in the first, giving up 51. I raised the roof and made a change on D and we came out a different team in the 2nd. We chipped away at the lead and took our first lead with 48.6 to play. More and Moon hit shots late and after a three by Moon (He was 7-8 on threes!) they got it with 4.9 left, plenty of time to set up a three. Their coach called time and I set up our D with 3 guards in the line up and only More near the basket. We didn’t let them get a good shot. The 24 footer they took was short.

29, 13 for Jack More, 23, 5, 5 for Moon. Those two were immense. 13, 8 for Welp, 11, 6 for Spin.

We definitely won it inside. +10 RBs, +10 in the lane, +10 on 2nd chances.

The last of the 4 game road trip is at 14-4, 5-2 Boston College. They’re much better than they were last season. They play good D and have a really good bench.

1/18: 95-88 and we go 4-0 on the road trip. Amazing!

It was a game most of the way. We led by 5 at the break then got it to 12 early in the 2nd. They came back and actually tied it twice. Then we went on a 9-0 run late and that got it done.

20 and 15 for Feld, 14, 0, 9 for Moon, 12 and 7 for Spin. More played only 12 minutes due to fouls and had only 10 and 3. I couldn’t complain to the zebras too much because we went to the line 20 times more than they did.

+16 in the paint. As usual, we won it inside.

We haven’t heard from Earth again but I’m sure we will.

12-7, 4-4 Clemson is here. It’s nice to be back home! They score most of their points in the paint and play good D.

1/20: 97-73. We led all the way. Up 10 at the break. We started the 2nd half with a 12-2 run and built the lead to 36.

19, 2, 8, 5 for Moon, 17, 10, 4 for More, 15, 6 for Feld, 13, 6, 4 for Welp. +34 in the lane.

9-9, 2-6 Duke is here. They only score 66.7 but they play good D.

1/25: 66-45. Their D was very good and ours was phenomenal.

We were up 27-15 at the half, a high school score. Both teams shot better in the 2nd. They never threatened us and we led by as many as 28.

19, 4 for Moon, 14, 1, 3 for Scot, 12, 6 for Feld. They double teamed More all night and he wound up with 8 and 12. The double team didn’t work since we found the open man nearly every time.

We shot 38.9% to their 32.7%. +22 in the lane.

Wah Scot hurt his hand. He’s day to day.

We’re alone in 1st place in the ACC.

Dear Jake,

We’re down to 19. We lost Carla. She was diagnosed with liver cancer and she shot herself. So sad.

Life is very hard here. 3d printers assure us we have enough to eat, but the landscape is so desolate. The radioactivity in the air makes it so that nothing will grow and everything is barren and desolate.

There’s death all around. We almost never see an animal, and the plant life is all dead.

Like you we spend lots of time in the holo. It’s a wonderful escape.

We need to implore you to try to find a way to terraform Mars. There are lots of reasons to do so. The only one I’ll talk about in this letter is the possibility that a terraformed Mars would go through a long evolutionary process which might possibly lead to intelligent life in a few million years.

There are other reasons and I’ll get to those in other letter.

Reggie and Maggie.

At 12-7, 5-4 Miami. They play very good D and they’re favored. I tell my guys and use it as motivation.

We’re ranked #5. NET #1.

1/27: 80-71. It was close for a long time. Down 2 at the half and 10 early in the 2nd. Then we put it together and made our run. We took the lead and got it to 18 before Miami closed it to 9.

28, 9 for More, 24, 9, 3 blocks for Feld. Their back court played better than ours but we overwhelmed them inside. +24 in the lane.

At the halfway point in ACC play we lead by 1 ½ over #12 Ga. Tech, and by 3 in the loss column to 3 teams. Ranked #4, NET #1.

1/29: As we feared our foreign recruit didn’t hit our SAT score. We offer to a PG. If he says no we’ll wait for the transfer pool.

I’ve been thinking about terraforming and doing research on it. It would require creating maybe 25-30 more robots, specialized to do the work in the cold. We’d need to print and construct a shack and a holo outside the building. The shack would be for tools and supplies, and the holo would be to create those tools and supplies. Actually 3-4 holos would be better. Still doing the research.

15-6, 4-6 Va. Tech is here. They clobbered us by 18 at their place but they aren’t playing nearly as well lately.

Scot is back to 100%.

Gene Feld is #28 on the Norton list. I have no idea why More wasn’t nominated for the list.

1/30: 105-84. We led for the last 32 minutes. Up 10 at the half and up to 30 in the 2nd.

32, 9 for More, 16, 5 for Scot, 13, 5, 6 for Moon, 13, 5, 5 for Welp.

+13 RBs, +34 in the paint. More was the difference in this one.

Ga. Tech lost so we’re up by 2.5.

Still researching terraforming. Haven’t printed anything yet as I’m not fully committed to the project. I would need to get outside regularly to check the robots’ work and that idea does not appeal to me.

Originally 50 of our 64 people would have worked on terraforming and I was not one of the 50. Still, I may go ahead with this. Hard to say.

At 13-10, 5-7 Clemson. We won by 24 at home. They score a lot of points inside but we think we’re better, especially outside.

2/3: 88-67. 42-19 at the half! We never let them in during the 2nd half.

17, 6 for More despite playing only 16 minutes due to fouls. 17, 4, 1, 3 for Scot, 16, 3 for Welp, 14, 6 for Feld.

+22 for the bench. +18 in the lane, +12 on 2nd chances.

I’m amazed and overjoyed that we keep winning. Using the transfer portal and good recruiting we’ve built an absolute powerhouse here in Raleigh.

22-1, 11-1, up by 2.#3, NET #1.

At 10-12, 4-8 Virginia. They have a good outside game but we’re the better team. Still, no guarantees on the road!

2/8: 86-83. We had to work for it!

15 lead changes, 8 ties. Moon hit 2 threes in the last 30 seconds. VA got the ball for the last time with 2.1 to play. They took a halfcourt shot that missed everything.

23, 16, 3 blocks for Feld, who keeps getting better. 20, 7 for More, 17, 6, 5 for Moon, 12, 9 for Scot. +15 RBs, +12 in the lane, +20 on put backs.

Up by 3 games.

Dear Reggie and Maggie,

I’m still pondering terraforming Mars. I’m doing all the research I can regarding what resources would be needed and specifically how to go about it.

While I would not have anything to do with construction I would still need to supervise and go outside to check on things pretty much every day. Not sure I’m up to that given the temps and the fierce winds on Mars. I’m a statistician, and I was not slated to be part of the terraforming team.

Still, it’s a possibility.

I really hope the worst of your suffering is over. I was so sad to hear about Carla.

Jake

12-12, 5-8 Louisville is here. They have a strong inside game but ours is better.

2/13: 77-67 as we keep rolling along. 13 wins in a row.

13 lead changes, 10 ties. Up 5 at the half. We didn’t take control until the last few minutes when we got the lead to 14.

19, 4, 1, 3 for Scot, 13, 6, 2, 3 for Moon. Their bigs outplayed ours, but our guards and our bench brought it home.

Joey Welp badly bruised a bicep. Out for as long as 2 weeks.

At #12 Georgia Tech, 19-6, 10-4. We crushed them by 26 at home. We think we’re better but they can play, especially at home, where they’re 12-2.

2/15: 76-89. The winning streak stops at 13. They led all the way, by as many as 17. We were down 11 at halftime. They shot 56.1% to our 40.3%, so D was a big factor. They won it outside with very good guard play.

25, 7 for More, 19, 4, 8 for Moon but 6 TOs. +20 in the paint but it wasn’t enough.

Still in 1st with a 2 game lead with 5 to play, and our next 4 are at home.

12-12, 8-7 Florida ST is here. We should beat this team.

2/17: 92-80. There were lots of lead changes early on but we built an 8 point lead by halftime. The lead was at least 10 for most of the 2nd.

29, 13 for More, 17, 8, 6, 3 steals, 4 blocks for Feld, 12, 4, 4 for Scot, 14 RBs for Spin. +16 RBs, +12 in the lane. We won this one inside. Their guards were much better than ours.

Back to a 3 game lead over both Syracuse and Ga. Tech.

25-2, 14-2. #4, NET #1.

14-12, 8-7 North Carolina is here. We won by only 3 there. They’e 1-4 vs. ranked teams. We didn’t play good D last time and their guards were too much for ours.

2/20: 91-64. This was nothing like our first game. It was a blowout.

We never trailed and led by as many as 31. Up 19 at the half. 31, 15 for More, 13, 4 for Mose. +16 for the bench. +20 RBs, +38 in the paint.

15-11, 10-6 Kona is here. We won by only 7 at their place. They’re 2 and 4 vs. ranked teams but the 2 wins were in their last 2 vs. ranked teams.

Welp is back to 100%.

2/22: 103-84. There were several lead changes early. We took the lead permanently at about the 17 minute mark and were up by 7 at the half. We were owning the inside and that continued in the
2nd when we walked away with it.

25, 7 for More, 22, 12, 3 blocks for Feld, 17, 7, 6 for Scot, 15, 3 for Spin. +19 RBs, +20 in the lane.

We have clinched 1st place in the ACC.

Dear Jake,

I need to implore you once again to terraform Mars. As to your concerns about going outside under those horrible conditions, have you forgotten that you can design programs to do all of your checking from inside via video cams? That would work. If a robot were disabled other robots could bring it inside for repair. You really don’t need to go outside at all.

Please consider this suggestion.

Again, there are other reasons at play here but we don’t wish to discuss them until later.

Reggie and Maggie

#5 Syracuse, 22-6, 12-5, is here. We won by only 1 at their place. They have an outstanding C, maybe 1st team All American, and their outside game is very good. We’ll need to be at our very best.

2/27: 87-81. A great win! Maybe a preview of the ACC tourney title game.

We started fast and built a big lead. We were up 13 at the break. We built it to 21 before Syracuse started to cut into it. The cosest they got was the final score.

18, 11 for Feld, 16, 3, 4 for Scot, 12, 6, 3 for Mose, 10, 3, 10, 4 for Moon, 10, 4 for Welp. Way too many fouls called and out entire front court was in foul trouble but the bench stepped up big time,
+13. They were the difference, along with our back court. Because of the fouls our inside game was badly outplayed.

It was senior night and we honored Wah Scot, Cid Mose, and Jem Bett. Only Scot played a lot but all three deserve to be honored.

4 game lead with 1 to play.

Dear Reggie and Maggie,

I’m going to commit to terraforming. I’ve begun the long process of 3D printing the robots, 30 of them, tools, shack, and holos that will be needed for the project. My 4 robots are on it, 2 of them inside doing the robots, the other 2 outside doing the holos, tools, shack…

One problem I have no idea how to solve is the fierce winds here on Mars. When it’s typically windy that’s no problem but when the winds get intense not only won’t the robots be able to work, but anything they’ve laid down on the ground will be blown away. Hopefully we can come up with a solution.

This project won’t be finished any time soon, of course.

Our final regular season game is at Wake Forest, 16-14, 6-13. It’s tough to motivate when a game is meaningless, which this one is. We’re much the better team but will we be “up” for this one.

3/3: 81-62. It was never a game. Up 16 at halftime and we got the lead to 27 in the 2nd. 14, 15 for Feld, 16, 6 for Scot, 12, 6 for More, 12, 4, 3 for Welp.

+14 RBs, +30 in the lane, +17 on 2nd chances but we won this one outside.

3/5: We finish the regular season at 29-2, 18-1, ranked #3, NET #1. Up 4 games on Syracuse, 6 or more on the rest.

Sal Moon leaves for the draft which will hurt us.

The guard we were recruiting said no. We will be very short handed at guard next season unless we can get some good guards from the transfer pool.

+14.4 PPG, #1 in the nation in scoring. #4 in RBs, #7in assists. Our NET Rating is #5. Why NET is used in two different ways in two different places is beyond me.

+9.6 RBs, -4.4 turnovers, 11.1 per game. I’ll take anything under 12.

21.2, 8.2 for More, 14.4, 8.9 for Feld. 13.0 for Scot, , 11.4, 7.3 assists for Moon.

On to the post season!
