A New Tomorrow

2/17: 92-55 over Penn ST here. 18, 3 11 for Kinz, 16 each for Ells and Sadd, 14, 12 for Felt, 12, 12 for Hamp. +18 RBs.

The insects seem to have disappeared. No sign of any live ones for two days. If they're gone we'll need to wait and see how many years until they return. And it won't be possible to test any chemical solutions to keeping them at bay so we failed at that. Same for vaccines.

2/20: 98-71 over Iowa here. 27, 5 for Hamp. 21 for Ells. 5 TOs.

2/24: 92-89 at Rutgers. They're not a very good team but they gave us fits all night long. They had the last possession but missed an open three. 29, 11 for Hamp, 19, 4, 8 for Kinz, 20 for Sadd. +12 RBs.

2/27: 85-69 over Nebraska. 30, 11, 5 for Hamp. +20 RBs.

26-3, 15-3, #2, RPI #9. 1 up on #17 Michigan ST, 2 on #21 Minnesota, with 2 to play.

3/1: 79-67 over Maryland here. 26, 15 for Hamp, 25, 2, 4 for Kinz. 7 TOs.

Life is peaceful. The rains stopped yesterday, no bugs, no serial killer.

3/3: 90-70 over Wisconsin there. 7 players had between 10 and 14 points. +16 RBs.

28-3, 17-3, #1, RPI #9. We win the regular season by 1 over Michigan ST, 3 or more over the rest.

Hamp is #3 on the Norton list.

Ells and Sadd declare. We'd better hope our 2 guard recruits pan out.

3/8: We play #8 seed Maryland. 14-16, 9-11 in the quarters. Beat them by 12 here last week.

3/9: 74-54. 38-19 at the half. 19, 3, 2 for Sadd, 18, 2, 3 for Kinz, 12, 8 for Hamp. 9 TOs. Easy game.

#4 seed Purdue, 19-11, 13-7 in the semis. We won by 15 there. All of the favorites advanced.

3/10: 87-64. 50-27 at the half. 22, 11 for Hamp, 20, 5, 5 for Kinz. +11 RBs, 8 TOs.

I was able to rest my starters quite a bit so we'll be fresh for the title game against #2 seed, #16 ranked Michigan ST, 27-6, 16-4. They won by 2 there in our only meeting. I think we're the better team.

3/11: 89-75 and the title. 28, 16 for Hamp, 20, 8 for Felt, 15 for Kinz. +13 RBs, 6 TOs.

Despite our #7 RPI I expect a #1 seed.

#1 West. We play #16 Southern Utah, 20-14.

3/17: 88-57. No challenge. 21, 13, 3 for Hamp, 22, 3, 3 for Sadd. +24 RBs, 11 TOs.

Lou Felt sprained his wrist. He'll see limited time in our next game.

#9 seed San Diego ST, 21-13 in round 2.

3/19: 100-66. 20, 12, 5 for Hamp, 18, 9 for Felt despite the injury. +16 RBs, 11 TOs.

Tempted to go back to San Diego ST to see if I can return them to their former glory.

#5 seed, #23 ranked Syracuse, 25-10, in the Sweet Sixteen.

3/24: 80-68. They were a challenge. We finally wrapped it up with about 6-7 minutes to go. 18, 8 for Hamp, 18, 4, 6 for Sadd. +8 RBs, 9 TOs.

#3 seed, #11 ranked Villanova, 29-6, in the Elite Eight.

3/26: 80-68. Same score for 2 games in a row. We'll take it! They led by 14 early, by 7 at the half. I raised the roof at halftime and made a couple of changes on D. 18, 10, 3 for Hamp, 17, 4, 3 for Kinz.

Back to the Final Four where we play #14 seed Austin Peay, 26-9. They beat #3, #6, #2 and #13 to get here. On paper it's a mismatch but they're red hot.

4/1: 79-40. 44-22 at the half. 23, 8 for Hamp, 17, 2, 6 for Ells. 11 TOs.

#3 seed, #10 ranked Pepperdine, 31-6, for the title. LOTS of upsets in the tournament this year. Our job is to make sure there isn't one here.

4/3: 79-67 and back to back titles! We led all the way. 43-28 at the half. 20, 11 for MOP Bart Hamp. 5 others had between 10 and 13.

4/4: Awards: Bart Hamp wins the Norton Award and is a 1st team All American. I am National COY. In the Big Ten, Hamp is POY, Def POY, 1st team. Jeb Kinz and Lou Felt make 2nd team and I am Conf COY.

I may move soon but not as long as Hamp is here at UConn.

4/23: I ask for facilities.

No.

37-3 and the National title. 2 in a row here at UConn and my 3rd overall. After 17 seasons I am 522-101, .838.

On to the new season, going for a 3rd straight title.

5/1: #5 recruiting class. Preseason #2.

Going to the ACC.

6/5: 2 spots for transfers.

6/16: We get an SG and a PF, both of whom look really good.

6/26: 5 scholarships.

7/2: It's snowing, heavily. So the season has begun.

Life is settled here. People go to work, there are plenty of entertainment venues, both in people's home buildings and elsewhere, and there are holos in every building.
Everything is running smoothly.

7/3: A massive earthquake. The effect is felt throughout the Northeast sector of Domus. At least 15 buildings are destroyed or heavily damaged and another 15 have less severe damage.

7/5: 127 dead, 188 missing. Rescue crews are hard at work.

7/7: 11 people found trapped under a building and freed. All are injured, some seriously, but all are expected to live. 17 found dead under another building.

One of our two "extra" housing buildings was destroyed by the quake. The other is at capacity, and all empty living units on Domus are now occupied. Hundreds of other displaced people are living in makeshift housing or doubling up with friends.

The hospitals are near capacity with the injured. None of the injured have died.

7/8: 29 more bodies found. Hope of finding any more survivors is slim.

7/10: Replacement and repair of buildings has begun. The winter weather is not too severe so crews are able to work.

7/25: Work continues on the destroyed and damaged buildings. 47 additional bodies have been found. 84 still missing and presumed dead.

8/7: 6 on the Norton list: C Bart Hamo is #6, PG Ward Coon is #13, PF Lou Felt is #20, PG Ron Jenk is #28, PF Jab Robb is #31, and PF Fred Pell is #38. We seem to have a hell of a team!

People are showing frustration regarding temporary living quarters and crowded conditions but the truth is that it will be several months before everyone is back living in their own unit.

8/13: It's been snowy but no blizzards and not a lot of heavy wind. People have been able to travel between buildings most days without too much difficulty. Repair and replacement of buildings is able to be done most days. Only 7 people still missing and unaccounted for.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, an SG, an SF, and a C.

9/3: Winter seems to be over. More construction crews are formed.

9/18: We get 4, lose 1. We get an SG, #3, a C, #8, a PG, #10, an SF, #25. We lose a PG.

Alaskan Classic, and lots of ranked teams.

The "extra" housing building has been completed and many of those living in the most uncomfortable conditions are now housed there.

9/25: We lose a PF.

10/2: We get a PG from China, #38.

1st day of practice and we definitely have a good chance for #3 in a row.

A second "extra" building has been completed; we now have three of those. No one is now living doubled up or in non-standard housing but many are still displaced. Most of those will eventually be located to new housing.

10/9: Several of the less severely damaged buildings are now fit for occupancy. The number of displaced persons lessens regularly.

11/11: The estimate is that everyone will be in a permanent living unit before the rainy season begins.

11/14: The season starts tomorrow.

11/15: 94-64 at #24 Utah. 20, 4, 7 for PG Ward Coon, 21, 6 for SG Ron Jenk. Great bench play. +17 RBs. We're tough and deep.

11/18: 78-60 over #18 LSU in our home opener. 26, 12 for Hamp, 12, 12 for SF Fred Pell, 17, 7 for Jenk. +25 RBs.

11/20: All 5 recruits sign.

11/22: 90-51 over #4 Villanova here. 20, 6 for Hamp, 15 each for Pell and Coon, 14 for #3 guard Jeb Kinz. +16 RBs, 6 TOs.

Starting PF Lou Felt sprains his wrist. He's out for about a week.

Heading for the Alaskan Classic where we're the #1 seed. We play #8 Nebraska.

All repairs are completed, and all replacement buildings are completed. The work was finished about a month ahead of schedule and everyone is now in permanent housing.

11/25: 75-48. 22, 10 for Hamp. Easy. +15 RBs, 10 TOs.

#5 seed Penn, 3-1, in the semis.

11/26: 82-54. 19, 8 for Pell. +12 RBs, 11 TOs.

#2 seed, #15 ranked UMass, 4-1.

11/27: 78-64 and the title. 48-17 at the half. 18, 10, 6 for Hamp, 17, 9 for Pell. +22 RBs.

We're ranked #1.

11/29: 102-66 over Pepperdine here. Never a game. 18, 7, 7 for Jenk, 6 players had 12 or more. +17 RBs, 8 TOs.

12/2: 87-66 over #19 Rider here. 19, 13 for Hamp, 11, 4, 12 for Coon. +24 RBs.

12/6: 79-61 at Cincinnati. 24, 6 for PF Lou Felt, and 8 other players scored. We're regularly getting contributions from lots of players. 19 RBs from Hamp. +30 RBs.

At #7 UCLA next. Looking forward to a challenge.

12/13: 89-79. Great win! It was close for about 33-35 minutes. Bart Hamp owned his man getting 25 and 7 while holding him to 2 and 2. 16, 12 for Felt, 18, 2, 6 for Coon. 7 TOs.

One more pre-conf game, at Minnesota, 7-1.

12/20: 79-87 and the win streak ends at 10. Most points we've given up all season. Their SG lit us up for 24. 22 TOs didn't help.

10-1 for pre-conf. play. #1, RPI #1.

Life on Domus continues to run smoothly. The rainy season will be upon us in a week or two.

12/26: 88-73 at #17 North Carolina. Great win! It was close for a half. 26, 17 for Hamp, 16, 1, 9 for Coon, 14, 7 for Pell.

12/30: 84-66 at Wake Forest. 47-23 at the half. 23, 7 for Hamp, 21, 4 for Felt, 16, 3, 7 for Coon.

And the rains have started.

1/1/2195: Torrential rains.

1/2: And the bugs are back. Scientists are stumped by the fact that we saw no sign of them for the first 7 years or so that we explored and then lived on the planet and now we've seen them two years in a row. And yes, they are the same insects we saw last year. Experiments on vaccines and bug sprays have resumed.

1/4: 79-54 over Pitt here. 48-31 at the half. Balanced scoring, great D, +14 RBs.

We moved to the ACC because it is the toughest conference in the nation, but it seems to be having a down year.

The bugs are driving us mad. The mesh screens have been installed in about 40% of the buildings but in the others they get in and they're in and on everything and stinging us all. Lots of people are getting very ill and the rest are scratching maddeningly itching stings and sporting huge welts.

1/6: 78-47 at NC ST. Terrific D! 46-16 at the half. 24, 6 for Jenk, 16, 2, 8 for Coon.

The rainy season and the winter have always been misreable but these bugs are making the season intolerable. We need to figure something out.

1/11: 100-79 over Boston College here. The D wasn't up to its usual standard tonight but we were red hot on offense. 29, 9 for Hamp, 24, 6, 3 for Jenk, 13 assists for Coon. +16 RBs, 6 TOs.

1/13: 92-46 over Wake Forest at our place. 52-16 at the half. 28, 16 for Hamp. +24 RBs, 6 TOs.

1/16: 76-44 at Virginia. 51-21 at the half. 24, 9 for Hamp. +16 RBs.

Lou Felt sprained a finger on his shooting hand. Out for about a week and a half.

17-1, 7-0, 1 up on Georgia Tech, 2 or more on the rest. #1, RPI #1. +23.4 PPG (#1), +15.4 RBs (#1), +6.7 assists (#1), -3.0 TOs. Hamp leads us with 18.8 PPG and 9.2 RBs.

Coon gets 7.4 assists, #2 in the nation.

Our scientists have come up with a cream to apply to the bites. It does a great job of relieving the symptoms. It's no help to those who have an allergic reaction but it's a great help to the rest of us.

27 people killed by reactions to the stings and hundreds hospitalized.

1/20: 84-70 at Miami. 28, 4, 7 for Coon, 19, 11 for Hamp. +14 RBs.

1/23: 94-75 over Georgia Tech here. 25, 2, 10 for Coon, 14, 15, 5 for Hamp, 16, 13 for Felt. +21 RBs.

The bug cream has been a huge relief. It doesn't prevent the stings but most of us carry it around with us and if we apply it soon after being stung there's no itching or swelling.

The scientists have yet to find anything they can spray that doesn't harm humans as well as the bugs.

1/27: 87-41 over Clemson. Our #1 in the nation D was on tonight. 21, 5 for Hamp, 15, 7, 5 for Jenk. +17 RBs, 9 TOs.

Hamp is #6 on the Norton list, Coon #17, Pell #29.

2/1: 92-53 at Boston College. 49-21 at the half. 28, 11 for Hamp, 21, 2, 7 for coon, 12, 10 for Felt. +18 RBs, 6 TOs.

The chair of the Council died of complications from a bug bite today. It has taken a few very important members of our community.

2/6: 91-60 over Miami here. 31, 11, 4 with 5 blocks for Hamp. 18, 9 for Jenk. +24 RBs, 11 TOs.

2/8: 70-60 at Virginia Tech. They kept it relatively close. 20, 6 for Pell, 13, 11, 4 for Hamp, 17, 6 for Felt. +17 RBs but a season high 22 TOs.

The infestation continues.

2/13: 76-57 at Syracuse. 24, 5, 5 for Coon, 12, 13 for Pell. +17 RBs.

Hamp is #6 on the Norton list.

#1, RPI #1, 2 up on #21 Duke, 4 or more on the rest, with 6 to play.

2/15: 10-66 over Florida ST here. 25, 11, 4 for Hamp, 30, 7, 3 for Pell. +16 RBs, 9 TOs.

2/17: 86-57 over #21 Duke here, which increases our lead to 3 games with 4 to play. 30, 5, 3 for Hamp, 16, 3, 6 for Coon, 12, 7, 4 for Jenk. 11 TOs.

There seems to have been a marked increase in the number of bugs appearing. Not a good thing. We're overrun and overwhelmed by them.

2/22: 88-73 at Georgia Tech. Balanced scoring. We led by as many as 22.

2/24: 74-35 over Louisville. 35! Amazing! 23 for Jenk. +22 RBs, 11 TOs.

2/26: And the bugs are gone. The only progress we made against them was the cream which relieves the itch and swelling. Nothing to slow down their reproduction or spread. The mesh screens help but some bugs manage to get into those buildings, just fewer. If they come back next year, and we have no idea whether they will, we should have screens in place on all buildings.

2/27: 72-58 at Florida ST. 18, 17, 4 for Hamp, 19, 4, 5 for Coon. +25 RBs.

3/1: 77-43 over North Carolina. A runaway win. 22 for Jenk, 18 for Coon, 16 RBs for Hamp. +23 RBs, 7 TOs.

#1, #1, 30-1, 20-0. We win the ACC by 4. +24.6 PPG (#1), +16.0 RBs (#1), +7.0 assists (#1), -2.7 TOs. Hamp leads us with 18.9 PPG and 9.4 RBs. Coon gets 6.7 assists.

3/5: Bart Hamp is #5 on the Norton list.

Sub forward Jab Robb declares.

3/6: A devastating earthquake leveled the entire Southeast portion of the settlement. Early estimates are that between 1/5 and 1/6 of the buildings on Domus are either completely destroyed or significantly damaged, and nearly as many have minor damage. Hundreds, if not thousands of lives have been lost, and an estimated 60,000 people have had their homes destroyed. Medical labs, science labs, water treatment facilities, and all sorts of other vital facilities have been destroyed. This is a major disaster and the breadth and scope of it are not yet fully known.

3/8: More than 300 buildings totally destroyed, and nearly 400 others with significant damage. Temporary housing will last for as much as two years for some. 1247 confirmed dead, 4987 injured, and 3377 missing, either trapped or killed. Search parties are working round the clock but the area that needs to be searched is huge.

3/9: We play #9 seed Louisville, 14-17, 8-12, in the quarters.

Search and cleanup are ongoing. A few survivors have been located and dug out, but not many.

3/10: 93-59. A cakewalk. 60-33 at the half. Balanced scoring, +22 RBs.

#5 seed Pitt, 23-9, 12-8, in the semis. We won by 25 at our place. We were the only favorite to win yesterday.

3/11: 99-81. Lousy D but enough O to make up for it. 28, 11 for Hamp, 28, 8, 4 for Coon. +19 RBs, 12 TOs.

#7 seed, #23 ranked North Carolina for the title. We beat them by 15, then 34 during the regular season.

Rescue and clean up continue. We're finding a depressing number of corpses.

3/12: 84-64 and the title. We never trailed. 32, 5 for Hamp. +9 RBs.

We expect to be #1 overall.
