To Boldly Go

3/6: We play #9 seed Buffalo, 12-18, 7-11, in the quarter finals. We just played them and won by 12 there but earlier in the season beat them by only 3 at our place.

3/7: 74-55. Much like last week we jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Mick Morr had 18 and 10. 16, 4 for sub F/C Quin Barr. 8 TOs.

#7 seed Northern Illinois, 12-18, 7-11, in the semis. We won by 8 there.

Scouting Coach Jul Leis: Their only chance is to play the game inside as much as possible.

3/8: 79-69. The final was as close as it got after the first few minutes. We were in total control all night and led by as many as 27. 18, 4, 8 for Howe, 17 for More, 13, 8 for Barr. 11 TOs and we forced 23.

#2 seed Kent St, 23-8, 14-4, in the title game. They are listed as the home team, which is a mistake. We won by 9 at our place, lost by 13 there.

Scout Jul Leis: They press all night long. If we're able to break it and stop the three, we should be fine.

3/9: 90-74 and the title! Before we knew what was happening we were down 12-3, having committed 4 turnovers. I called a time out, reminded them of the game plan, reminded them of how we were supposed to break the press and sent them back out. We turned it around and were up 12 at the half, and by 20 early in the 2nd. 25, 9, 4 for Stry, 21, 3, 7 for Howe, 12, 11, 4 for Morr. +16 RBs.

Scot Nels hurt his back. He could miss our first tourney game. We'll see.

We're excited about where we'll go, how high we'll be seeded... We're 29-4, 16-2, #11, RPI #22. So maybe a #5 or so.

3/12: #4 West. Great seed! We play #13 Lipscomb, 21-11, from the Atlantic Sun. This is a team we should walk over.

Scot Nels is 100% so he'll play.

3/17: 85-64 and a 30 win season! 50-28 at the half. 19, 13 for Nels so he was definitely at 100%! 15, 13, 3 for Morr, 16, 9 for Rowl. Our big guys owned the inside. +20 RBs.

#24 ranked, #5 seed USC, 26-9, in the 2nd round.

Scout Jul Leis: They can play but we match up really well against them. Don't let their bench beat us, stop the three, and move without the ball on O.

3/19: 72-89. Ouch! We had 3 goals: 1. Don't let their bench beat us. Their bench: 32, 10, 4. Our bench: 16, 7, 5. Fail. 2. Stop the three: They were 3-12 so we succeeded with that one. 3. Move without the ball: 24 TOs, mostly because we did NOT move without the ball. And therefore, our season is over. We could have beaten this team, but not the way we played tonight.

Our first 4 guards are all graduating, and I think Mike Rowl is probably going to transfer out. He has not been happy here this season. That leaves us with only Nels, Morr, and Barr returning. We have some good guys coming in but I would think long and hard if I were to get a good offer.

4/3: #6 Michigan beat #3 Michigan ST for the title.

4/4: Awards: Ed Howe, Cris Stry, and Scot Nels make the Conf. 1st team.

4/9: Going to Georgia Tech. Terrific opportunity! They were 19-14 this season and they have some very good players coming back and a few good recruits coming in.

4/16: I like my coaching staff. We've been meeting daily as I introduce my system to them and talk about roles and how we'll do things. I think this is a good fit.

4/23: I ask for money. I get $12,000. I'll take it but the one problem here is we don't have the recruiting budget the top teams in the ACC have.

Great final season at Ohio, 30-5, #12. Overall in 2 seasons there: 52-15, .776. Pretty good. On to the new adventure!

5/1: #35 recruiting class.

When you move to a new school there's always the danger that a player or two will transfer out. Luckily no one did, but I have 3 players who aren't happy. I hope to win them over. We'll see. The stressor is that all 3 are guards, and good ones.

6/5: We have room for a transfer.

6/16: We get a PF from Tulsa who should help us.

6/26: Only one scholarship unless I cut someone.

7/11: I cut somebody.

8/7: PG Will Camm is #41 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to a PG and an SF.

Still unable to expand our base but we're making great progress in keeping the predators out, and beginning to see fewer insects.

The insect sterilization program took a while to figure out but we finally did. Given the short life span of most insects, a month can mean quite a few generations, so progress has been quick and should get quicker.

As to the predators, we printed LOTS of robotic guards and stationed them all around the periphery. They killed the predators as they broke through the barriers. This has served to discourage the predators from entering- not 100%, but close.

9/18: We get both recruits, PG #56, SF #57. The SF may or may not hit our SAT score so we're still courting big men.
Las Vegas Winter Jam and some good teams on the schedule.

10/2: I liked what I saw, especially at guard, in our first practice. We're picked to finish 5th in the ACC. I think we can do that but it's a tough conference.

It is clear that my guards are not happy. They're all young and I hope I can win some of them over. I'd hate to see more than one transfer out.

We have a group here in the colony that is very much into "pure living." They want to grow their own food, make everything they need... Frankly, I don't get it. The 3D printers can do all of that. Why make life harder than it has to be?

11/13: We have lots of home games and the Las Vegas Jam in our pre-conf. schedule. We hope to fatten up. We start tomorrow.

11/14: 63-51 over Penn ST here. Nice crowd. Not capacity but close, and they were very loud and very supportive. Center Al Witt had 14 and 10 in only 21 minutes. He was in foul trouble all night. We talked about it after the game. I need him in there. His back up, Jab Maye had 10 and 7 so we got a lot form the post. Good guard play, only 6 TOs. Our forwards didn't do much, and aside from Maye, our bench did nothing.

59-54 over #16 ranked Creighton here. Tonight we DID have a full house and they were behind us all the way. Good game, back and forth with tight D by both teams. 10, 16 for Witt, 14, 3 for Maye, 12, 4, 4 for SG Will Camm. Points have been hard to come by so far but we held Creighton to 29.5% shooting.

Lon Will pulled a groin muscle. Out for a week and a half or so. Maye will start.

The pure living crowd is demanding the right to build their own living and working quarters and to grow their own crops, all on their own and without the help of 3D printers or robots. We have enough land within the boundaries to allow this and the Council will allow it.

11/20: Our 2 recruits sign. That's a relief. I was worried about the SF.

11/21: 73-61 at Princeton. Camm had 21, 4, 4, Den Burr had 17, 7, 3 at SF, his first good game. We got a little more from the bench but Witt was invisible. It's always something, I suppose.

11/24: 69-59 at Hofstra. Will Camm had a solid 26 and 8. Witt played well on both ends. 11 TOs.

The pure living folks are working really hard, long, long days of hard physical labor. No sign that their resolve is weakening though. Some of our people think there may be a religious element involved.

There's not much religion here. Most people do very well without it. We'll see how big a factor it is with the PLs. It's their right, of course, unless they try to tell the rest of us how to live.

11/28: 77-55 over previously undefeated Nebraska here. 17, 14 for Witt. 17, 3, 5 for PG Mike Sona, his best game to date. 16, 3, 5 for Camm. 10, 6 for Maye; he's back to being our 6th man. He wants to start and he's playing really well, but I like the boost he gives us coming off the bench. I've explained that to him.

A week off until our next.

Little used back up Cris Hart hurt his foot. Day to day.

12/5: 60-74 to Baylor here. I HATE home losses! The locker room was not a pleasant place after the game. We fell asleep in the second half. We let them shoot 50%. 25 for Sona.

Al Witt hurt his hip. Out for about a week. The injury was a factor down the stretch in this game. Fortunately we're off for 8 days so Witt shouldn't miss any games.

The PLs (pure living) are still hard at work. We were right about the religious aspect. Their first completed building is a church/mosque/temple/meeting hall of some kind. They're not saying much to anyone not part of their group, but this is clearly a building designed for some kind of religious service or observation. Again, their business as long as they don't try to make it ours.

12/14: 77-62 over Georgia ST here. Only up by 1 at the half. Witt is very up and down; today he was down. We're working on consistency, but he's a freshmen and big men usually need time to develop. The other 4 starters and Maye all had really good nights, led by Sona with 20, 6, 7. He's playing really well lately.

Heading for the Las Vegas Winter Jam. We're the #2 seed. We play #7 Rutgers, 5-2.

12/16: 90-72. By far our best offensive performance of the season. 51 point 2nd half blew it wide open. 25 for Sona, 18, 13 for Witt, 18 for Camm.
10 TOs. The only negative was 25 fouls; Maye fouled out.

Scout Dan Flor: #3 seed ODU, 7-2, in the semis. They run a wide open O and like to put up threes. On D it's man and 3-2, and they press often.

12/17: 67-57. We led most of the way, but never by more than 10. 20, 7, 4 for Camm, 17, 15 for Witt. 6 TOs.

#5 seed ST Louis, 9-1, for the title. They're tough but we think we win if we play well.

Dan Flor: Very fast paced O, balanced attack. On D they play mostly 2-3, and they press.

Starting SF Den Burr has a stomach flu. He'll try to play. We'll see.

12/18: 77-82. Crappy D did us in. Most points we've given up all year, 8 more than in our only other loss. We faded late, at least partly due to foul trouble by Camm and Maye. The refs were awful. 20 fouls against us, 9 against them. They had 23 from the line, we had 9. One of the fouls was a late T against me. I'd had enough and the game was decided at that point. My first T here at Georgia Tech. The thing is that the bad calls ALL went against us and ALL came at critical times.

15, 12, 3 for Witt. 18 for Camm, 16, 3, 4 for Sona, 13, 8 for Will. 10 TOs. Burr didn't play much and didn't play well but the foul trouble made me use him more than I wanted to. I'm not happy, more with the 3 blind mice than with my team.

One more game before ACC play starts.

The PLs are now wearing plain grey unisex clothing.
