#14 Kansas State Wildcats (5-0) @ #9 Indiana Hoosiers (6-2)

Mike Morrison: This is a good matchup. The Wildcats D is awesome (52.8 ppg) while we do damage offensively (80 ppg), so we’ll see which predominates. We jumped out to a very early lead and then let the Wildcats move past us just 4 minutes into the game. We were unable to catch up until there were just 3 minutes remaining in the first half. At the half we led 31-26 due to some good D. In the 2nd half our defense was even stingier and we raced away leaving Kansas State in the dust. We finished with a 65-48 victory. Even though we made a disturbing 20 turnovers, we outshot the Wildcats 46% to 28% and were +12 on the boards. SF Chris Broussard—13 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl; PG Mike Williams—11 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast; SG Ray Richardson—11 pts, 4 ast; PF Brian Valdez—10 pts, 5 reb; C Marcus Wright—9 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast, 3 stl.

#13 Marquette Golden Eagles (7-1) @ #10 Indiana Hoosiers (7-2)

Ramon Montez: Marquette is the 2nd of 5 straight ranked opponents that we’re going up against in this portion of our season. Their only loss was to #2 ranked Duke. The Golden Eagles have given up just 56.5 ppg to their 8 opponents thus far this season. We came out and went for the jugular, taking a 14-4 lead after just 3 minutes of play. With our defense smothering Marquette, we extended our lead to 15 points with 11 minutes to go in the half. 4 minutes later we were up by 20 at 31-11. At halftime we held a 41-22 advantage. Our offense sputtered a bit in the 2nd half but we held onto our lead and won 71-51 by topping Marquette in all team stats. C Marcus Wright—12 pts, 6 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl; SG Jonte Edwards—10 pts, 5 reb; SG Ray Richardson—10 pts, 3 stl.
Injury: Reserve PF Chris Greenleaf injured his foot, but our athletic trainers feel he’ll be ready to play in our next game.

Mike McMillan, co-head coach

Due to the rapid and wide-spread transmission of Crozhan’s Disease throughout the United States and it’s devastating effects, the collegiate basketball season has been cancelled, effective immediately. Our entire team is distraught, but the government and our society have opted to take dramatic action, including this cancellation, as part of an overall effort to reduce infection and limit adverse effects as much as possible. A rumor had been rapidly circulating about this possibility so Terry, Ken, Ramon and I weren't suprised. We're sad though, but resigned to what’s become necessary to avoid America experiencing the contagion and deaths that came about during the Covid pandemic of over 25 years ago. We’re not yet sure exactly what each of us will do. For now we’ll hunker down for a while and give thought to our futures and possible new challenges. We’re each getting up in age anyway, so for at least a couple of us, our coaching days were numbered and our co-coaching experiment was about to end. It was a fun ride while it lasted.
