12/25: We end pre-conference play at 11-0. #3, NET #1.

We won a close one, 81-73, at Marquette. 28 and 10 for Herd, 19, 18 for Wolf. +18 RBs, +26 in the paint.

Next we came home and beat California 83-62. 17, 8, 3, 3 for Miro, 19, 8 for Herd, 14, 5 for Wolf. +22 in the paint.

Finally, we won 85-69 at NC ST. Jim Herd led us again with 25, 11, 3, 14, 11, 4, 3 for Miro. Wolf had an off night, fouling out in only 20 minutes. Sub Josh Buck had 14, 4, 5, 3. +16 RBs, +20 down low.

+15.1 PPG, #1 in both points and margin. +13.3 RBs, #2 in RBs, #1 in margin. -4.6 TOs but 12.9, which is too many. +4.2 steals.

Jim Heard leads us with an impressive 23.1 PPG and 10.2 RBs. Abe Wolf gets 16.5 and 9.6. Mal Miro gets 12.1 and 7.5.

I can't imagine there's a team that is stronger inside than we are.

1/8/2056: We win the first 4 conf. games.

First is a 90-70 win over Clemson here in College Park. 20, 14 for Herd, 21 for Stou, 13, 7 for Miro, 12, 7 for Wolf. +18 in the paint, 9 TOs.

80-52 at Michigan ST. How the mighty have fallen! 13, 10 for Herd, 4 others with 10 or more. +20 down low.

A huge win at Nebraska, 91-57. 34, 14 for Herd, 12, 19 for Wolf, 16, 3, 3 for Stou. +27 RBs, +28 in the paint.

And finally, 81-63 over Ohio ST here. 19, 7, 4 blocks for Miro, 14 and 14 for Herd, 13, 7 for Stou, 11, 6, 3 for Wolf. +13 RBs.

Wisconsin is also unbeaten and they're coming up soon.

Given how relaxed everything is life onboard the ship is going very smoothly. People are relaxing, spending free time in the holo, joining in the contests, games, musical and variety shows put on byt the rec. department. Life is good!

1/22: We're still undefeated and I now have 1001 wins! We'll talk about #1000 shortly.

89-77 at Michigan. 23, 4 for Miro, 18, 5 for herd, 12 each for Wolf and Ells. +18 inside.

71-59 at Clemson. They led for 30 minutes. Then we finally got it together. 17, 11 for Herd, 17, 7 for Wolf, 13, 12 for Miro. +18 in the paint but 23 TOs, which is why it was close.

#1000 happened in a very big game at home. We beat #3 ranked Wisconsin 84-63. It was tied at the half but we just exploded out of the gate in the 2nd. 20 and 9 for Miro, 17, 5 for Herd, 14, 3, 5 for Stou. +13 RBs, +30 in the paint. We expected a real war in this one and that was only the case for the first half.

I'm not particularly excited about win #1000. I have two coaching goals: 1. To win more titles than Wooden. 2. To win more games than Coach K. I need 5 titles for the former, 202 wins for the latter.

Then we beat Michigan ST for the 2nd time, 69-53. 14, 3, 4 for PG Ike West, 11, 9 for Miro, 12, 6 for Herd. Great bench play, 17, 4 for Buck, 11, 6, 4 for Stou. +21 RBs. We're turning it over way too much.

If I leave Maryland it might well be to bring Michigan ST back to glory, or possibly UConn or UCLA, one of my former title winning teams. We'll see...

1/29: Abe Wolf is #17, Mal Miro #30 on the Norton list. As happens so often they don't get it right. Our best player, Jim Herd, wasn't even nominated.

2/5: 4 more wins. Unless we have an off night I don't see anyone beating us in the regular season.

97-81 at Iowa. Our D wasn't very good tonight, especially in the 2nd half when we gave up 51! Of course, it was over by then. 29, 8, 4 blocks for Herd. 16, 13, 4 for Miro, 20, 3, 3 for Stou. +16 RBs, +16 inside.

102-76 over Purdue here. Still not thrilled with the D. 18, 14, 3 blocks for Herd, 16, 9 for Wolf, 17, 4, 3 for Stou, 14, 4 for Fick who deserves more minutes but I just don't have any to give him. 51 points for the bench. +30 down low, +16 RBs.

77-50 over Minnesota here. The D was great tonight. 20, 10 for herd, 13, 9 for Miro, 10, 10 for Wolf. + 26 inside, +17 RBs.

83-66 over Nebraska here. 27, 19 for Herd, 17, 11 for Miro, 13, 9 for Wolf. +40 in the paint, +20 RBs.

We're 23-0, 12-0, 2 game lead on Wisconsin. #1, NET #1.

The probe to our right says their sensors are picking something up but it's too far away to know what it is.

2/19: In our first game, a 72-62 win at Indiana, our best player, Center Jim Herd, strained a hamstring. He'll miss at least 2, maybe 3 games. That's a BIG injury for us. He had 19. 10, 4 steals, 4 blocks. 14, 6 for Miro. +20 inside. Indiana hung in there!

Ron Stou will start, but we'll shift our big men around.

Rutgers came here and got destroyed, 88-57. 18, 9, 4 for Miro, 20, 6 for Wolf, 16, 3, 5 for Stou. +28 inside, +19 RBs.

We beat Purdue there, 85-73. 18, 10 for Wolf, 15, 7 for Miro, 20 for Stou. +32 in the paint.

80-70 at Ohio ST. 21, 5, 4 blocks for Stou, 20, 7 for Fick. This was close for 38 minutes.

Still 2 up on #3 Wisconsin, 4 up on 2 teams, 7 or more up on the rest.

Herd will be back for our next game.

The probe says what they're seeing is some kind of space rocks, or that's what it looks like. The rocks are quite large.

3/4: And we finish the regular season undefeated.

75-30 over #24 Illinois here. I can't believe we held ANY team to 30, let alone a ranked team! They shot 18.8%, 4-20 on threes. 17, 7 for Herd in his first game back. +18 RBs.

93-80 at Minnesota on a night when the D wasn't very good at all. 27, 13 for Herd, 14, 3, 5 for West. +32 in the paint.

84-69 over Iowa here. 27, 13, 4 for Herd, 17, 9 for Miro, 12, 3, 8, 3 for Ells. +20 inside, +17 RBs. 11 TOs.

And finally, 79-57 at #20 Penn ST. It was close for almost 30 minutes. 27, 8 for Herd, 13, 9 for Miro. +20 inside.

3/5: Jim Herd, Mal Miro, and litle used frosh guard Mal Tane go pro. Not surprising but not great. There's really no one that we want in the recruit pool. We'll hope to land some transfers.

31-0, 20-0, 3 up on #3 Wisconsin, 5 on #24 Illinois, 7 on #20 Penn ST.

+18.4 PPG, +13.6 RBs, -4.3 TOs, but 14.0. If we don't win it all, turnovers will be the reason.

Herd leads us with 21.2 and 10.2.

3/8: We play #8 seed Iowa, 16-14, 9-11. We beat them by 16 and 15. If we play well we beat them easily.

3/9: We take an early lead. They're staying close. 45-37 at halftime. 16, 8 for Herd, 13 for Miro. Up 19 with 10 to go.

86-64. Big game for Herd, 33 and 14. 17, 3 for Miro, 10, 4, 3, 3 for Buck. +14 in the paint, +12 RBs, 11 TOs.

Ron Stou hurt his hand. He'll get limited minutes for the rest of this tourney.

3/10: All the favorites won so we face #4 seed, #22 ranked Penn ST, 23-9, in the semifinals. We won by 22 there last week. If we play well we should be fine.

Game time: Early lead. Then it becomes a big lead. 50-34 at the half. We're having no trouble scoring. 13, 7 for Wolf, 10, 4 for Miro. Only 4 TOs. We're in full control in the 2nd half.

83-66 but it wasn't that close. 22, 12, 4 blocks for Herd, 16, 11, 3 blocks for Wolf, 17, 6 for Miro.

The probes send us video and still photos, as I've mentioned in the past. The probe to our right was sending video of the space rocks when suddenly the probe just exploded. We're sending another probe.

3/11: As expected we face #2 seed, #3 ranked Wisconsin, 30-3, in the Big 10 title game. We beat them by 19 at home. They are favored by 1 ½. They are very good outside but we are better inside. They play very good D, although we scored 84 against them. That game was tied at the half then we took charge early in the 2nd. We expect a tough game!

Game time: Very close. Down 4 after 10. 40-42 at the half. Both teams' starting Cs have 3 fouls. 15 for Herd. Up 2 with 15 left. Down 12 with 10 to play after they go on a run.

70-75 and our first loss of the season. It may cost us the #1 overall seed.

24, 7 for Herd but no one else did much. +18 in the paint. The difference was 7 threes for them, 1 for us. Their guards completely outplayed ours.

3/12: #1 East, #1 overall. We start with Longwood, 20-13.

3/16: Big early lead. Up 11 after 10. 45-29 at the break. 12, 7 for Herd, 11, 6 for Miro. We put this one to bed early.

87-50. 16, 10 for Herd, 13, 12, 3 for Wolf, 17, 9 for Miro, 17, 6 for West. +22 RBs, 10 TOs.

The new probe is almost close enough to the space rocks to see them clearly.
