11/18: We come out cold- 1-12. Up 9 after 10; we heated up. Up 11 at halftime. Up 18 with 1`0 left. Akpo is playing really well.

79-58. Easy win. 19, 18 with 6 blocks for Akpo. 17, 8 for Jon Blen, 14, 1, 5 for Tim Smid. +14 RBs, 11 TOs. We held them to 28.3% from the floor while we shot 49.3%. +30 in the paint.

All 4 lower seed won so it's #2 seed Indiana, 2-0, in the semifinals. They're favored by 2 1/2. They have an excellent PG, but honestly, Smid has been playing great and he just might be able to match this guy. They have an excellent D and that's going to be a problem. We'll need to find the open player. And we definitely will need to stop the three; they shoot an amazing 45.5% from back of the line. Of course, that's based on only two games.

They are TOUGH inside. In short, we're looking at a challenge.

That big, shiny object object way at the limits of our sensor range is still too far away for us to draw any conclusions other than it's huge and it's very bright.

11/19: We're holding our own. Tied after 10. We're turning it over too much but we're rebounding well. Up 5 at the midpoint. Mini-run puts us up 8 after 30 min.

89-75. We closed STRONG! 16, 10, 4 for Blen, 15, 12 for Akpo, 13, 4 for Hart, and our 4th big had 10. Solid inside!

+11 RBs, but 16 TOs. We won it from the line, 35-39 to 13-19. They took 17 more shots from the floor and made 5. We made two more threes than they did.

Backup SG Sam Rock hurt his back. Out for a week.

Ranked! #19. We play #1 seed, #12 ranked North Carolina, 3-0, for the title. This looks like a real challenge. We score more points but their D is really good. We thought that about Indiana and we lit them up, so let's see what happens. We feel like we should control the boards and we'll need to!

11/20: We score the first 7 points. Get a quick double digit lead. Up 13 after 10. 45-25 at the half! We're on fire! Up 20 with 10 to play.

80-63 and the tourney title! We were excellent, especially on D.

19, 12 for Akpo, who is the genuine article. 11, 14, 3 for Hart in the middle. Smid had 15 and outplayed his highly touted opponent. All 5 starters had at least 11.

An amazing +21 on the boards. 14 TOs. +12 on 2nd chances.

What a great trip to Hawaii. We stayed an extra day to play on the beach.

It's way too early but Tafa Akpo is #4 on the Norton Watch.

1-1 Miami (Ohio) at our place. They have a very good SG. He can score! We feel like we're definitely the better team, WAY better on the boards.

11/22: They take an early lead. Tied after 10. Big run! Up 18 at the half. Up 28 with 10 left.

77-55. 16, 10, 3 for Jon Blen, 14, 5, 6 for Hal Huss. We held them to 32.1%, about the same on threes. We shot 46% and took 7 more shots. +18 in the paint.

I thought we'd be good but we are exceeding my expectations.

We had a standing room only crowd and they were LOUD!

Next up is Eastern Washington, 1-1. They play good D but have trouble scoring. Their SF is their go to. We feel like we can turn them over.

The big shiny object is gaining some definition. The object is about the size of Neptune and VERY bright, sort of like the tiny bright object we encountered some time ago. We want to stay far away but send a probe to learn what we can. It will be some time until we get close enough to launch a probe. The probe should be close enough to do some research by mid-June.

11/25: Takes us a while to wake up. Up 3 after 10. Up 5 at the half. We held their top gun to 7 in the 1st. Up 11 with 10 to play.

84-64, and their leading scorer wound up with just 7. 24, 9 for Akpo, most of them in a red hot 2nd half. 12, 7, 7 for Huss, most of those in the 1st half. Solid bench play.

+10 RBs. We shot 48.3% to 39.6%. 9-0 on 2nd chances. Another easy win.

It was a costly win, our excellent 6th man, F/C Nat Sims broke his hand. Out until mid- to late January. Cole Shyn will get his minutes.

Next up is Nevada, 2-1, here. They're are very good outside and their SG can score. Their D is shaky though. If we stop the three and rebound we should be okay but this team is capable of surprising us.

11/29: We take an early lead. Up 12 after 10. Akpo is on fire again. Up 26 at the half; shooting nearly 70%. Up 25 with 10 left. Their got o guy has 3.

85-63. Another laugher. 23, 9 for Akpo, who shut down his man. 7 others had between 7 and 9. Shyn played well in his new role of first big guy off the bench.

+13 RBs. 50% from the floor and 8 threes.

New Mexico ST, 2-2, is here next, then a rematch with North Carolina. NM ST has a very good PF and a solid bench. They are among the lowest scoring teams in Div. I, and their D is mediocre. This is a game we should win.

Be careful about chasing bright shiny objects.

12/2: We're flat. Down 2 after 10. I try to wake them up. Down 6 at the half. We were down a dozen. Down 8 with 10 left. We're not playing. We Double OT!

98-101. Frankly, we deserved to lose this one but this is NOT a game we should have lost. They'll be hearing about this!

We had 7 who scored between 11 and 15, but they had an extra 10 minutes to do it in. We let their SG, who is not that good, score 29; the rest of their starters had between 16 and 11.

They won it at the line, 25-34 to 11-18. We missed a free throw near the end of regulation and another one near the end of the first OT, so we blew it twice.

They collapsed their D around Akpo, holding him to 7 shots.

It doesn't get easier, #10 North Carolina, 5-3, is here next. We beat them by 17 to win the Hawaiian Shootout so they'll be out for blood. We won that game inside, +21 RBs.

Rebounding will be the key again, and we have to contain their SG, who can light it up.

We're now 7-1. We drop form #12 to #13.

That huge bright object has an incredible amount of radioactivity. We are already maneuvering to steer a path as far from it as possible. We have shields but this degree of radiation would at least partially penetrate those shields and could damage them.

12/6: Well, we're at least awake early on but they're tough. Tied after 10. Up 12 at halftime. The SG is scoring but we're stopping everyone else. We're killing them inside. Up 11 with 10 left. Hart is really playing well!

74-59. We led for the last 28 minutes and it was never in doubt in the 2nd half.

24, 8, 4 for Flip Hart, and 17, 10 for Akpo. Both played terrific D! The team played great D, aside from the SG (22), no one had more than 9.

+8 RBs, but 18 TOs, which does NOT make me happy. But we owned the paint. We're missing Nat Sims but he's out for another 5 weeks or so.

We don't have a huge challenge before PAC-12 play, but hopefully NM ST taught us that we can't just show up.

Next up is UC-Irvine, 0-5, here. I always worry about a team that is winless. They are DESPERATE, and that can make them tough.

They don't score much, and their D has not been very good. If we play our game we'll be fine but I'm chirping about "You look like a bunch of zombies!"
