Headed for the Palmetto Shootout. We're the #1 seed and start with #8 seed Western Michigan, 1-1. They're strong outside but they give up 85.5 per game!

11/25: We take an early lead. 38-28 at the half; we're playing very good D.

72-54. They never threatened us. 26, 3 for Dean. We controlled the paint.

11/26: #4 seed Missouri, 3-1, in the semis. We are heavily favored.

Game time: They lead early. Down 3 after 10. A late run puts us up 49-34 at halftime. 15, 4, 4 for Wamp. We quickly get the lead to 20. Up 23 with 10 to go.

96-74 and an easy win. 17, 5, 9 for Wamp, 16, 6 for Dean, 14, 8 for C Fern Rhod. Big edge inside and 10 TOs. This is a much more guard oriented team that is usual for me.

11/27: #3 seed, #7 ranked Syracuse, 5-0, for the title. We're a big fav but they just easily beat #3 ranked Villanova. We think we should control the boards.

We're ranked #4 before the game.

Game time: We score the first 9 points. Up 14 after 10. 45-26 at the half. 15 for Rhod, 12 for Wamp. We're owning the inside but Rhod has 3 fouls. Up 18 with 10 to play.

83-71 but it wasn't that close. 17, 7, 7 for Wamp, 17, 4 for Rhod, +17 RBs.

Joe Zinn hurt his knee but it's minor. He'll play fewer minutes in our next game.

We continue to travel through space with nothing showing from any of our probes, so things are peaceful. I continue to play the piano, and I spend more time learning to be a “corner man” in boxing. I find it fascinating. I still really like my job as the head of the Statistics Department, and obviously, I am still coaching.

12/7: 84-63 blowout over #6 North Carolina here. 48-23 at the half. 20, 1, 7 for Wamp, 14 each for Rhod, Dean and sub C/F Ike Davy.

92-69 at #21 San Diego ST. 51-32 at the half. 28, 2, 6 for Dean, 19, 8, 6 for Wamp, 15, 8 for Rhod. We owned the paint.

A huge win over then #1 Memphis, 81-57 here. Once again we started strong, led by 14 at the half. 23, 6, 3, 5, 3 for Dean, 13, 7, 6 for Wamp. Pretty even inside but 13 TOs to their 29.

We are now ranked #1, NET #1.

'Something weird is going on, Jed.”

“What do you mean, Hali?”

“We've been together for 25 years or so. You were 46, now you're 71... But you haven't aged. Oh sure, you look older, though not 71, but you have the same energy you had 25 years ago. It doesn't work that way. What am I missing?”

“I don't know what to tell you, Hali. I guess maybe I'm one of those lucky people who ages slowly.”

“It's not possible to age this slowly. There's something I don't understand here. I'm 56 and you have WAY more energy than I do and you barely sleep.”

“Everybody is different, Hali. I can't really explain it either. I'm just lucky, I suppose.”

“Mm...”

I knew this day would come. And yes, she's slowing down and I'm not. I have no idea how to explain that this is actually not reality, but rather my afterlife.
Does that make Hali and everyone else not real? Can I actually end this or restart it somehow? The day may be coming when I need to try to find out...

12/25: 74-55 over #4 Villanova here. Up only 2 at halftime but 46-29 in the 2nd. The D won this one, our O was kind of sluggish. We're tired. They shot 31.3%.

84-62 over Baylor here. We led all the way. 17, 6, 4, 3 for Marn, 19, 6 for Dean, 12, 3, 8 for Wamp. We controlled the inside.

The undefeated run ends at 10. 65-79 at #23 Xavier. They led by as many as 22 and we were never really in it. Wamp had 25, but an unacceptable 10 TOs. I sat him three different times but it didn't change anything. We shot 33.8% and had 21 TOs. They outplayed us inside and outside.

They don't pay me to go undefeated. I will be referring to this game for the rest of the season when the guys need a wake up or a re-focus.

We end pre-conf. play at 10-1, #1, NET #2 behind Wisconsin, our old nemesis.

+16.7 PPG, +9.1 RBs, #1 in RBs, -4.6 TOs but an awful 13.8. +6.6 assists. 2nd in blocks, 3rd in PPG, 5th in assists.

17.4 PPG for Ed Dean, 15.6 for Mal Wamp. Joe Zinn gets 8.3 RBs, sub Ike Davy gets 7.1. 6.5 assists for Wamp, but he turns it over 4.0, which is not good.

I'm wondering why everyone I know isn't talking about all MY energy and slow aging

1/5/2067: 73-57 at Iowa. We led all the way. 6 players had 9, 10, or 11 points. +18 in the paint, 11 TOs to 23.

85-67 over Purdue here. Up 20 at the half. 34, 8 for Center Fern Rhod. 16, 6, 7 for PG Mal Wamp. 17, 3 for sub guard Isi Mila. +24 RBs but 18 TOs.

83-55 over #8 Illinois here. Up 23 at halftime. 23, 4, 5 for SG Ed Dean, 14, 2, 11 for Wamp. +15 RBs.

98-75 over #3 Wisconsin here. Unusual for us to win easily against them; they usually give us fits. Only up 5 at the half but we went on a big run early in the 2nd and never looked back. 7 guys had good numbers. Big edge inside.

The last guy on the depth chart, Ed Gely, hurt his calf. He's day to day.

“Really, Jed, what's going on?”

“There's nothing I can say other than the fact that I exercise every day and eat a healthy diet. I must have really good genes.”

“I think it's more than that.”

1/22: 72-65 in a close one at Minnesota. 14 lead changes, 7 ties, and the margin was never greater than 9. We scored the last 6 points. Rhod, Dean, and Wamp led the way on O. Sub C/F Ike Davy had 16 and 3 before getting hurt. He sprained a wrist and is out for about a week and a half. Whit Chat will get his minutes.

73-61 at Maryland. We led by as many as 19 late in the game. 19, 6, 7 for Wamp, 16, 4, 4, 3 for Dean.

96-80 over #21 Indiana here. Down 2 at the half, and 6 early in the 2nd before we woke up. 23, 8 for Rhod, , 17, 3, 11 for Wamp. Good inside play.

82-64 at Nebraska. We led all they way. 27, 8, 3 for Dean, 12, 7, 10 for Wamp. Big advantage inside.

18-1, 8-0, 1 game lead on 2 teams, 2 games over 2 other teams. #1, NET #1.

There's something in the sites of the probe at 8 o'clock. Too soon to say what but it's small and looks artificial.

2/7: 69-58 at Rutgers. We led all the way but never by more than 13. 25, 5 for Dean. 10 TOs and solid inside play.

79-64 over Iowa here. It was close for nearly 30 minutes, then a 15-2 run broke it open. 21, 5 for Dean, 18, 6 for Rhod. Big edge in the paint.

81-67 at Purdue. We led all the way again. 26, 8, 3 for Dean, 16, 11, 3 for Zinn, 18, 3 for Rhod.

94-75 over Ohio ST here. No challenge. 27, 2, 5, 5 for Dean, 16, 3, 12 for Wamp. 11 TOs to 24.

22-1, 12-0, 3 game lead over 3 teams in the Big 10. #1, NET #1. 8 to play.

Mal Wamp is #6 on the Norton list, Ed Dean #8, Fern Rhod #22.

The object seen by the probe is some kind of satellite. We're heading toward it to investigate.
