4/4: Awards: Ed Dean was NCAA tourney MOP. It should have been Wamp. Dean is a 2nd team All American. I am national COY.

In the Big 10 Dean is Frosh OY and 1st team. Wamp, Rhod, and Zinn make the 2nd team. I am Conf. COY.

4/9: Not looking to move but you never know!

Kansas is interested. Hm...

I'm staying. Hoping to pick up a guard or 2 in the transfer pool.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade.

No.

38-2, national title. Overall, for 43 seasons, 1389-256, .844. So most wins ever, most titles ever, highest winning % ever. Not bad! I'd like to get one more title.

5/1: Preseason #1. #3 recruiting class. We have only 3 guards on the roster.

5/29: We lose a guard and 3 forwards. Only F/C Joe Zinn would have played but it's a lot of people. We're down to 7 guys, 2 guards.
So 6 to try to get from the transfer portal, 3 guards.

Round 1: We offer to a guard who has us in his top 5; he's a B; we offer to 2 other Bs, a PG and a C, an unrated SG, PF and C.

We get the B PG. He could start.

Round 2: We offer to 4 Bs and a C (Alex-C).

We get all of them.

6/25: We will go to Indy and all the regionals.

6/26: 3 scholarships. We need guards.

6/28: We are at the outer edge of the planet's solar system. No signs of life, and no one coming out to attack or threaten us. Pretty quiet so far.

7/5: We're at the planet. It's a nightmare of destruction and devastation. Hard to believe anyone is alive down there. We're sending robots down.

7/9: Robots have been all over the planet. Nothing but destruction and no signs of life.

7/15: Three people sent down to the spots where the robots found things worth examining, but all of those things are partially to mostly damaged.

7/22: We rally couldn't salvage enough to make any sense of either how these people lived, or what happened to them. Too bad. The satellite made it clear they were a sophisticated civilization that was attacked and destroyed but we have no meaningful details.

Our best guess is that they were about where humans were 100 years ago, able to send things into space but not yet possessing the sophisticated technology needed to tell their story more fully.

8/7: 5 on the Norton list: PF Dale Lazo is #2, PG Jam Rood #10, PG Isi Mila #36, C Calo Haya #44, and C Ken Jeso #45.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs and an SG.

Back in interstellar space.

9/18: We get our top 2, #1 overall PG, #13 overall SG. The other guy is close to committing.

Preseason NIT vs. New Mexico ST. All ranked teams in pre-conf play, 8 in conf.

9/25: Got the last one, a PG, #34.

10/2: 1st day of practice. I think we have a chance to fourpeat!

11/12: Here's the lineup:

Senior Jam Rood, who was a 3 year starter at North Carolina, is at PG. We're excited to have him.

Senior Art Froz is at SG.

#3 guard is senior Isi Mila, who could start. #4, soph Cory Gill, is a great ball handler. #5, soph Jab Sess needs work on defense.

Junior Pete Alex, who started at Duke last season, is at SF. Tough defender.

Frosh Dale Lazo, at PF, is our best player.

Junior Calo Haya comes to us from North Carolina. He does everything well.

First big man off the bench is junior Fern Rhod who got bumped from a starting position. Junior Whit Chat can play. Finally, soph Ken Jeso, from UConn is good at lots of things.

We're good, we're deep, we're preseason #1!

11/13: #1 seed in the NIT. We play #16 New Mexico ST.

11/14: We jumped out to a big early lead then they came back a little. Up 9 after 10, then a big run. 50-28 at the half. 16 for Froz. Big edge inside. We take total control in the 2nd half.

96-71. 25, 9, 4 for frosh PF Dale Lazo in his first game. 22, 3, 3 for Froz. We dominated inside.

Next up #9 seed Utah ST in the quarter finals. I don't think they have the talent to stay with us.

11/15: Slow start. We take our first lead after 6 ½ minutes. And it's back and forth. 43-37 at halftime. C Calo Haya was in foul trouble throughout and wound up with three for the half. Starting guards combined for 28. We were outplayed inside. We break it open in the second.

97-74. 19, 2, 11 for SG Jam Rood, 21, 5, 3, 5 for Froz, 19, 6, 5 for Lazo, who looks like the real thing! We controlled the paint in the 2nd. -10 TOs.

#5 seed, #18 ranked Baylor in the semis. Their strength is their D but they have trouble scoring. If we can light it up as we did in our first two games we should be fine.

11/17: They open with a 3 and we score the next 14. We open up a huge lead. 47-32 at the half. Lazo has 19 and 6; he can play! +18 in the paint, only 4 turnovers. We come out flat in the second. Up 15 with 10 to go.

94-82. They got it to 8, at which point I called a TO and did some yelling and made some adjustments. I was NOT happy with our 2nd half play!

30, 11, 4, 5, 4 for Lazo. 16, 4, 5 for Froz, 19 for Hays.+16 in the paint, 10 fewer TOs.

It's #4 ranked, #2 seed Xavier in the title game. Their SF is their best player. They rebound well and score lots of points. We'll need to play well.

11/19: We score the first 23! 42-23 at the break. 13 for sub guard Isi Mila. We own the paint. No contest in the 2nd.

77-53. 17, 14, 5 blocks for tourney MOP and national Frosh of the Week Dale Lazo. 18 for Froz.

I've made up my mind that this is my last season as a head coach. I've been spending more and more time in the boxing gym and liking it more and more. I'm going to see how I do as a boxing manager/trainer after the season ends. No doubt some day i'll come back to coaching but I need a break.

Remember to tell your boxers to be unpredictable, both on offense and defense.

12/4: We start this four game set with an easy 83-55 home win vs. West VA. 21, 6, 10, 3 for Lazo, 25 for Froz. That one-two punch is really serving us well! +30 in the paint, 15 fewer TOs.

Next came our first challenge of the season, a 69-65 win at Syracuse. They led early then we took over, leading by as many as 10, but they got it to one late, and twice got it to 2. Lazo had his first off night, 9 and 8, mostly due to foul trouble. Froz led us with 15, 4, 4, 8 steals. We shot only 36.7%, and barely held our own inside. This is the kind of game we will learn from.

We got back on track with a 77-49 win over #5 Duke here. 21, 17 for Lazo, 15 for sub C/F Fern Rhod. Huge edge inside.

Starting SF Pete Alex strained a hammie and is out for awhile. I was going to replace him with Rhod but we could use his bench play, which we won't have for awhile.

We closed out this 4 game set with a 75-55 win over Gonzaga here. The game was never close. 15 each for Lazo and Froz, 11, 4, 5 for PG Jam Rood, 12, 6 for
Rhod in his debut as a starter. +24 inside.

The ship is travelling through an area of space with lots of space rocks and navigation is tricky. We've been through this before and the navigators are being very cautious.

12/25: 88-54 over #13 North Carolina here. 24, 15, 4 for Lazo, 20, 4, 6, 4 for Froz. Very strong inside play.

95-61 over #4 Xavier here in another game that was never close. 15, 16, 3 for Lazo, 21, 2, 6 for Froz, 19, 5, 7 for Rood. We owned the inside.

107-81 in a poor defensive effort over Kona here. 19, 4, 11 for Froz, 20, 5, 3 for C Calo Haya, 16, 5 for Lazo.

We closed out pre-conference play with a 91-62 win over Villanova here. 21, 8, 3, 4 blocks for lazo. Very good guard play. Only 6 TOs, +24 in the paint.

We're #1 in the country, #1 in PPG, #1 in Assists, #3 in NET Rating. +23.9 PPG, +7.8 RBs, -6.9 TOs.

Jam Rood leads the nation in assists. Lazo is #2 on the Norton list.

We're 12-0.
