Way Back When

3/12: #2 Midwest! We play #15 seed Grambling, 19-11. They have a couple of injuries and they give up lots of points.

I like this bracket. If we play well we can make some noise!

3/16: We take an early lead. Up 7 after 10. A late run puts us up 45-25 at halftime. +9 for the bench. +16 in the paint. Only 4 turnovers.

We're running away with it in the 2nd.

95-62. 16, 11 for Qual, 17, 4, 3 for Topp. +20 for the bench. Dominant inside.

It's #10 seed Anal Roberts, 18-11, in Round 2. This should be an easy game, most likely our last one!

3/18: Early lead again. Up 19 after 10 and coasting. I'm working to keep my guys focused. 43-21 at the break. 12 for Qual, 11 for Flin. +16 inside.

75-48. 22, 9 for Qual, 20, 6, 3 for Topp, 13, 3, 5 for Flin. +26 in the paint, 13 fewer TOs.

Sub C/F Fred Robb hurt his hand. He's day to day.

We're 34-0 and it won't be easy from here on. This is our 6th straight Sweet 16. We face #13 ranked, #3 seed Arkansas, 25-10. They are solid at all 5 positions with a decent bench. We score more and give up fewer but they can rebound and they can definitely play. 7-3 vs. ranked opponents, including the last 6.

3/23: We take a quick lead. They come back. Up 2 after 10. 33-31 at the half in a real war. +8 for the bench is the difference. They're in some fouil trouble up front. We have a slight edge inside. This one could go down to the wire!

Up 2 with 10 to play.

71-67! We were 10-4 at the end. 26 and 6 for C Cal Will, a huge game! 12, 6, 5 for Qual. +8 for the bench. We won it inside.

On to the Elite Eight, which is as far as we've ever gone. We face #1 seed, #5 ranked Kansas, 29-5. On paper we're in trouble. They are very good. They are led by their SF, who gets 18.4 and 8.8. We will need to play our very best game.

3/25: Back and forth early. Up 2 after 10. 39-44 at the half. Unusual but Qual is being outplayed. His man has 17, 6, he has 4 and 1. Not good! Will is playing really well in the middle and Flin is scoring. We're losing in the paint, -12. We need to make some changes and we need to execute better all over the court.

Uh oh! They get the lead to double digits quickly and then go on a big run. It's not going to happen tonight.

69-93. OUCH!!! They were WAY better, and absolutely controlled the 2nd half.

Will had 15 and 7, Flin had 13, 5, 3. Qual was in over his head for the first time all season.

Oh well, 35-1, Elite Eight. Not bad! We're losing some good players though- Qual, Topp, and 6th man Pat Dunn. The question is, stay or leave. Have I taken CCSU as far as I can or should I try my luck in Conf. F? Food for thought.

Congress refuses to ratify the Treaty of Versailles. Not a surprise but a huge defeat for ailing President Wilson. Wilson is never seen any more which leads to all sorts of speculation regarding his health.

4/3: #3 West Virginia is the national champ.

4/4: Awards: Marq Qual is Conf. POY and 1st team. Mal Flin is Def. POY and 1st team. Cal Will also makes the 1st team. Glen Topp makes the 2nd team. I am Conf. COY.

4/9: Some exceptional schools are calling... I'm staying.

4/23: I ask for $.

No.

35-1, Elite Eight. Overall, I'm 537-90, .856. Pretty good!

I'm stopping this association here for now so that when it becomes possible to move it to the 2023 edition I'll be able to do that on May 1.

5/1: #39 recruiting class.

5/29: I lose 3 transfers. They were all good players but none were likely to be starters.

6/12: We get a guard and 2 bigs. They'll all help us and one of the bigs will start.

The Republicans nominate Warren Harding for President.

6/26: We have 3 scholarships to give. We need 2 guards, one big.

The Democrats nominate James Cox for President.

7/31: Recruiting is progressing well.

Sadly, lynchings continue throughout the South.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs and a PF.

The National Football League is founded.

8/26: The 19th Amendment is ratified, giving women the right to vote.

9/18: We think we're getting close with the 3 recruits we offered to.

We have a schedule. More home games than road games.

We get a PG, our #1 at #78. We're close with the other 2.

A bomb on Wall ST kills 38, injures 400.

10/2: We get the other 2 recruits, a PG, #93, and a PF, #176.

11/3: Warren Harding is elected President.

11/13: We have a lineup:

Senior Mal Flin starts at the Point again. He may be our best player.

Senior Tony Larn is back at SG. We want him to score more points.

#3 guard is junior Jay Mahn. He has looked very good in practice. Frosh Vic Sull is the next guard; we expect him to be a starter down the road. Soph Joe Tart can play and he'll fight for minutes.

Junior Don Smey is at SF.

Junior Cal Will returns at PF.

Soph Deek Wams, who started at FL ST last season, is in the middle. We have high hopes and expectations for him.

1st big man off the bench will be junior Mura Suji, who could start. Senior Ed Leis is a good player who has never gotten minutes. Frosh Vern Smit is the last off the bench. He's not ready yet but has potential.

11/27: We start off 4-0. 2 home, 2 away, none close.

Center Deek Wams leads us with 21.8 and 8.0; he has been a force. 16.5 and 5.5 for Cal Will at PF, and 11.8 for Tony Larn at SG.

+22.2 PPG, +7.3 RBs. Looking good so far!

12/18: Still unbeaten, 8-0. Haven't had a single digit game yet.

16 points and 6.8 for Wams, 15.4, 6.5 for Will, 11.5 for Larn, 11.0 for PG Mal Flin.

+24.4 PPG, +9.5 RBs. -8.5 TOs but 14.1 are too many. +7.9 Assists.

1/22: We win our first 4 Conf F games, none of them are close.

We're alone in 1st place at this early stage, 1 game up on 4 teams.

We break into the rankings at #25, NET #26.

We and Michigan ST are the only undefeated teams left in Div. I.
