3/22: #1 seed, #1 ranked Kentucky, 27-5, is next. This is the best team I have ever faced as a coach. They're the best team in the country.

We can only hope to play an outstanding game while they play a subpar game.

3/23: We fall behind quickly. Down 12 after 10. They are big and quick. 49-57 at halftime. Neither side is playing defense. They are shooting 56.8% to our 53.3%. Their SG has 3 fouls, but their PG, their best player, has 19! Down 15 with 10 to go. We simply cannot stop their offense.

95-81. They were simply too good. We played well on offense but again, we could not stop them. 16, 12 for Gard, 17, 7, 3 for Qual. We actually played better inside, +16 in the paint, +11 rebounds. But -12 turnovers.

Oh well, it was a very good season!

4/2: Pres. Wilson asks Congress for a declaration of war against Germany.

4/3: #5 Wisconsin is the champion.

4/4: Awards: I am SHOCKED to be named national coach of the year!

In Conf. R Ike Gard is POY and Def. POY. Marq Qual is Frosh OY, and I get the coaching award. Gard, Qual, Kent Webb, and Hege Pefo all make the first team.

4/6: The U. S. declares war on Germany.

4/9: I do not expect to leave CCSU. Team Prestige moves up to 23.

Some very good teams call and send telegrams. I ignore them.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade.

No. 33-3, round of 16. Overall, for 16 years, 437-85, .837.

We will definitely skip some conferences.

9/18: We lose the PG, offer to another one.

Coaches Classic vs. Utah ST. Somewhat challenging schedule.

9/20: Honus Wagner retires at age 43.

9/25: We lose another one.

10/2: Got a PG, #93.

First day of practice. We're going to be good again, especially inside.

10/15: Mata Hari executed as a spy.

10/27: 20,000 women march for suffrage in New York.

The “Missouri Waltz” is a hit song, as is “Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh.”

11/11: Here's the lineup:

Frosh Tony Larn is at the Point. He moves the ball well and plays very good defense.

At SF is soph Pat Dunn, who started for Mississippi last season. He looks like a good one.

#3 guard is juco junior Joey Mell. His defense needs work. #4 is soph Omar Ware who has not developed so far. Hank Wrin, a frosh, is next. He shows promise.

Soph Glen Topp starts at SF. Hw has upped his game considerably this year and looks quite good.

Soph Marq Qual is back at PF. He may be our best player.

Junior Hege Pefo moves to C. He looks very good.

First big man off the bench is juco junior Ben Hamm who is almost good enough to start. #2, senior Kip Jonz, started for 3 years at Auburn but has not been as impressive as expected in practice. Frosh Mike Rain is going to be a good one. Finally, we have frosh Jon Pell, who also shows potential.

We are loaded inside but a bit thin in the back court.

11/12: We're the #12 seed in the Coaches Classic and face #5 seed Utah ST. There is not much to go on but we think we can beat this team.

11/13: Up 11 after 10. 43-26 at the half. 10, 9 for Marq Qual. Solid control inside. We're running away with ut. Up 25 with 10 left.

72-55. 15, 14, 4 blocks for Qual. 13, 4, 3, 4 blocks for SG Pat Dunn. Big edge inside.

11/14: It's #4 seed Indiana in the quarter finals. We're a strong favorite. We think we're better inside.

Civil War in Russia. The Bolsheviks under Lenin seize power. His lieutenants are Trotsky and Stalin.

In the U. S. suffragists in several prisons are physically assaulted by guards.

Balfour, in England, announces support for a state of Israel in Palestine.

11/15: We take the lead quickly. Up 9 after 10. 51-31 at the half; we're crushing them so far. 24-2 in the paint. Up 22 with 10 to play.

86-74, but it wasn't that close. They narrowed the gap during garbage time. 15, 3, 3, 3, 4 for Dunn, 14, 9, 4 for Qual, 4 others scored 11 or
more. +24 in the paint.

11/16: It is #12 ranked, #1 seed Kansas in the semifinals. #1, 2, and 3 all advance. We are the only upset winners. Kansas is an overwhelming favorite; their defense is excellent, and they lead the nation in rebounding at this early stage.

Clemenceau becomes Prime Minister in France.

11/17: They take the lead right away. Down 6 after 10. They are tough! 35-32 at the half but 2 starters with 3 fouls each; they have 1. +10 for our bench. We're definitely competing! They quickly take the lead in the second half. Down 6 with 10 to go.

65-73. We were competitive most of the way but they shut down our offense late in the game. Our defense was fine. 12, 10, 3 for Qual, 12, 3, 8 for Dunn. +17 for our bench. We were slightly outplayed inside. TOs were essentially even. But they blocked an astounding 18 shots!
We blocked 5.

12/2: 72-58 at Butler. We were up by only 1 at the half. 26, 8 for Qual, 13, 2, 4 for PG Tony Larn. Good bench play again.

70-49 over ST Joseph in our home opener. We led by 20 at the half. 15, 8, 3 for Qual. +14 down low.

75-57 at Murray ST. Up by 20 at halftime again. 19, 6 for Qual, 13, 9, 4 for Center Hege Pefo.

82-74 at Richmond. We led all the way, by as many as 21. 17, 7 for Qual, who is having a great season so far. 14, 3, 9 for Dunn. +16 in the paint.

12/13: 73-71 in a real battle at Alabama. They led until the final minute when there were 3 lead changes. We won it on Marq Qual's 10 footer in the final second. Qual had 30 and 7. 11, 12 for Pefo, 14, 8 for SF Glen Topp. They completely shut down our guards but our inside game picked up the slack. +25 rebounds, +16 in the paint. But 21 turnovers; truly a bad night for our guards!

A blowout 87-57 win at Georgia. 22, 7 for Qual, 16, 1, 6 for Dunn, 10, 14 for sub C/F Ben Hamm, 15 for sub guard Joey Mell. +16 for the bench. A big edge inside and 10 turnovers.

90-63 over Western KY here. We led by 30 at halftime. Balanced scoring and solid play by 9 men. A big advantage inside and 9 turnovers. The officiating was terrible, 27 fouls on us, 15 on them. We were -20 free throw attempts.

12/18: The 18th Amendment, prohibition, is approved by Congress and goes to the states for ratification.

12/20: The KGB is formed in Russia.

1/3/1918: The “Spanish flu” is first observed.

1/8: 74-63 at Bryant. We trailed by 1 at halftime. 32, 8 for Qual, 16, 12 for Pefo. Huge advantage inside. 10 turnovers. 72-54 at Dayton. We again trailed by 1 at the half. 17, 8, 7, 3 for Dunn, 19, 4, 0, 3 for Qual. Again, an edge inside, but 20 turnovers to their 23; a sloppy game.

We end pre-conference play with a 55-67 loss at Ohio ST, our worst offensive total of the season by 10 points. We shot 28.8%, 4-17 on threes. That doomed us. 14, 11 for Qual.

Ranked #25, 11-2, NET #9.

+12.1 PPG, 7.4 rebounds, -3.4 turnovers but an awful 13.4.

Qual leads us with 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds. Pefo gets 7.6 rebounds and Hamm 7.1. 5.9 assists for Dunn.
