Way Back When

4/1: 74-54 and we're in the title game!

19, 1, 7, 4 for Tony Larn, 16, 4 for sub Ed Leis. +20 in the paint. 9 fewer TOs. Great D held them to 30.6% shooting.

Unfortunately, one of our best players, Center Cal Will, broke his arm. He's out of the title game. Mura Suji will start.

#1 seed, #1 ranked, #1 NET West Virginia, 33-5, for the title. With a starter out this is a tough one for us but we'll give it all we've got!

4/3: 63-58 and the national championship! We took a big early lead, up 16, then up 13 at halftime. They spent the entire 2nd half trying to catch us and never quite did, although it was a one possession game several times.

Mura Suji, in his first start, had 11 and 12, shut down his man, and was named the game's MOP. 13 each for Wams, Flin, and sub guard Jay Mahn. Great D again, as they shot only 33.3%.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I could take CCSU to a national title. Unbelievable!

4/4: Awards: Deek Wams is Final Four MOP. I am national COY. In Conf. F, Cal Will and Deek Wams make the 1st team, Tony Larn makes 2nd team, and I get the coaching award.

What a year!

4/9: Moving up to Conf. E.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. B-

What a season! 35-1, national title. Overall I'm 572-91, .863.

(Note: While this is totally unrealistic, it happened. I used transfers to build my team and I was able to recruit guys in the high double digits and low triple digits to play here. But mostly it was the transfers.)

5/1: Decent recruiting class.

5/29: I lose a forward who wasn't going to play.

Immigration quotes are established. They are prejudiced against minorities, especially Jews.

5/31: Tulsa race massacre. Hundreds of minorities killed and thousands left homeless.

6/5: I pick up a forward who may start for us.

6/26: We have 4 scholarships. We need a guard and 2 bigs. The 4th can go either big or small.

7/11: Former President Taft is sworn in as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

7/14: Sacco and Vanzetti found guilty.

8/5: First radio broadcast of a baseball game.

8/11: Franklin Roosevelt stricken with polio.

8/21: We offer to a PG, an SG, and 2 Cs.

9/13: White Castle restaurant opens. This will become the first restaurant chain.

9/18: We get the SG, our #1 recruit, #60. Lose a big.

We have a schedule. We're going to the WS Midwest.

9/25: We get 2, lose 1. We get 2 Cs, #156 and 237. Lose a PG we really wanted. We offer to a C.

10/2: We lose the C, offer to a PG.

1st day of practice. We look good!

10/5: First radio broadcast of a World Series game.

Still chasing the 4th recruit.

11/11: Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery.

11/13: Here's our lineup:

Senior Jay Mahn is at PG.

Soph Vic Sull is at SG.

#3 guard is junior Joe Tart, who came here from UCLA but didn;t impress last season. He looks better so far this year. Next guard is frosh
Kari Houl, who shows great promise.

Senior Cal Will, recovered from the leg fracture, is at SF.

Senior Don Smey is at PF.

Junior Deek Wams is back in the middle. He's probably our best player.

1st big off the bench is senior Mura Suji, who is good enough to start. 2nd is soph Ian Curry, who started at Mississippi last season. We lose nothing when he comes in. Next is soph Len Brox, followed by frosh Jim Toel. Those last two don't figure to get much time.

11/21: We won our first 2 easily. Today we open the WS Midwest. We're the #4 seed. We face #5 Anal Perverts, 0-1.

We start fast and take a big lead. Up 16 after 10 minutes. 44-27 at the half. Solid inside play. Up 18 with 10 to go.

86-55. An easy win.

Mura Suji hurts a knee. Out for a week and a half. Ian Curry will get his minutes. 19, 3, 5, 4 steals for SG Vic Sull. Very strong inside play. We shot 54.1%.

#1 seed Iowa, #20, 2-1, in the semis. Hard to know much this early but they look good, especially inside.

11/22: They take a quick lead. Down 12 after 10. 29-35 at the half. We trailed by as many as 14. Cal Will has 3 fouls. Our bench is keeping us in it.

Too many TOs! We can't close the gap, down 5 with 10 to go. Then a mini-run gives us the lead and now it's back and forth.

69-72. We gave it all we had and came up a little short. 20, 8 for Wams, 17, 6 for sub Ian Curry. Both forwards, Smey and Will, fouled out. +20 RBs,

+12 in the paint but they outscored us badly inside. Our bench was +22 pts.

We're 3-1.

12/11: 4 wins to bring us to 7-1 with 4 more before Conf. E play begins.

SG Vic Sull is lighting it up with 15.6 per game. Deek Wams gets 13.8 and 7.3. 10.0 and 8.6 for Don Smey, 11.8 and 4.8 for Cal Will. PG Jay Mahn isn't scoring much but he gets 5.9 assists.

+19.5 PPG. +10.9 RBs. +6.9 Assists. -4.8 TOs, but 13.3 is too many!

1/8/1922: 4 more wins and we end pre-conf. play at 11-1. NET #24 but not ranked. Our only close game so far was the loss to Iowa.

Deek Wams leads us with 14.1 and is 2nd in RBs with 7.7. 12.3 for Sull. 11.3, 9.0 for Smey, and 11.2, 5.1 for Will.

+20.4 PPGs. +11.3 RBs. -6 TOs. +6.6 Assists. #5 overall NET.

1/22: 5-1, 4-0, ranked #21. Tied for 1st in the conf. with GA Tech, with 3 teams 1 back. It's early.

Still 4 guys averaging 11 or more a game and PG Jay Mahn gets 6.3 assists.

We're getting good bench play.

2/5: 19-1, 8-0, #11, NET #15.

1 up on GA Tech in conf., 2 up on Pitt.

Wams leads in PPG with 13.8, and RBs with 8.6. Smey gets 11.4 and 8.0. 11.0, 5.1 for Will. 10.5 for Sull. 6.1 assists for Mahn.

#3 in overall NET Rating.

Both “The Ring” magazine and “Reader's Digest” begin publication.

For the first time there is a radio operating in the White House.
