Way Back When

2/19: 22-2, 11-1 after our first conf. loss at Iowa ST, a mediocre team in 12th place in the conf. We had a really off night, shooting 32.4%.

The refs really hurt us.

Still in 1st, 1 up on #24 Ga. Tech. We're #9 despite the loss. 3 up on 3rd place.

Ga. Tech is here in our next game.

3/5: We beat Ga. Tech by 14 and end the regular season at 25-3, 14-2, after another bad loss, this one at 10th place Colorado ST. They shot 58.1% and we gave up the most points we've surrendered all season, 1 more than in the Iowa ST. Both Smey and Wams fouled out and they took 17 more free throws than we did. I got 2 Ts late so I wound up the game in the locker room. First time I've ever been tossed.

We finish 1st in Conf. E, 1 up on Ga Tech, 4 or more over the rest.

#4 overall NET Rating. #9 ranked, #13 NET going to the post season.

3/8: It's 15-14 Seton Hall, #9 seed, in the Conf. E quarter finals.

78-68. They gave us a game! We expected that since wqe beat them by only 2 in the regular season. Smey fouled out again. I read him out for his recent lack of disciplined play. 17, 7 for Will, 14, 9 for Wams, 14, 2, 7 for Sull. +24 in the paint. We were sloppy, 18 TOs.

It's #5 seed Pitt, 18-11, 10-6, in the semis. We didn't meet in the regular season.

3/9: 77-56. It was a rout. We led by as many as 27 and never trailed. Big game for Wams, 19, 14, 4. 18, 5, 6 for Sull, 18 for Will. Only 9 TOs to 23, which was a huge factor. +32 in the box, +16 on 2nd chances.

As expected it's #2 seed, #19 ranked Ga Tech, 24-6, 13-3, for the title. The3y can play!

3/10: Big run midway through the 1st puts us up 22 after 10. 38-18 at halftime. They're shooting 26.1%, 1-8 on threes. Wams has 12. Up 20 with 10 left to play.

74-57 and the Conf. E crown. 19, 9 for Wams, 13, 9, 6 for Smey, 13, 7 for Will. Big edge inside.

Cal Will hurts his shoulder and is out for about 2 ½ weeks. He was hurt in the post season last year, too. Suji will start and Curry will be 1st big off the bench.

28-3, 14-2, ##7, NET #11. 3 seed?

3/12: #3 West. We play #14 seed ST Johns, 18-11.

3/17: 69-45. Stifling D! They actually led by 1 at the half but we held them to 15 points in the 2nd. 23, 16, 4 for Smey. +17 RBs. But we were sloppy, 20 TOs. They had 22.

It's #6 seed, #22 ranked Texas Tech, 24-9, in Round 2.

3/19: 86-64. A walk in the park. Up 23 at halftime. 18, 11, 4 for Wams, 25 for Sull, 14 RBs for Suji. +28 in the paint, +20 RBs.

#6 ranked, #2 seed Clemson, 26-8, in the Sweet 16. On paper they're better, and they're favored. We'll see!

It's confirmed that Cal Will is out for this game, and if we make it, the next one as well.

3/24: Close early. Up 5 after 10 but all the whistles are going against us. I'm letting the three blind mice know how I feel! 41-34 at the half but both Wams and Smey have 3 fouls. 13 called on us, 7 on them. Wams has 15 points. Bench is +8 points. +10 in the paint. Curry is filling in nicely. Down 5 with 10 to go. I max the D and press more and we're back in it.

77-83. They were batter late. 23, 8 for Wams, 13, 7 for Curry. We lost it at the line, taking 12 free throws to their 30. I took a T in the last minute, when it was already decided. 24 turnovers didn't help.

Good season.

As a consolation, we got our final recruit.

First U. S. aircraft career launches.

4/3: #1 ranked Duke is the champ.

4/4: Awards: Deek Wams is Conf. POY and Def Poy, as well as 1st team, along with Don Smey. Vic Sull and Cal Will make the 2nd team. I am Conf. COY.

4/9: I'm not going anywhere.

Teapot Dome Scandal doesn't look good for Pres. Harding.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. Yes! B- to B+!

Great season, 30-4, Conf. champs, Sweet 16, ranked #7.

Overall, I'm 602-95, .864, after 21 seasons.

5/1: We're in Conf. D.

#145 recruiting class but that doesn't count the two Jucos we successfully recruited, both of whom will get minutes.

5/5: Construction begins on Yankee Stadium.

5/29: We lose a C who would not have played. We'll take the best guy we can get in the transfer pool, regardless of position.

5/30: The Lincoln Memorial is dedicated.

6/5: We get a very good looking PF from Ball ST. He may start.

6/14: First radio speech ever given by the President.

6/26: 2 scholarships. We want 1 and 1.

7/11: The Hollywood Bowl opens.

7/31: We're chasing some decent players who seem interested.

8/21: We offer to a PG and a C. They are both showing some interest.

9/18: We lose the guard.

We're in the Palmetto Shootout. Fairly challenging schedule.

9/25: We lose the PG, offer to another one.

10/2: We get a PG, #167.

First day of practice. We look pretty good!

Rebecca Felton of Georgia becomes the first woman U. S. Senator.

10/9: We lose the big guy we've been chasing from the start.

11/13: Here's the lineup:

Senior Joe Tart is at the Point. He's shown us a lot in practice.

Junior Vic Sull is back at SG.

#3 guard is soph Kari Houl. #4 is Juco junior Ric Robb. Then comes frosh Jay Newn who has potential but isn't ready yet.

Junior Ian Curry starts at SF. He is more than ready!

Soph Rog Holt, a transfer from Ball ST, is at PF.

Senior Deek Wams is back at C.

1st big man off the bench is Juco junior Dex Beno. He's looked good. Junior Len Brox is next and he needs work. Finally comes frosh Ken More, who also needs work. We're not deep inside!

11/25: We're 3-0 going to the Palmetto Shootout. 3 easy wins. All 5 starters are averaging in double figures, led by SG Joe Tart with 17.3 and 5.3 assists. 15.0 for Ian Curry. 10.7, 9.3 for Deek Wams.

We're the #4 seed in the Shootout. We play #5 seed Tulsa, 1-1. They have some injury problems.

We score the first 12. 46-31 at the break. Sull has 3 fouls. We're winning it inside.

87-65. We were never threatened. 25, 10 for Curry, 20, 12 for Wams. +34 in the paint, +17 RBs. Too many TOs, 17.

#1 seed Virginia in the semis. They're 4-0. We can beat them but we'll need to play well. Their SG can light it up.

11/26: They take an early lead. Down 16 after 10; they're really taking it to us. 34-53 at halftime. Ouch! They're beating us both inside and outside. Down only 4 with 10 to play. Our press is turning them over.

75-87. We actually took the lead twice early in the 2nd, but pressing all the time tired us out at the end.

Our D was poor, they shot 56.9%, 10-19 on threes.

12/18/1922: 4 straight wins, now 8-1. None of the last 4 games were close.

Jr. Forward Ian Curry leads in points with 16.6, 5.0 RBs. C Deek Wams gets 14.6 and lead with 8.7 RBs. Our guards are scoring and dishing well but way too many TOs at 14.2.

1/22: We start Conf. D play 3-1. We lost at Belmont in a game we should have won. They're not that good.

The other 3 games were all easy wins.

After 4 games only Mississippi ST is undefeated in conf. play. We go there in two weeks.

Pres. Harding seems to be in serious trouble over the Teapot Dome scandal which won't go away. He has made few public appearances over the past several months.
