11/27: 76-65 at Texas-Rio Grande to start the season. It was tied at the half. 21, 3, 2, 4 for SG Kent Webb. 14, 7 for C Greg Mina. We shot poorly, 33.8%, but we took 27 more shots! 9 turnovers to 24, and an edge inside.

85-73 at Alabama ST. 25, 5, 3, 5 for Mina, 14, 4, 2, 4 for Webb, 14, 10 for PF Tod Woma. We shot MUCH better, 54.7%.

79-60 in our home opener vs. Binghamton. 14, 6 for Mina, +12 for the bench. +20 in the paint and only 10 turnovers.

74-69 in a real battle at the Citadel. 22, 3 for Webb, 18, 5 for Mina.

4-0. Great start to the season! A couple of changes to the lineup- Mina and Woma get increased minutes at C and PF.

Next 3 are on the road.

Lucy is a very good cook. I try to let her know whether I'll be home for dinner when I am in town. I work long hours. I don't want her to go to the trouble of preparing a big meal if I am not at home for dinner. I miss her very much when I am on the road. Now that the season has started that will happen often.

The war rages on throughout the old world.

12/7: 80-71 at Alcorn ST. We took an early lead and held it all the way, leading by as many as 16. 24, 3, 4 for Webb, 15, 5 for Mina, 14, 6 for 6th man Jon Beck. We controlled the inside.

92-84 at Eastern KY. We were a scoring machine tonight. A terrific game for Mina, 32 and 13. 19, 8 for Beck, 14, 2, 9, 5 for Webb. Very strong inside game again.

The win streak ends at 6 as we lose 69-76 at Omaha. It was close all the way and we could not quite catch them at the end. 15, 7 for Mina, 12, 4 for SF Shay Grif. They shot better and we were not as dominant inside as we like to be.

6th man C/F Jon Beck hurt an ankle and is out for at least 2 games.

We are playing excellent ball, all in all.

Lucy doesn't like having me away so much.

“Lucy, it's part of my job. You knew that.”

“Yes, I admit that I did know that. I didn't think it would bother me this much.”

“Or you afraid of being alone.”

“No, not at all. I just miss you.”

“I miss you, as well. Unfortunately, that is the nature of this work, especially during the season. We will simply need to make the most of our time when I am at home.”

“When you are at home you work very long hours.”

“Yes, I know. But that cannot be helped. Still, I will make every effort to find more time to be with you.”

That means I will take more work home, and do it after she falls asleep. I can get by on less sleep.

12/18: Back home for a 92-75 win against Canisius. 19, 7, 9, 3 for Webb, 23, 7 for Mina, 15, 4, 2, 3 for Grif. Our #3 guard, Erik Rama, had a good game, 12, 2, 4.

A very close 61-59 win over Jacksonville ST here. We led by as many as 17 and they came all the way back and tied it, then took a late lead. We fought back, tying it with 22 seconds left on a three by Webb. They missed, Mina got the rebound and sent it down court to our PG Jam Hart, who got it to Webb for a 15 footer off a screen with 0.7 to play for the win. Exciting game!

17, 5 for Webb, 16, 5 for Mina. At the end four of our starters had 4 fouls.

We then lost to a team we should have beaten, 73-80at Dixie ST. It was close all the way but we missed some opportunities late in the game. Mina was out played in the middle, which is unusual, and PF Tod Woma had a terrible game. We definitely lost it inside, -12 in the paint. Poor defense was a big factor as well, as they shot 53.1%.

Oh well, off nights are bound to happen.

8-2 with 6 games to play.

+6.9 PPG, and we are #14 in scoring. +3.7 rebounds. -5.2 turnovers, but 13.8 are too many. +5 steals, and we are 2nd in steals.

Greg Mina leads us in points, with 18.2, and in rebounds, with 6.8. Kent Webb gets 17.0 points. Tod Woma also gets 6.8 rebounds. Jam Hart leads us with 5.9 assists. Webb gets 2.5 steals per game. Mina and Hart foul too frequently.

4 of our last 6 games are away. Lucy will not be pleased.

Lucy is an excellent cook. I always try my very best to eat at home when I am not travelling.

12/28: For the first time, we are beaten badly, 65-87 at Dartmouth. Neither the offense nor the defense played well. 16, 5, 4 for Webb, 16, 6 for Mina. But they shot 56.1%.

66-58 at Navy. It was close until the last 5 minutes when we took charge. 12 and 12 for Mina, 14, 9 for Woma. Webb had a terrible night, 2 points, 0-11 shooting! +32 in the paint, 9 fewer turnovers.

92-78 over James Madison here. #3 guard Erik Rama had 26, 2, 4, 3. 14, 7, 7, 4 for Webb, 15, 7 for Woma.

We are, at present, the best of the independents by a 3 game margin. With only 3 to play it is a virtual certainty that we will move up to Conference V.

Lucy gave me a wonderful holiday present. She is with child. The baby is expected in mid-June.

12/29: We journeyed by rail to Hartford to see a motion picture called “Tillie's Punctured Romance.” It was quite good, even with the flickering picture.

1/8/1915: 86-69 over Mercer in our last home game. 25, 2, 4 for Webb, 16, 8 for Mina, 18, 3, 3 for Rama, 14, 4 for Beck. +20 for the bench. +14 in the paint.

Starting C Greg Mina bruised abdominals and will miss our last 2 games. Jon Beck will start.

77-66 at Jackson ST. We were down 6 at the half and turned it around. 18, 6 for Woma, 15, 2, 4, 3 for Webb, 14, 4 for Beck, filling in at C. 13 fewer turnovers.

We end the season playing very well in a 74-78 loss at Memphis, the best team we played all season. 19, 4, 3 for Beck, good bench play.

We end up the best of the independents at 12-4, 7 games better than the next best independent. NET is #111. Almost certainly not good enough for an invitation to a post season tournament. We lose 1 starter and 2 subs if no one transfers out.

+8.3 PPG, 4th in scoring. +1.5 RBs, -6.9 TOs, which is very good; we average 12.0.

Webb leads us with 14.3 points per game. Mina, 2nd in points, leads in rebounds with 6.8. Beck gets 6.7.

1/12: The U. S. House of Representatives rejects a proposal to give women the vote.

1/31: Poison gas is used in the war for the first time, by the Germans.

2/28: German submarines prove to be effective weapons of war.3/28: “Typhoid Mary” is arrested and returned to quarantine after infecting dozens.

3/12: I am shocked to learn that we are selected to play in the NCAA tournament. Our NET, inexplicably climbed to #35 after our season ended. We are the #10 seed in the West regional and play #7 Marquette, 18-12. They have played 10 ranked teams, going 5-5. We have played none. Thus, they are heavily favored.

3/17: Close early in a defensive game. They go on a run and lead by 9 after 10. 22-30 at the half. Our defense is playing well but we are shooting
25.9%, 1-10 on threes. Woma has 3 fouls. We have not played in more than two months and it shows. Down 14 with 10 to go. We simply cannot score.

54-57. We finished strong but 32% shooting did us in. Our defense was very good. -17 rebounds but +12 in the paint. 9 fewer turnovers. It was simply a matter of not making shots.

3/31: The World War continues with death, injury, carnage, and destruction of property at levels never before seen by humanity. Neither side seems to have an advantage.

Lucy has been healthy so far. The baby is due in early to mid-June.

4/3: #10 Ohio ST is the national champ.

Awards: No awards for independents

4/6: Jess Willard defeats Jack Johnson for the heavyweight title.

4/9: Listed as having finished last when we had the best record among independents. TP is now 13.

4/23: I ask for money.

No.

12-5. Overall record for 14 seasons, 376-78, .828.

Lucy is still feeling fine. She quit her job at the library a few weeks ago. She will stay at home with the baby when it comes, and we both felt that at this late stage she is better off not working.

5/1: Promoted to Conf. V.

Recruit class #61.

5/3: “In Flanders Field” is published. Written by a soldier.

5/7: The Germans sink the Lusitania. All 1,198 on board perish.

5/15: The baby came early. Elmer Jacob Last. Mother and son are both healthy and doing fine!

5/29: No one transfers out. We have a full roster so we will not take part in the transfer sessions.

The baby is home and healthy. Lucy's mother has been here helping out. She will leave in another week. Things are going well!

6/5: Denmark gives women the vote.

6/25: No money for camps.

6/26: 3 scholarships and we want big men.

Lucy tried to do everything on her own and it was too much. We've hired a part time cook/house cleaner. She is here 5 days a week from 3:00-7:00.

7/19: The Washington Senators steal 8 bases in one inning.

7/28: The U. S. occupies Haiti, a sovereign nation.

Things are going well with our part time helper, Rosalie on board.

8/17: Hurricane in Galveston, Texas kills 275.

8/21: We offer to 3 PFs. We think we have a shot with all of them.

9/18: We get our #1, a real long shot since he's ranked #44. Lost one.

Another weak schedule. I want wins!

9/25: We get one, lose one. We get #255.

10/2: We lose another one.

First day of practice. I think we're going to rule Conf. V.

10/5: TY Cobb steals his 96th base, a new record.

10/12: For Motor Company sells its 1 millionth car. How depressing!

10/13: The Boston Red Sox win the World Series.

10/23: 25,000 march for Women's Suffrage in New York City.

11/12: The lineup:

Junior Jam Hart is back at Point Guard. His ball handling and defense are his strengths, but he is scoring more this season, or has been in practice.

Junior Jay Wink starts at SG. He is much improved this year.

Guard Kent Webb, another junior, switches to SF this season as we go with a three guard set.

1st guard off the bench is junior Tip Rice, whose defense needs work. Frosh Jeff Well is our 5th guard, and he is not ready.

Senior Jon Beck is at PF. He was our 6th man last season. We have high expectations for him.

Senior Greg Mina is back at C. He did most things well last year but his defense could be better.

First big man off the bench is junior Drew Weal, who could easily start if we needed him to. Next is junior Tod Woma, who is a very good rebounder. Senior Jam Odle is also good on the boards. Frosh Rado Rodz shows promise but he is not ready.

Elmer will be 6 months old in 2 days. He has been healthy since birth and is growing by leaps and bounds. Lucy is so happy to be a mother. It is always a pleasure to come home to be with my family!

11/27: We start the season with an easy 80-53 win at Towson. We led all the way and they were never in it. 6th man Drew Weal had 20 and 6. 16, 6, 6, 3 for C Greg Mina. 14, 3, 7, 3 for PG Jam Hart. +24 in the paint, 8 TOs. A great way to start the season!

Greg Mina: There are a lot of things I don't like about playing here at CCSU, and I very nearly transferred out. But Coach knows his stuff and he knows how to win, and I have to say he tries to keep me happy.

A disappointing outcome at The Citadel, 67-77. They shot 57.4% which gives me great concern regarding our defense. Jon Beck had 14 and 8. Our bench was +13. But our other 4 starters simply did not do enough. The only bright sign was 9 turnovers.

Rado Rodz: It is difficult for me here. I have difficulty speaking and understanding the language and the game is played very differently than in my native
Russia. Still, Coach is encouraging and says that as I learn the system I will play more. I try to be patient.

83-55 over Tennessee ST in our home opener. The crowd loved it as we were firing on all cylinders, especially in the first half, 46-22. 23, 2, 9 for Hart, 14, 7 for Mina. We're taking very good care of the ball this season, 10 turnovers tonight. We controlled the inside.

Jam Hart: Coach said to take my shot this season, even though I play the Point, and I'm doing it. It sure felt good to hit 7 threes tonight!

83-52 at Jacksonville ST. We were hot again tonight. 12, 3, 3, 6 for Webb, 10, 3, 5, 3 for Hart, 14, 7 for Weal.

Kent Webb: I'm struggling to get used to playing SF instead of SG, which I've played all my life. I felt a little more comfortable tonight.
