1/29: At 7-10, 3-3 Bethune-Cookman. They give up 4 1/2 more than they score but they play well at home.
As I feared, a guy we've been after for months failed to hit our SAT score.
Long train ride to Daytona Beach but it was quiet, and I had a really good pot roast on the train.
1/30: They take an early lead. We come back. Then we take the lead. 44-41 at halftime in a shoot out. 12 each for Meed and Goss, 11 for Tell. Lyne has 3 fouls, as does his man. +11 RBs. We'll need to play better D to bring this one in. We're holding onto a lead .
89-81. We didn't play better D but we kept scoring. 20, 6, 3 for Gar Goss, 21, 7 for Greg Meed, 17, 9, 1, 4 for Hank, 13, 3 for Tell. Our bench had 37. +12 inside, +8 RBs.
As I look at our schedule really only 2 games of our last 9 that look like they could be challenging. We're in the 2nd weakest conference, and it shows. Let's see how we do as we get Promoted to better conferences in the years ahead.
2/1: 8-10, 2-5 Delaware ST is here. They can score outside and their starters rebound well but they only score 1.3 more than their opponents, and they can't match our bench.
2/2: It's back and forth. At about the halfway mark we get hot and take a lead. 47-33 at the half. 12 for Hope, 10 for Meed. +14 down low. We get the lead to 20 with 10 to play.
99-77. 18, 7, 3, 3, 3 for PF Greg Meed, 20, 6, 1, 3 for Hank, 18, 2, 4 for SG Ken Hope, 10, 8, 5 for Goss. +12 for the bench. +22 in the paint.
We now lead Conf U by 2 over 2 teams at the halfway point in conference play.
I haven't mentioned the parlor in the boarding house. There are 10 boarders here, 5 on the 2nd floor and 5, including me and my staff, on the third floor.
Most of us use the parlor regularly rather than staying in our rooms. It's warmer in the cold weather, and not as stifling in the hot weather.
It's a big room with it's own fire place, two sofas, several easy chairs, a couple of tables where people play cards, checkers, or chess, a piano, and lots of windows.
Quiet hours begin at 9:00 and the parlor closes at 10:00.
When we're home the staff and I usually go to a corner with a sofa and an easy chair and we talk over what we need to talk over- strategy, practice plans, game plan, recruiting info, any problems... When we can plan ahead we bring files from the office, otherwise we just take notes.
It can be noisy, but not terribly so unless someone is playing the piano, but that's good noise!
Speaking of the piano, someone was playing, "In the Good Old Summertime," which, strangely, just came out. I guess people want to forget the cold and snow, but every time I pass a piano, anywhere I go, it seems someone is playing it. It's a catchy tune!
Not everyone uses the parlor but most of the boarders do, either reading, chatting, or playing games. It really is great that the room is available.
