Cowboys Lose to Colorado State in MWC Quarterfinals; Await Their Fate for Post-Season

Las Vegas, Nevada--Colorado State powered past Wyoming in the Mountain West Conference Tournament quarterfinals 78-69. The Rams led by 10 at the intermission and held on in the second half for the win.
The Rams took a page out of the Wyoming playbook in this game getting a well-balanced attack with four players scoring in double-figures and using a commanding game in the paint to take the win.
Eric Mills led the Rams with 13 points off the bench and Jermaine Smith earned player of the game honors owning the paint with 10 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and two steals.
"Smith was a handful for us tonight; we just didn't have any answers for him, especially on the defensive side of the ball." Stated a dejected Coach Marcus Dawson.
Wyoming struggled shooting the ball only hitting on 39% of their field goals and 20% of their three-point shots. Rod Tarver led all scorers with 18 points but turned the ball over four times. Brendan Moody had a solid game with 15 points, six assists, and seven rebounds. Clifton Tahid rounded out the Cowboys in double-figures with 10 points. The difference in the game came from freshman standout James Mills who was absent for most of the game because of foul trouble he scored six points but played only 13 minutes. "Not being able to keep James on the floor hurt us tremendously," stated Coach Dawson, "he's an enforcer on the defensive side of the ball and without him on the floor, CSU was able to attack the paint." Transfer Marcus Morris played solid minutes but his six points and 10 rebounds weren't enough for the Cowboys to defeat the Rams.
The Cowboys now will await their fate to see if they get called on Selection Sunday for the Big Dance. They certainly have a solid resume that should get them in with 23 wins this season including over Kentucky and Illinois and a Net Rank of 24. We'll see what happens Sunday evening.
