New to Game

Postby blazertaz13 » Tue Aug 06, 2019 6:38 pm

I new to the game and looking forward to getting sucked in.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direct or offer up some advice setting up things like salary cap, contract limits, etc. for a realistic feel for playing out an NFL season. I have a few holes in my knowledge on these things, so I appreciate the assistance.

Thanks,

This might help getting you started for real world finances: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001020137/article/nfl-salary-cap-for-2019-season-set-at-1882m There is even infomation about the different tags and dollar amount per year.

For individual player contracts, its a bit trickier, but here is a good start: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/

Personally I would leave it on the defaults. If you want bigger numbers you can increase the cap 20% or so, and max contracts 20% and see how that works.

The biggest problem with NFL contracts is how they compare contracts to signing bonuses and guaranteed money, and they know guys aren't going to play out their contracts and will get cut (creating even more oddities on cap space). Converting that to a more fixed based contract system is nearly impossible.

I noticed there doesn't seem to be a division in PF20 contracts as it relates to guaranteed money versus not. Are all contracts in PF20 100% guaranteed even if you cut the player?

In the options you can set the cut penalty (in percentage of the salary).

Now that I am starting to get time to play, it is time for a couple of additional questions:

1 - Once the free agency signing period is over (before preseason) - how do I go about signing free agents? The reason I ask is that I don't seem to have the ability to negotiate with the free agent. The contract demand is greyed out. Is there away to negotiate the contract?

2 - When starting a new season, do the coaches I have coach the first season and then I need to offer a contract? They all appear to have zero year deals and all want a new contract.

3 - Since I am playing out as GM only (could change as I start to understand game planning), I am assuming I have no control over depth charts. I was wondering as watching the first preseason game I noticed that players did not rotate through. For example, my quarter back (Aaron Rodgers) played the whole game. Since it was preseason I expected there to be a rotation set up.

I might have more questions later, so I do appreciate the help.

#1, the sign free agents menu item should allow you add free agents to your team for the min contract value automatically
#2 yes, initial seasons give you temporary coaches that you can extend or let their contracts run out to hire new ones at coach signing
#3 This may be a bug... i thought you could still set some strategy options such as playing backups, but in GM only mode that may not be available meaning the coaches should be doing it (similar to how they work in CPU mode) I'll have to take a closer look at it

Thanks for feed Brooks. I just played a second preseason game and my coach just does not seem to play the game as such. I noticed that my opponent will sub players out and use the bench as would be expected.

On a side note, it would be great to see the game stats while watching the replay (GMing only), I am referring to the normal box score items like first downs, penalties, ect.. This would be when you go to off field screen when you read the play results. I see the cumulative yards passing and rushing for each team, but maybe expand it some. Just a thought.

Still liking what I am playing. :-)
