Defense Question

Regarding defensive strategy, it was my understanding that most football teams stick to one type of defensive base (i.e., 4-3 or 3-4). However, I noticed in the game when I allow my defensive coordinator to pick plays, the plays often switch from 4-3, to 3-4, to 5-2, etc. Just wondering if I am missing something or not understanding football defensive strategy.

A lot of teams have a "base" defense, but depending on down and distance, personnel, etc. they shift into other formations. In future versions we'll visit more tailored playbooks for CPU teams or coaches.
