Posting a review-laden dynasty thread

Postby QuikSand » Sun Dec 01, 2019 8:58 am

For what it's worth... I have started playing FB20 recently, and I have started a "dynasty" thread on my experience doing so.

Thread link: https://forums.operationsports.com/fofc ... hp?t=96278

Since what I'm doing is not exactly a "Dynasty Thread" I have decided to skip the tumbleweeds of that forum here, and will instead post it at FOF Central. There are pros and cons of doing so, but my hope is that the community there (where the thread will eventually get hundreds rather than handfuls of visits) is an obvious and ripe target for a game like this. FOF has its deep devotees (me among them) but most of us are supporters of the genre, and would absolutely welcome a quality and robust contender in the marketplace for gridiron text sim games. And some of us are basically very, very thirsty for a new game, regardless.

So...I started it thinking I'd mostly be talking about the new game, and how I was building my team from the basement to, hopefully, the penthouse. Alas, the early stages have mostly focused on some in-game mechanics, me being lost and oncfused at various things, finding stuff that didn't work as expected, and the like. Fair game. I'm doing my best to raise these issues, and bring this game to a broader audience. It's not unplayable, and I'm hoping that if I can get into the swing of things a bit, maybe I'll actually make a legitimate career here.

Cheers, and enjoy.

Thanks for the post... It's always good to get fresh eyes on the game. I am completely baffled and confused by FOF and never even got through a season or even 2 games. I think a lot of us here who have been playing PFS->DDSPF->DDSCF overlook a lot of the issues since we've had years to get used to them. Seeing some of the pain you're going through definitely highlights areas of improvement. So hopefully you're able to stick with it and get some enjoyment out of the game... I definitely appreciate the honest feedback and will do what we can to make it better over time.

Thank you Brooks. I am committed to the genre, and your quick attention to my comments here is a great sign, in my book.

I don't expect revolutionary changes... but if my observations can plant some ideas in your mind here and there, we both win, I think.

So, please take my comments in as reasonable a way as possible. I know I can get snarky sometimes with my chatter, but my goal in every case is to help steer things in a positive direction, I assure you.

I have already had multiple occurrences in my little thread of "ohhhh, now I guess I see how that works... I get it, next time I'll have the right angle." That's a good thing.

I agree with brooks that it is good to get new eyes on this, since as brooks mentions you can become blind to things you take for granted. It clear overall that the jargon is harsher in the FOF community, and we can live with it (weve had worse). So appreciate you taking the time to do this.

I moved the guide thread to sticky it here, that will have some info that may be helpful, since one of your biggest gripes seem to be lack of help/manual (something we are painfully aware of). You are also very welcome in the slack channel for (more or less) real-time help (someone is usually there, either experienced users or one of the devs).
