When choosing between where to put which LB where, how do you know where to put
each LB like either ROLB or MLB since they are all just labeled as LB?

You decide based on how they are going to be used and the LB stats. If you are running, for example, a 3-4 base defemse. your WLB or ROLB will generally be a pass rushing specialist. So, depending on what you think is important for pass rushing, you will put your best pass rushing LB there. LOLB is usually over the TE, meaning he will cover the TE or have to fight the TE's block in the run game.

Look over the plays you put in your playbook, or just the plays you use, then find players that fit best into what that specific position does. This is something YOU have to decide as coach. Or, you can let the coaches do it.

I haven't gotten too deep into defensive strategies just yet but this seems like some good knowledge of the game. I think the part where you said to look at specifically which plays you're running on defense and see what the responsibilities are for each LB will be key for knowing which LB to play at which position.
