House rules for FA?

I am still relatively new to the game. So far I am really enjoying my time playing. The only thing that puts a damper on my enthusiasm is the plentiful supply of quality players willing to sign for peanuts once the season starts. It seems that it is possible to skip the FA period completely and just pick up a bunch of top quality players on the cheap once the season begins. I know I can just do the old "just say no" to that temptation of exploiting that element of the game. Other than that, has anyone developed any house rules that work and would be willing to share. Thanks.

Hmm, that could be a nice quick fix. Based on your experience, do you have and financial settings you recommend? Thanks for your reply

it depends on how you like the scaling really. I think a cap of 130-ish and a maxsal of 15-ish would be where I would start. But really im just guessing here. Then you could set minsalary for 90+ overall to be like 6 mill or something you feel will deter you from not saying no

You have given me some nice ideas to start working from. I'll have to do some tests. Thanks for your help!

Playing around with different test leagues, I realized the problem I was having (too many left over quality FA's willing to sign for peanuts) only exists when choosing the "real nfl names" option in setup. The default setup works just fine in regards to FA, if I choose the fictional player option.
