Player skills/changing positions

Hi, I'm new to the game, and as I've been playing around with it, I have some questions about player ratings:

Off to the side is a section for player skills, which has a skill level for each position. I'm assuming this is very important as it is their rating on position specific skills. However, in a lot of the custom player files, an overall rating and physical attributes are specified, but the player skills are not. How does this work?

How do I change a players position. Let's say I have a 3-4 linebacker that I want to play as a 4-3 DE. The only way I know is to use Edit, and change the players position. However, that copies the player skill over from his current position to the new one. That doesn't make sense... If I move Aaron Donald to QB, he all of a sudden has a 99 skill rating at quarterback. There has to be a better way to change player positions.

Anyways, any help you can give about how to read the player ratings would be appreciated!

on the players bio page you can change players position in the 'normal' way (the coach wanting to use him somewhere else).
