Defunct Teams Football League

Welcome to the Defunct Teams Football League, where many of your favorite teams of years past have come back to play on the gridiron once again. Forty defunct teams have come together to form the Defunct Teams Football League. The league is divided into the Western and Eastern Conference, and each conference has four divisions of five teams each. The league will play only two preseason games, because who are we kidding, the preseason is boring. But two games at least get the rust out without risking too many serious injuries. The regular season is played out in 18 games over 20 weeks. The postseason will include the eight-division winners plus six wildcard teams, meaning the top-ranked team in each conference will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
Each team will have a 53-man roster with a 10-man practice squad. The league players and coaches are fictional. The overtime rules are one extra quarter in the regular season and unlimited quarters in the playoffs. Extra points are either one- or two-point options. The winners of each conference playoff will face off in the Defunct Bowl for the right to be called the Champion!
Now, let us look at the teams. The 40 teams cover the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Europe. The Western Conference has four divisions: California Division, Central Division, Gulf Coast Division, and the Southwest Division. The Eastern Conference also has four divisions: East Division, Southeast Division, European West Division, and the European East Division.
The California Division consists of the San Diego Fleet of the AAF, the Los Angeles Express of the USFL, the San Francisco Demons of XFL1, the Oakland Invaders of the USFL, and the Sacramento Surge of the WLAF.
The Central Division contains the St. Louis Battlehawks of the AAF, and the Chicago Blitz, Ohio Glory, Michigan Panthers, and Oklahoma Outlaws of the USFL.
The Gulf Coast Division consists of the Shreveport Pirates of the CFL, the Houston Oilers of the NFL, the Houston Gamblers and New Orleans Breakers of the USFL, and the San Antonio Riders of the WLAF.
The Southwest Division is represented by Memphis Showboats and Denver Gold of the USFL, the Arizona Hotshots of the AAF, the Las Vegas Posse of the CFL, and the Mexico City Aztecs, which is loosely based on the Continental Football League’s Monterrey Aztecs.
The East Division has the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL, and the Philadelphia Stars, New Jersey Generals, Pittsburgh Maulers, and Washington Federals of the USFL.
The Southeast Division contains the Orlando Rage of XFL1, the Miami Manatees of the CFL, the Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks of the WLAF, and the Tampa Bay Bandits and Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL.
The European West and East Division are all represented by WLAF/NFLE teams. In the West, we have the Scottish Claymores, London Monarchs, Montreal Machine, Barcelona Dragons, and the Amsterdam Admirals. In the East, we have the Berlin Thunder, Cologne Centurions, Frankfurt Galaxy, Hamburg Sea Devils, and Rhine Fire.
Each week of the season, I will highlight the Game of the Week as chosen by DDSPF and report on any other news that is noteworthy. It is time to start the 2020 season! Choose your favorite defunct team and cheer them on in the Defunct Teams Football League dynasty!!
