XFL Week 5: Enforcers Win on Last Play Of GameMarch 30, 2010
Salt Lake City, UT - One of the largest crowds in XFL history turned out in Salt Lake City on Friday night to celebrate one of the young league's most spectacular games as Chicago QB Joey Harrington threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to WR Ruvell Martin on fourth down with six seconds to play to give the Enforcers a 51-45 win over the Salt Lake City Mountain Lions in the the pulse-pounding ball game. The Enforcers comeback started early in the fourth. Harrington led a 14-play drive but Chicago settled for a 24-yard field goal to make it 42-37 with 6:40 remaining. After Salt Lake went three-and-out on its next possession, Harrington's 2-yard touchdown pass to TE Tory Humphrey brought the Enforcers to a 44-42 lead on a drive extended by a pair of costly Salt Lake penalties. LB Marcus Reese was flagged for a personal foul after the Mountain Lions broke up Harrington's third-down pass. Five plays later, Harrington threw up a desperation pass under pressure from the Salt Lake 7-yard-line that was intercepted by DL Dave Tollefson. But DL Montavious Stanley was flagged for roughing the passer, giving Chicago first-and-goal at the 3. "I thought our team lost their poise a time or two that resulted in penalties," Salt Lake coach Dennis Erickson said. "When you do that against a good team like Chicago, they're going to hurt you."
QB JT O'Sullivan had the Salt Lake offense sharp from the start. He coolly took the Mountain Lions 82 yards in 10 plays to open the game and connected with WR Paris Warren on a 14-yard touchdown pass to put the Mountain Lions up 7-0 with 9:51 to play in the first quarter. But the Enforcers answered on their first possession of the game before O'Sullivan lofted a 6-yard touchdown pass to WR Freddie Mitchell in the corner of the end zone to put the Mountain Lions up 14-7. Chicago then ate up more than six minutes on an 11-play drive that tied the game with RB Noah Herron scoring on 4th-and-1. O'Sullivan then hit three straight passes to move the Mountain Lions to the Chicago 35 with 13 seconds left before lifting a perfect strike down the sideline to Mitchell for a 35-yard touchdown on the final play of the half to put Salt Lake up 21-10 at the half.

CFL and XFL Turn Down a UFL MergerApril 1, 2010
Toronto, ONTARIO, CANADA - In August, expected news came when the founders of the United Football League announced their intentions to shut down the UFL and pursue a merger with the CFL or XFL. Reaction from the CFL with respect to the UFL's intentions was mixed, however, with league head office iterating a reluctance to continue US expansion while Montreal Alouettes owner, Robert Wetenhall, welcoming the concept of bids involving border regions. The CFL will be expanding to 11 teams for the 2010 season with the addition of a franchise in Quebec City and then to 12 teams with a return to Ottawa, so the UFL proposal is unlikely. The XFL said they were not interested in working with the UFL.
