Jaws' Philadelphia Brawlers Take over Evesham

May 10, 2012

Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia Brawlers will be holding a "Town Takeover" of Evesham Township. The Town Takeover, presented by Susquehanna Bank, will feature a "run-through" practice by the Philadelphia Brawlers. The event will be free to the public. During the practice, random residents will be asked to participate by "running plays" with the team.

"Our organization is about connecting with the community and being accessible to our fans," said Brawlers' General Manager Ron Jaworski. "We'd like to thank Mayor Brown and the Town Council for allowing us to host this event and Susquehanna Bank for sponsoring the event and making it possible. We are inviting all of the town's people to join us that night and at our game the following night."

Memphis Express Releases Terrell Owens

May 19, 2012

Memphis, TN - Terrell Owens' tenure in the XFL came to an unceremonious end Thursday when the Memphis Express released the controversial former NFL receiver. Owens signed with the Express in February, receiving a six-figure salary and an ownership stake in the franchise. Owner Jim Speros said Owens' ownership stake has been terminated because he violated his contract. Speros cited Owens' refusal to play in upcoming road games that are critical to the team's playoff hopes and Owens' no-show for a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital as the breaking points in the team's relationship with the receiver.

"Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field," Speros said. "We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community.vIt's very difficult to get back into the NFL, especially at that age. To me, there's no question he could play in the NFL. When I see these receivers that are playing, there is no question Terrell could still play in the NFL. But it's not what happens between the lines with Terrell, unfortunately. It's how he handles things outside the lines."

San Antonio, TX - Larry Benson, owner of the San Antonio Commanders Football Team, announced a partnership with local CBS affiliate, to make the station the home of a reality show. "Guts & Glory" will introduce Commanders' team members to San Antonio viewers in a weekly series presenting the "behind the scenes" look at the XFL. "We will give South Texas fans the "best" of the Commanders off the field," Benson said. "Our coaches and team will candidly discuss the season to date with insight into the player's lives and game strategy."

"Larry has made the Commanders team an essential part of the community," Michael Huyghue, XFL commissioner said, "I was pleased that through this series the public will get to know the players as fathers, sons, and contributing members of San Antonio. I think this show will inspire other owners to find a way to replicate Larry's program in every one of our markets," said Huyghue. "We'll come to know the players much more than what we see on game day. It's been a pleasure working with Larry. He has the drive, determination and love for the game. He has made it his own, and I admire, respect and appreciate Larry for doing that. Being able to expose the XFL and the San Antonio Commanders through this type of media is an incredible opportunity. The XFL is the most fan friendly sport out there, and the opportunity to present it to South Texas in this forum is something that most teams and leagues can only dream about."
