XFL Week 15: Renegades Rock Showboats
July 6, 2024
Dallas, TX - The Dallas Renegades fired on all cylinders, picking up 415 total yards of offense and forcing four turnovers, to defeat the Salt Lake City Showboats, 47-23. The total attendance for the game at Choctaw Stadium was 18,042. The Renegades got off to a quick start versus the Showboats, as their offense went on an 11-play, 54-yard scoring drive to start the game. QB Lindsey Scott found TE Sal Cannella for a nine-yard touchdown to put Dallas up 6-0. Salt Lake got on the board on their first possession as well, as K Matt Coghlin nailed a 54-yard field goal to make it 6-3, which would be the score after one quarter of play. Dallas would find the end zone again, with a 24-yard touchdown pass from QB Luis Perez to WR JaVonta Payton. A successful two-point conversion pass from Perez to Cannella extended the lead to 14-3. On the next drive, the Renegades offense took advantage of an interception by DB Tenny Adewusi with a one-yard rushing touchdown by RB DeVeon Smith. The Renegades converted the two-point conversion with a pass from Smith to WR Caleb Vander Esch, increasing the lead to 22-3. Midway through the second quarter, the Showboats capped off a five-play drive with a touchdown pass from QB Troy Williams to WR Daewood Davis, cutting the lead to 13. Perez would lead a two-minute offensive drive that allowed K Jonathan Garibay to convert a 39-yard field goal as the half expired to make it 25-9, the highest first-half output by the Renegades all season.
After a Salt Lake turnover on downs to start the third quarter, Smith would turn a 46-yard rush that flipped the field into a one-yard touchdown run to make it a 31-9 ballgame. After forcing a Salt Lake three-and-out, Perez would connect with Payton for a 33-yard score to cap a 94-yard drive and extend the Dallas lead. A two-point conversion reception by TE Seth Green made it 39-9 with just over three minutes left in the third. Williams would take matters into his own hands, scoring on a 15-yard quarterback keeper just before the quarter concluded, making it 39-17 after the two-point conversion. A 51-yard interception return by DB Joe Powell in the fourth set up Cannella's second touchdown of the game, a four-yard pass from Perez, to extend the lead to 47-17 with 9:19 to go. A touchdown by Salt Lake WR Vinny Papale made it 47-23 with 1:07 left. DL Vic Beasley recorded a strip sack on a 4th-and-12 attempt to seal the win for the Renegades.

XFL Week 15: Panthers Defeat Defenders
July 7, 2024
Washington, DC - The Detroit Panthers extended their win streak to three games with a 22-9 victory over the Washington Defenders at the nearly impenetrable Audi Field. The rushing attack continued to prove vital for the Panthers, who tallied 187 total yards and two scores on the ground. RB Matthew Colburn led the way with 137 yards, with 107 coming in the first half. For the third straight week, the Panthers opened the game with a touchdown. Despite being backed up and starting the drive on their own six-yard line, Detroit only needed five plays to hit paydirt. Colburn broke off runs of 23 and 55 yards to break into the redzone, and QB Brian Lewerke finished the drive with a seven-yard rushing touchdown. Lewerke connected with WR Samson Nacua for the one-point conversion, and the Panthers led 7-0 in the opening minutes. The Defenders drove into Detroit territory on their first possession of the game, but the drive stalled and settled for a 43-yard field goal attempt that K Matt McCrane pushed wide right.
Detroit found the endzone once again on the ensuing drive, this time with QB Bryce Perkins under center. RB Wes Hills picked up a rushing touchdown of his own. The Panthers were unable to hold the Defenders scoreless in the first, as DC only needed one play to score. QB Jordan Ta'amu threw a 70-yard catch-and-run touchdown to WR Ty Scott to get them on the board and make it a one-score game. Detroit went three-and-out on offense to follow, but DB DaShaun White recovered a Defenders muffed punt at DC's 21-yard line to give the Panthers new life. The Panthers could not take advantage, settling for a 51-yard Jake Bates field goal to give them a 10 point advantage. Bates also tacked on a 22-yard field goal before halftime and Detroit took a 19-6 lead into intermission. Bates made his third field goal of the game midway through the third quarter, this time from 40 yards out. Colburn, adding onto his monster day on the ground, picked up a run of 16 yards on the drive, in addition to a 13-yard scramble by Perkins. Panthers DL Breeland Speaks wanted in on the action with a timely sack on Ta'amu for a loss of 11 yards on third down. Ta'amu was hurt on the play and did not return to the game. Speaks now has 12 sacks on the season, which ranks second in the league. The Defenders added a field goal in the fourth quarter, but that was all Detroit's defense allowed. DL Kenny Willekes picked up his sixth sack of the year to muffle any chance of a comeback.

XFL Week 15: Thunder Walk-Off Roughnecks in 15-12 Victory
July 7, 2024
Houston, TX - Berlin K Ryan Santoso nailed a season-long 51-yard field goal as time expired and the Thunder overcame four turnovers to defeat the Houston Roughnecks in a nail-biter, 15-12, at Rice Stadium. Trailing 12-3 with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Thunder scored the game's only touchdown with a RB John Lovett one-yard rushing touchdown. On the three-point attempt, QB Kevin Hogan found TE Cody Latimer tying the game, 12-12. On the ensuing kickoff, Berlin's Bryce Thompson forced a Roughneck fumble and DB Teez Tabor recovered at Houston's 42-yard line. Berlin bled the remaining clock and Santoso won the game on Santoso's leg. The first quarter was not kind to the Thunder, as two red zone trips resulted in two lost fumbles. Houston was unable to capitalize on either takeaway, keeping the game scoreless heading into the second. Berlin broke the seal in the second quarter with a Santoso 26-yard field goal. After a QB Jarrett Guarantano deep shot to WR Justin Hall for 42 yards, Houston tied the game with a 48-yard field goal in the final seconds of the half.
The turnover bug plagued the Thunder in the second half, as QB Quinten Dormady was strip sacked early in the third quarter, and the Roughnecks recovered the loose ball on Berlin's 25-yard line. The Thunder defense held Houston to another field goal, but the Roughnecks claimed the lead midway through the quarter. K JJ Molson notched this third field goal of the game for Houston with a 62-yard make near the end of the quarter, his third make from 50+ yards this season. Looking to get back into the game, Dormady was intercepted to bring the turnover count to four. Houston turned the takeaway into points with a Molson 21-yard field goal. Hogan took over for Dormady in the fourth quarter and led the Thunder to a comeback victory with significant implications across the league.
