The XFL is Back!

January 25, 2018

Stamford, CT – Vince McMahon is giving it another shot, announcing the founding of a new football league set to kick off on February 9, 2019. McMahon announced the new league, a league completely independent of the NFL would be “tasked with re-imagining the game of football.” Standing beside him were Charlie Ebersol, son of the initial XFL Co-Founder Dick Ebersol, Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Polian, four-time All-Pro Jared Allen and two-time Super Bowl champions Justin Tuck and Troy Polamalu.

The XFL will bring a new business model to the forefront of professional sports. McMahon announced that the league would initially be operated as a dual entity, with the league owning the rights to the teams, players and coaches under the corporate names, Alpha Entertainment LLC(McMahon) and Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC(Ebersol) as the two ownership groups have already committed 300 million dollars to the new league, enough to finance the league according to McMahon for it’s first three seasons. The league does plan to move towards a hybrid franchise model starting in year two with more investors as team owners begin to join.

The XFL will feature high-quality professional football and forge a dynamic alliance between fans, players and the game. Fans will be able to stream XFL matchups live via the free XFL app, in a first for professional football while also accessing integrated fantasy options with real rewards, for themselves and the players they are cheering on. "The XFL represents a fundamental shift in the way we approach professional sports," said Ebersol. "We believe fans and players are what's most important, so our approach is simple, we've created a league where fans and players share in the success of their teams. Players have our commitment that we will seek the highest degree of safety and our support as we continue to invest in their success off the field with post-football career scholarships and financial wellness programs. With the expertise of Bill Polian and a leadership team of respected former All-Pro players and executives, we are committed to putting the best football product possible on the field every weekend, ensuring that 2018 will be the final year fans have to experience a six-month period without football."

"There is a significant amount of football talent looking to begin or extend their professional careers. The XFL will provide those players with a new opportunity to compete at a high level," said Polian. "Our players and fans are the lifeblood of the XFL and we will treat them as such. We will give players an opportunity to flourish on the field while establishing plans to support their personal and professional growth, health, safety and financial well-being. This is our commitment to them and will result in an exciting pro football product on the field that fans across the nation and in our markets can rally around."

Ebersol then spent considerable time outlining the major tenets of the new league, among them we highlight the following:
-- An 8 team league to play a 10 game season from early February into May, concluding with a 4 team playoff and the XFL Championship game.
-- Television rights are still in the negotiation stage with major outlets.
-- Teams, along with their coaching staffs, venues and identities will be announced over the next twelve weeks with all teams expected to have full operations ready to go for ticket sales by August of 2018 and player allocations in November.
-- Each team will have a roster size of 50 players. The XFL will pay a "non-negotiable" standardized player salary of $37,500($1,875,000 per team).
-- Each team will be allowed to sign a Quarterback for up to $500,000 prior the initial XFL Draft.
-- The objective of every XFL player will be to win games. XFL players will be paid salaries to play, but they’ll be paid more to win. Each week the winning teams will share in a victory bonus pool, giving added significance to each week’s matchups.
-- The coaching salaries varied by title, with $500,000 for head coaches, $200–250,000 for coordinators, and $75–100,000 for position coaches. Each team will employ ten total coaches, putting the total coaching staff expenditures at around $2 million per staff and $16 million for the entire league.
-- Players and coaches under contract will be permitted to sign with the NFL or CFL but only after the conclusion of the XFL Championship game.
-- The league is open to allowing collegiate underclassmen to sign and enter the XFL Draft.
-- The league has already hired several members of its football operations team, including the league’s CEO and Director of Football Operations, Bill Polian, Director of Officiating, Mike Pereira, Head of Business Operations, Tom Veit, V.P. of Player Personnel, Bill Kuharich, with Jared Allen, Troy Polamalu, Justin Tuck and Hines Ward serving as player relations executives.

"I was fortunate to live my dream of playing professional football for 12 years and I am eager to use my experience to help shape the XFL in a way that will create the best possible environment for players," said Allen. "As a former player, the XFL's emphasis on player well-being on and off the field is something I'm proud to be a part of. Beyond that, as a fan of the sport, I'm looking forward to having football in the spring. The XFL will provide unique opportunities to players who are still pursuing their dream, looking for a second chance to showcase their talents or aiming to extend their careers."

"The XFL is a new venture of affordable entertainment that will take advantage of the abundance of athletic football talent available and will provide it to more fans in more cities," said McMahon. "We are encouraged by the overwhelming response from potential owners and stadium operators and are anxious to begin building XFL franchises in various cities across the country, and possibly abroad."

Oliver Luck Named XFL Commissioner

February 20, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL announced that former NFL and NCAA executive and quarterback Oliver Luck has been named the league's Commissioner. Earlier in his career, Luck served as President of NFL Europe and General Manager of the league's Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein Fire. Most recently Luck was the NCAA's Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Strategic Partnerships where he oversaw all NCAA regulatory functions including enforcement, academic and membership affairs, and the Eligibility Center.

"Oliver and I share the same vision and passion for reimagining the game of football," said Vince McMahon, XFL co-founder. "His experience as both an athlete and executive will ensure the long-term success of the XFL."

"Football has always been a constant in my life and I'm excited about the unique opportunity to present America's favorite sport to fans in a new way," said Oliver Luck. "The XFL will create first-class organizations that local cities across the country will be proud of."

XFL Adds NFL-Experienced Executives

March 4, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL announced that sports industry veteran Jeffrey Pollack has been named President & Chief Operating Officer and will oversee the league's strategic planning and business operations, as well as the management of its eight teams. A couple of recent NFC North head coaches, Jim Caldwell, who was fired by the Lions this offseason, and John Fox, who was fired by the Bears, are both consulting the league on their coach search. JK McKay, who has been around the game of football his whole life as a player and executive, will assist football operations.

"Just as Oliver Luck is perfectly suited to be Commissioner, so too is Jeffrey Pollack suited perfectly to be XFL President & COO with his extraordinary experience and diverse background across a variety of global sports properties," said Vince McMahon, XFL Founder & Chairman. "I have no doubt that Oliver and Jeffrey will successfully reimagine the game of football and guide the XFL to long-term success."

"It's not often that a new professional sports league is positioned for success like the XFL," said Pollack. "There's a clear vision for what we will offer our fans, players and partners, and I look forward to working closely with Vince and Oliver to bring that vision to life."

Paid to Play, Paid More to Win

March 15, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL salary scale is unique, and may prove to be beneficial to many players, especially the ones who play on winning teams. The league has stated that they will be paying a base salary of $37,500 for each player this season. There is also an incentive plan, with players on teams that win getting more cash. Of course it is the incentives that make this league worthwhile. After each winning game, winning team will split $100,000. The team that wins the championship will split an additional bonus of $1,000,000. On a 50 man roster, these incentives can add up in a hurry. For example, a regular player who plays on a winning team, with an 7-3 record for example, and that goes on to win the championship will actually make about $60,000. The potential is there for a player to almost double his base salary. On the other hand, a player on a losing team, with a 3-7 record for example, and that misses the playoffs, would make about $45,000. Not too bad for three months work.

CBS Sports Network Signs Television Agreement with XFL

March 28, 2018

Stamford, CT – CBS Sports Network and the XFL announced a two-year agreement that makes the Network the national television partner of the XFL. CBS Sports Network will feature 20 regular-season games throughout the 2019 season, as well as two playoff games. As part of the deal, CBS Sports Network will televise the league’s Saturday night game of the week in prime time.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have the CBS Sports brand associated with the XFL and to have the growing CBS Sports Network as the new television home of our league,” XFL Director of Football Operation Bill Polian said. “One of the many noteworthy aspects of this partnership is that we will have an increased ability to showcase our West Coast teams. XFL on CBS is something that our millions of fans can look forward to with great anticipation.”

"As the XFL launches next February we are excited to become the official television partner, adding more football to our robust programming line-up with a great package of regular-season spring football on CBS Sports Network," said Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports. "With Oliver Luck and Bill Polian at the helm we are confident that the product they will deliver will be entertaining, exciting, engaging and something that fans will really enjoy.

XFL Almost Ready to Reveal Inaugural Locations and Teams

April 2, 2018

Stamford, CT – A planned competitor to the National Football League has identified the eight markets it would like to open with next year, and hopes to unveil some of the locations in the next month. “I think we’re going to have an announcement, probably later this month, relative to the first three or four teams,” XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck said. “Once we do that, you’ll know more about where we stand with respect to the rest of them.”

The XFL, with initial funding from Vince McMahon and Charlie Ebersol, said it would begin play with eight teams in February 2019. However, they believe a successful season will attract owner-investors, help negotiate a bigger TV broadcast deal and build league branding, Luck said in an interview on NBC. "McMahon and Ebersol is very serious about the XFL, and others may join him soon."

Luck declined to reveal other owner names, but said “they’re well known, very financially strong people who either have some ownership interest in football or hockey primarily.” He said each owner would put up at least $10 million initially, and they have been told to expect losses of $10 million to $20 million a year for the first three years. Profits would follow somewhere in the third to fifth years. The plan is to begin with eight teams, mostly in markets not served by the NFL. While Luck said no stadium deals have been officially signed, the XFL has agreements with six stadiums. He said the XFL is talking with cities about using their stadiums in deals under which the XFL would pay a facility fee and share revenue generated on football game days. Luck said past NFL rivals failed due to overspending, unrealistic expectations and overly gimmicky approaches. The XFL, however, will have a salary cap and is assuming average per-game attendance conservatively at 20,000.

“We’re much more realistic in our expectations. We’re managing our costs better than I think the other failed leagues did. The XFL will not spend heavily on a few star players like the USFL did. The XFL model is based on attracting players from the bottom half of NFL rosters, many of whom have turned into NFL stars when given a chance to play. The XFL will aim to be more innovative, possibly putting microchips in balls to help referees with ball placement, as well as embracing the betting side of the sport by allowing broadcasters to talk openly about point spreads. We’re obviously going to make sure we protect the integrity of the game, but it’s foolish not to think the NFL hasn’t made a significant amount of revenue off its television product because there are wagers on the games,” Luck said.

"I'm psyched to reveal the cities that our players will have the chance to represent and compete in. This will be another massive moment for the XFL, and I'm ready to feel the electricity our dedicated fans will bring to these iconic venues," added McMahon. "There is great energy building within our league and there is still much more to come and I can promise it's going to be worth the wait. We have been working on fresh, new logos and uniforms that will match the dynamic and innovative vision of our league. We see you, we hear you and your excitement fuels us to continue to bring you the absolute best. We have just under seven months until kickoff and the countdown is officially on."

XFL Announces Head Coaches

April 10, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL is excited to announce that it has selected eight highly qualified and well-respected head coaches for its 2019 season. The head coaches include leaders across collegiate and professional football, including Steve Spurrier, Tim Lewis, Dennis Erickson, Mike Martz, Mike Riley, Mike Singletary, Rick Neuheisel and Brad Childress. This group not only shares the XFL's passion for sport and innovation, but brings the football pedigree, leadership experience and visionary outlook needed to play an active role in the building of the league and development of the players.

"Our head coaches are a group of leaders, champions and hall of famers with experience competing and coaching at the highest level in football. Not only will they be mentors to our players, but they are also ambassadors of the XFL as we work together to build tomorrow's league," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "What is most exciting about our talented coaches is that they all share our vision for the XFL and are committed to advancing the game of football for players and making it into a must-watch program for fans. The XFL is anchored in the belief of opportunity, and, just like our players, these football legends will drive the future of the game."

"We've brought together a respected group of coaches with elite football experiences, proven track records of success and a passion for the game. Our executives were a big part of the recruitment process, identifying true leaders in the sport that aligned with our vision and bring the best of the best to the XFL," said Vince McMahon, Co-Founder. "I look forward to collaborating with each of them and witnessing the active role they play in shaping their respective teams."

"This is yet another huge moment for the XFL. I have experienced first-hand the positive influence and impact that coaches can have on a player's life, and with our group of smart, accomplished and motivating head coaches, I expect nothing less. Not only will these coaches be mentors to our players, but they will be a big part of the cities in which we will operate. Stay tuned," said Bill Polian, Director of the Football Operations.

"When seeking coaches for the XFL we set out to find the most outstanding individuals to lead our teams," said XFL Co-Founder Charlie Ebersol. "We sought leaders with successful NFL backgrounds, who were excellent communicators and teachers of the game and were excited about building new franchises. We were fortunate to find four individuals who embody these attributes. These men are truly winners in every sense of the word."

“I have been following the formation of the XFL closely,” Riley said. “I believe the football on the field is going to be first class, and I am happy to get in on the ground floor of this league.”

Orlando Becomes First City to Join XFL

April 17, 2018

Orlando, FL – The XFL and Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC awarded the city of Orlando the league's first franchise, the Orlando Apollos, and announced that the team would be helmed by coaching legend Steve Spurrier. Orlando appears to be a wise choice as its first city. Orlando has a long history of showing support for other football leagues. Naming Spurrier as its head coach gives it instant credibility as the area is rife with Florida Gators fans.

"When reviewing markets for the XFL, we focused on cities who were looking for more football. Orlando has already proven to be a passionate, loyal and engaged fan base that loves the game, yet they don't have a professional football team to call their own. Well, we're not just bringing professional football to town, we're bringing the Head Ball Coach with us, a true Florida legend," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner.

The sun doesn't set on football in early February anymore. Inspired by Apollo, the Greek god of sun. The sunshine state's new professional football franchise is a glowing testament to the power, imagery and energy made possible by the sun. The Orlando Apollos' colors - navy blue, dark orange and bright orange - are reflective of the warm Florida sunshine. The Apollos are poised with otherworldly strength, aggression and energy with its arrow pointed firmly toward a championship. And it all launches on the 50th year anniversary of the most extraordinary American Apollo mission to the Moon.

Based on history, Steve Spurrier will likely compile a high-powered offense for Orlando fans to enjoy. Also, many players will have an interest in playing for him knowing that doing so could help them either get back to the NFL or move up to it. The squad will play at Spectrum Stadium, home of the Central Florida Knights football team, for the 2019 season. Tim Ruskell will serve as the general manager. Ruskell has 35 years of experience in football, serving as GM of the Seattle Seahawks from 2005 through 2009.

"What first captured my attention was Vince and Charlie's commitment to putting top-flight, professional football on the field and creating a true alliance between fans, players and the game. The XFL offers a unique opportunity to get back into coaching, this time for a spring season, and work closely with hungry, talented athletes looking to begin, revive or extend their professional careers. The fact I can do this in Orlando makes it that much sweeter. I'm fired up and ready to go," said Steve Spurrier, Orlando Apollos head coach.

XFL Adds Atlanta as Second Market

April 28, 2018

Atlanta, GA – The XFL along with Alpha Entertainment LLC added the league's second franchise yesterday, announcing the Atlanta Alphas will play in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia State Stadium. Brad Childress was named the team's head coach and Michael Vick was tabbed the offensive coordinator. Georgia State stadium will give Atlanta fans a close view of the action. If they sell out the 24,333 capacity venue, the intimate setting could give them a good home field advantage. The stadium's size is similar to what the XFL San Francisco Demons experienced in 2001 at Pacific Bell Park. It was the smallest stadium in the XFL, but the Demons had the highest average attendance at 34,954. Demons fans were also very close to the action. Atlanta is a top 10 television market which will make broadcast partner CBS happy.

Players come and go, alphas live forever. Atlanta is a city of alphas, those who are heroic, larger-than-life, celebrated and storied on and off the field. From Hank Aaron and Chipper Jones to our very own Michael Vick, the greats come to Atlanta to be immortalized. Some of the biggest legends of the civil rights movement have called Atlanta home. Centennial Park stands as a monument to the achievements of Olympic alphas. Atlanta houses legendary establishments such as the historic Fox Theatre. This is where legends are made. This is where the Atlanta Alphas will make their mark.

"This was a very unique opportunity for me to get back into coaching. I've been privileged in my 30-year coaching career to be around some of the top coaching minds," said Childress. "When I was looking to put together my staff in Atlanta, I wanted to find a good mix of experience. This group of coaches in Atlanta have coached and played in the NFL and coached and played in Arena football. These coaches are going to give our players a great opportunity to excel at each of their positions. Offensively, we're going to be a fast paced, up tempo variation of the west coast offense that Michael Vick played in and will now coach in, stretching people from sideline to sideline. Defensively, we're going to be physical and aggressive. We're going to have a fun brand of football for our Alphas fans."

"I've always had a passion for teaching, a passion for coaching," Vick said. "When Brad called me about this opportunity, I felt like it was obviously something I couldn't pass up. This is his team. I'm just a guy here to help players develop. Obviously to dive into the offense and make suggestions, be a crutch for Coach, but we're going to follow his lead. When he thinks I'm ready I'll graduate to the next level along with everybody else."

"The selection process of naming each XFL team began by listening to our fans and working with each city to hear their suggestions and determine a long list of great ideas," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "After we culled that list down through local market research, testing and a dynamic group of advisers in each city, we had our short list. Then, more testing, and ultimately, we had some decisions to make. We feel strongly that our team names identify with the great cities we call home to our teams and positively represent the region and our fans."

Memphis awarded XFL team

May 5, 2018

Memphis, TN – Frederick W. Smith along with FedEx Express Sports LLC is bringing the XFL and the Memphis Express to the city of Memphis. Continuing it's string of well-known coaches, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck announced NFL legend Mike Singletary as Memphis' head coach. With his strong background on defense, Memphis could have one of the stingiest squads in the XFL.

Memphis has become one of the nation's leading centers for transportation and logistics. Here, things move swiftly and purposefully with the goal of achieving awesome results and constantly raising the bar to new heights. The Memphis Express will be no different. America's largest small town will be decked out in red, navy blue and white, on the ground and through the air, the Memphis Express will operate with precision and urgency with visions of a championship fueling a run to the top.

Smith, the founder of FedEx, was the owner of the CFL's Memphis Mad Dogs in 1995. Steve Ehrhart, who served as general manager for those Mad Dogs, along with the USFL Memphis Showboats and XFL Memphis Maniax was announced as the team's general manager. The team president of the Memphis franchise is Kosha Irby, a former Memphis player who was a Regional Director for live events with the WWE. The team will be playing its games at the 58,207-seat Liberty Bowl, which has hosted all Memphis' outdoor teams over the years.

"Memphis is often referred to as 'America's largest small town,'" said Smith. "It is a vibrant city full of culture and spirit, with so much to do and see, while at the same time, it's a such a strong, tight-knit community. It's no surprise that the city's millennial population has grown significantly over the years. With Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium packed each week in support of the Memphis Tigers, we're excited to bring more football to town and integrate the team into this community on and off the field with Coach Singletary leading the way. Coach Singletary brings a level of passion and a love for the game that is hard to come by. Having Kosha Irby on board as president solidifies the team's leadership. His sports business experience will help drive long-term success and sustainability. We look forward to seeing Memphis compete for a championship in 2019 and beyond."

"Mike is a passionate, dedicated and intelligent leader. During his hall-of-fame career he played with an unmatched level of intensity that served as the catalyst for a historic, Super Bowl winning defense. He brings the same leadership qualities to the sidelines," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "His experience as a player and head coach will be invaluable to Express players and will have them in position to succeed on and off the field."

"I took tremendous pride in leading, teaching and competing during my playing days, and that experience prepared me for my coaching career. I enjoy working closely with players and doing everything possible to set them up for success on and off the field. This is an opportunity to do that again at the professional level, and I'm excited to get started," said Singletary. "From day one, I was intrigued by Oliver and Bill's commitment to putting high quality football on the field in the spring, fueled by an alliance between players, fans and the game. The foundation is set, and now it's about putting a team together here in Memphis that will compete for a championship."

St. Louis Becomes XFL's First Western Outpost

May 17, 2018

St. Louis, MO – Former St. Louis Ram Long Snapper Andrew Kline and Park Lane Sports and Entertainment LLC are proud to announce they were granted the XFL's fourth market for the 2019 season and that they would be bringing the Stallions to St. Louis. Dennis Erickson was unveiled as the team's head coach. “The NFL took the Rams from us in 2015, but I'll be bringing the Stallions back to the city in 2018. I know how much this city loves football and I couldn't be more excited to return the game back to these great people,” said Kline.

The name Stallions honors the spirit of the region and the rumbling presence of horsepower.. A stallion is a powerful, fast and muscular horse, reflective of the power and conditioning required of professional football players. The logo is inspired by car hood ornaments and automotive indicia that adorns some of history's fastest and most famous cars. Speed, power, performance and muscle, this is the St. Louis Stallions.

Kline played three seasons for the NFL St. Louis Rams as their starting Long Snapper before retiring from football to become the founder and managing director of Park Lane Sports and Entertainment Inc., an investment bank, that provide advisory serves to professional sports teams, and sport based businesses. The St. Louis team will play in The Dome at America’s Center, the former home of the Rams. "The Gateway to the West, St. Louis represents opportunity, promise, and a legacy of great football. We are proud to restore the river city’s rightful place among pro football cities and we will not stop there. We pledge to bring St. Louis a team deserving of a passionate and football-starved fan base. In 2019, St. Louis will once again have its day in the world of professional football," said XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck.

"We have been very deliberate with the cities we've chosen to represent the XFL in our first year and we see St. Louis as the perfect backdrop to introduce high-quality, professional football next spring. As one of the fastest-growing American cities, it's backed by an ever-rising millennial population and an incredibly ardent fan base," said Charlie Ebersol, XFL Co-Founder. "Up until now, since the Rams left for Los Angeles, there have been no other football options for such a burgeoning city that has so much passion for the game. We are proud to say this changes with today's introduction of the Stallions and Dennis Erickson as head coach."

"Dennis is a two-time National Champion and one of the most respected coaches of our time. His experience at the collegiate and professional level makes him an ideal fit to come in and lead these young men looking to begin, extend and/or revitalize their professional careers," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "He is passionate about the game and we're excited to have him on the sidelines again."

"I've been around the game of football my entire life. My father was a coach, I played the quarterback position through college, and of course, I've been coaching for nearly 50 years. My passion for football and teaching the game has never wavered and the XFL is the perfect opportunity to get back on the sidelines and continue doing what I love," said Erickson. "I'm excited to return to St. Louis, where I've seen first-hand the passion the city has for the game. The XFL is about building a dynamic relationship between players, fans and the game, and I'm looking forward to the Stallions being active in this community and competing for a championship."

XFL says League Open to Players like Colin Kaepernick

May 18, 2018

Salt Lake City, UT – Charlie Ebersol, XFL Co-Founder, said that his league would be open to players who take social stances such as Colin Kaepernick. “Best available players,” Ebersol said. “You show up and you can play and you want to play in our league, then we want to talk to you.”

Kaepernick has sued the NFL for collusion, saying team owners have conspired to keep him out of the league. Kaepernick’s kneeling protest during the national anthem over heavy-handed police tactics in minority communities became a flash point last season when President Donald Trump called on NFL owners to cut demonstrating players. Ebersol, for his part, said players who are good enough to play should have an opportunity. “I think the conversation has moved past what’s happening on the field,” Ebersol said. “And I think that we need to talk about what’s gonna happen between the white lines. Let’s start there, and then we’ll talk about other stuff. The way we’re structuring our relationship with players, that alliance that I talk about, starts with the idea that we’re gonna listen. We hope they’re gonna listen. And we’re gonna play together.”

He added that teams would have a say in player personnel matters. “I also want to put it in the coaches’ hands to go out and find the players that they think are going to best represent what they’re trying to build,” Ebersol said.

XFL Looks to Conquer Mexico City

May 20, 2018

Mexico City, MEXICO – Gavin Maloof, alongside his brothers with the Maloof Sports LLC, the former owners of the NBA's Sacramento Kings and WNBA Sacramento Monarchs, and the XFL introduced Mexico City, it's fifth market to date and unveiled Rick Neuheisel as head coach. The Mexico City Conquerors will play their home games at Estadio Azteca Stadium. "Mexico City expects the XFL to pump $10 million into the local economy," said XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck. “Mexico City is a natural home for the XFL in that it is a major market that we believe will support a professional football team and we are excited to be here. We are bringing sports fans in the area an exciting and high-quality product on the field at an affordable price and hope they will embrace the team who will become a part of the local community. Tickets will cost $25."

"We wanted to grow the game of football, and the addition of Mexico City, a booming metropolitan area with a passionate fan base across, is another step in the right direction," said Vince McMahon, XFL Co-Founder. "Fan engagement is critical to our success and we look forward to this city embracing the experience and fueling the league. Estadio Azteca is the perfect home for the Conquerors. There is a lot of positive momentum happening with the city, and this addition adds fuel to that fire. With Coach Neuheisel at the helm, there will be high-quality football in Mexico City. I can't wait to start seeing fans wearing their team colors and joining our league."

"Rick Neuheisel's experience playing and coaching at both the professional and collegiate level is something we value. We believe he will come in and motivate, teach and lead a hungry group of players looking for an opportunity to begin, extend and/or revive their professional careers," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "We're committed to putting top-flight football on the field and look forward to Rick getting in there and implementing his system."

"The XFL's emphasis on building a dynamic relationship between players, fans and the game is what immediately grabbed my attention. There is nothing like experiencing the thrill of victory and agony of defeat together. We all invest so much into the game, and that's something I've missed over the years away from the sidelines," said Neuheisel. "The combination of a passionate fan base and motivated, talented players looking to make a name for themselves on the professional level will result in exciting football this spring, with the ultimate goal being to bring home the first XFL Championship."

XFL Unveils the San Diego Fleet and Mike Martz

May 31, 2018

San Diego, CA – The XFL and Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC introduced San Diego as it's sixth city and unveiled Mike Martz as head coach of the San Diego Fleet. The San Diego Fleet pays homage to San Diego's strong and inspired Naval community. Unique to professional sports, the San Diego Fleet will wear colors representative of the city's bright yellow sunny skies and the gray tones of their iconic Navy ships. The shape of the team's logo resembles patches seen on Navy uniforms and the typography is inspired by the numbers commonly seen on the sides of Navy ships. With honor, integrity and firepower, the players and fans of the San Diego Fleet will bring the excitement and comradery each week as professional football returns to America's Finest City.

The Fleet's home games will be played at San Diego County Credit Union Stadium, host to San Diego State University Aztecs football. Martz’s coaching staff will be filled with many prominent names with NFL backgrounds as well. Jon Kitna will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator with former Rams and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Larry Marmie serving as the team’s defensive coordinator. Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jackie Slater, TJ Houshmandzadeh and Dre Bly will also coach on Martz’s staff.

"From the moment Bill Polian and I began discussing our vision for the XFL, San Diego was one of the first markets we discussed because of the city's love for the game," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "San Diego has a proven fan base that has displayed unwavering support and enthusiasm for their professional and collegiate football teams. 40,000 plus fans pour into SDCCU Stadium for Aztecs games. We're excited to bring more football here and become ingrained in this community. There is a tremendous amount of football talent out there and the XFL."

"Mike is a Super Bowl champion with nearly 20 years of coaching experience at the professional level. We're excited for the city of San Diego and the coaches and players that will benefit from having someone with his pedigree at the helm," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "San Diego is hungry for top-flight football, and we're confident Mike is the right person to lead the way. The league represents an opportunity to begin, extend and/or revitalize professional careers. Mike Martz has first-hand experience in this regard, having fostered the growth of an undrafted, overlooked journeyman quarterback into a Super Bowl winning MVP. We look forward to creating similar stories."

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to get back on the sidelines in my hometown of San Diego. This city is very special to me. It's where I grew up, started my collegiate career and met and married my wife. I would love nothing more than to bring a championship here," said Martz. "The people of San Diego love football, and I'm committed to putting a product on the field that they will be proud to support. The XFL leadership share in that commitment. One of the many reasons I decided to take on this challenge was Charlie and Vince's commitment to putting high-quality football out on the field. I can't wait to get started."

The XFL Introduces Their Seventh Team, Birmingham Iron

June 6, 2018

Birmingham, AL – The XFL and Alpha Entertainment LLC introduced the league's seventh team, the Birmingham Iron and unveiled Tim Lewis as head coach with Joe Pendry as general manager and offensive line coach. Iron home games will be played at legendary Legion Field Stadium, home to the UAB Blazers, while the city's new downtown stadium is constructed.

The Birmingham Iron pays tribute to the hard working steel workers who provided the Iron that fueled the industrial revolution. The people of Birmingham are tough, hard working, passionate, strong and dependable, attributes that will quickly become synonymous with the Birmingham Iron. The team colors - black, steel grey and brushed silver - are derived from the three elements needed to make steel, Iron Ore, Coal and Flux. The logo, a stylized football, pays tribute to the passionate football fans of Alabama.

"Birmingham is the largest city in one of the most-populated states without a professional sports team. For a market with such a passion for the game of football, we knew early on that we needed to address that and expand the football offering for fans," said Charlie Ebersol, XFL Co-Founder. "There are a number of exciting changes happening in Birmingham that make it an ideal destination for a professional sports team, including a new stadium currently under construction. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the community and I know this community will rally around and support the Iron. Our league is driven by opportunity. The XFL is an opportunity for players to begin, extend and/or revitalize their careers. It's also an opportunity for coaches, especially those who have long deserved a head coaching position to take their next step. Tim Lewis is a respected and accomplished coach and I cannot wait to see him take the field in February as head coach."

"Tim's experience as a player and coach in the NFL is invaluable, both for the XFL and the players he will be leading in Birmingham," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "He started coaching at a very young age and has since displayed leadership qualities that make players want to win for and learn from him. He is deserving of a head coaching role, and we're pleased to have him on our sidelines competing for a championship."

"The XFL is an opportunity for me to take the next step in my coaching career. The organization's leadership team has communicated an unwavering commitment to putting high quality, professional football on the field, which immediately captured my attention and interest," said Lewis. "I look forward to working closely with a group of hungry, talented players and making a mark in year one. This region produces high-caliber football players, many of whom haven't had a chance to really prove themselves on the field at the professional level. They'll get to show what they can do here and I'm committed to helping them succeed on and off the field, while making a positive impact in this community."

"We have placed an emphasis on bringing in front office staff with the experience needed to identify top talent and build a highly competitive team, and that's reflected here," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "Joe has spent over forty years on college and NFL sidelines working closely with players and knows what it takes to build a strong team and compete at a high level. With Joe Pendry, Trey Brown and Tim Lewis at the helm, we look forward to seeing what the Iron can achieve on and off the field."

"This is an amazing opportunity to build something special here in Birmingham, Alabama, and the work is already underway," said Pendry. "Football is king in Alabama and we know when it comes time for our first snap, we'll have a loyal and energetic fanbase behind us. We are committed to putting a product on the field that they will be proud to support."

XFL Introduces San Antonio Commanders, Final Team for Inaugural Season

June 21, 2018

San Antonio, TX – The XFL and Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC introduced the San Antonio Commanders and unveiled Mike Riley as head coach during a press conference held at the Alamodome, which will serve as home field for the city's newest professional sports team. Former Dallas Cowboys great Daryl Johnston will serve as General Manager of the San Antonio franchise. San Antonio is the eighth and final city for the XFL's inaugural season, joining Orlando, Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis, Mexico City, San Diego and Birmingham.

For over 300 years, San Antonio has had a constant military presence with one of the nation's largest active and retired military populations in the United States. The San Antonio Commanders honor the heroic leaders in the United States Air Force and United States Army who have dedicated their lives to service and sacrifice for this great country. The team colors feature maroon, a color used in the official city logo, silver, in reference to dress military swords carried by officers, and the familiar red of the Texas state flag. The shape of the logo is representative of a military patch and includes a depiction of the Alamo, a profound symbol for the city of San Antonio. The single star is a nod to the Lone Star state. The Commanders will make Military City, USA proud through teamwork, resolve, innovation, sacrifice and results.

"San Antonio has always been on the top of our list as a city that's hungry for football, in a state that's crazy about the game. We're confident our commitment to putting high-quality football on the field, fueled by an alliance between fans, players and the game, will resonate with this community. The city of San Antonio is ready for a professional football team and we feel honored to be welcomed into their dynamic city," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "Not only does San Antonio have a large population of football fans, it has a first-class stadium to host them in. The Alamodome is a perfect backdrop for XFL San Antonio, and we are eager to give this city a competitive team, led by coach Mike Riley, that they can rally around and support. We are proud to work with eight fantastic cities. The selected cities expressed a commitment to forging a partnership and have a passion and love for the game of football. The reception we have felt at each unveil has been tremendous, and is just a taste of what's to come."

"Early on in our process we identified markets that we felt would make ideal destinations for our first eight cities and San Antonio has always been part of that dialogue," said Tom Veit, XFL Head of Business Operations. "With so many great cities coming forward and many strong relationships being established, we are now confident that we not only have our first eight cities for year one, but a number of strong candidates for 2020."

"Mike's extensive experience coaching both sides of the ball at the collegiate and professional level will greatly benefit the San Antonio Commanders," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of football. "This is an opportunity for Mike to return to the pros and continue teaching, mentoring and leading from the sidelines."

"From top to bottom, the XFL has assembled an impressive roster of successful, knowledgeable, highly credible executives and coaches. It's indicative of the commitment the XFL has to putting high-quality football on the field, and I'm proud to be a part of this," said Riley. "I want to bring a championship to this football hungry city, and I look forward to working closely with Daryl Johnston to build a championship caliber team. This is a unique opportunity for myself and the players that will step on the field for the Commanders, and we intend on making the most of it."

"The XFL provides an opportunity for players to begin, extend or restart their careers," said Johnston. "There are so many talented athletes who are right on the cusp of making an NFL roster but for one reason or another end up on a practice squad or out of football completely. We're going to give them the chance to show the football world what they can do, that they do belong. A number of these guys are from the great state of Texas, where football is a way of life, and we look forward to having them in Commanders uniforms."

Childress Adds Experienced Group to Coach Alphas Along with Vick

June 15, 2018

Atlanta, GA - The Atlanta Alphas have named nine additional assistant coaches to join head coach Brad Childress' inaugural staff. Michael Vick had been previously announced as the Legends' offensive coordinator. The Alphas have added Kevin Coyle(DC), Ken Zampese(QBs), Jim Hofher(WRs), Pete Metzelaars(OL), John Johnson(RBs), Corey Woods(TEs) and Leroy Thompson(DL) to the coaching staff.

XFL Partners with Optimum Scouting for Player Evaluation

June 25, 2018

Las Vegas, NV – The XFL announced an agreement with Optimum Scouting, a comprehensive football consulting business, to provide the league with extensive talent evaluation and scouting services. Optimum Scouting's approach focuses on player evaluation, with year-round input using predictive analytics, to provide insight and decision-making tools.

"The XFL's first priority is to offer fans the highest quality, best on-field product possible," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "To accomplish this, we plan to work extremely hard to uncover hidden, overlooked talent, which is what Optimum Scouting is best known for doing. We look forward to working closely with them as we establish our player acquisition process over the next several months."

"The talent evaluation process for the XFL is more than simply evaluating and signing players," said Eric Galko, President, Optimum Scouting. "It's about being efficient, analytical, and thorough in our evaluations to find the top players available to the XFL. Along with great ability and experience, Optimum Scouting focuses on identifying competitive, high character and motivated players and we are excited to be partnering with the XFL to help them reimagine football."

XFL Tryouts Attract More Than 1,000 Players

July 20, 2018

Stamford, CT - The XFL teams building their rosters for the inaugural season attracted more than 1,000 players hoping to earn a professional football contract to open tryouts in five cities. "That was a very good group of guys and there is a lot of potential there," said Mexico City head coach Rick Neuheisel. "When you are testing these players you want to see how they take to coaching and see if a player is able to do what you're teaching him. Now we will go back and discuss the players who were here and see how they meet the needs we have on our roster. Once we have done that and watched film, I am sure a good number of them will be invited to training camp."

"Without question we saw some guys that we are going to bring back for further evaluation," said Apollos head coach Steve Spurrier. "A razor thin margin separates many of these athletes and that makes the evaluation process difficult. But that certainly is a good problem to have. Our only goal right now is to identify and sign the very best players we can for the start of training camp in January. These open tryouts and private workouts are an important part of that process."

"There really is a lot of talent out there. I've been saying to the fans that they're going to see something that they'll be pleasantly surprised by," said Fleet head coach Mike Martz.

Fans attending the tryouts liked what they saw. "It is about time for a pro football league like the XFL," said XFL fan Tim Casey, "this is affordable and in your face football."

Luck Believes There's lots of Talent Available for the XFL

August 5, 2018

Stamford, CT – With locations now picked and teams formed, each franchise’s individual front office will be responsible for crafting a roster, with a draft being scheduled as opposed to players being allocated to a team. “We want this league to have legitimate integrity and legitimate competition,” XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck said. “There’s no better way to get the competitive juices of eight coaching staffs going.”

As far as the talent pool available is concerned, Luck has no doubt that there will be more than enough players capable of competing at a high level. “There are more better college players coming out that are just not good enough for the NFL,” Luck said. “They may be too light, they may be an inch or two too short, they may be a little bit too slow to play or don’t have the size to come off the edge as an outside linebacker. But these guys were college all-conference players and in some cases college All-Americans. Doug Flutie would be the perfect player for a league like the XFL. Noting a recent lunch he had with Flutie to gain some insight. He’s an undersized guy who wasn’t that statuesque 6-4, 240-pound quarterback, but, gosh, was he fun to watch and he made things happen. I believe because of the growth and success in the last 15 or 20 years of college football there are more and more players with a name brand coming out of college who won’t make the NFL. We’ll look to get the best players we can possibly get. If the best player is playing minor league baseball, trying to work his way up but is still interested in football, or somebody is trying to reclaim his career by playing up in the CFL, we’ll certainly take a look at those type of guys.”

One thing that could be a unique aspect of the XFL is the lack of the NFL’s age requirement. “What’s very interesting — and most folks don’t realize this — is that no other professional football league is subject to the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement,” Luck said. “That’s the agreement between the players’ union and the NFL which lays the requirement to be out of high school for three years. Maybe we’ll decide at some point to take guys who are two years out of college. There are plenty of guys at that point who, because of injuries and wear and tear on their bodies, they may want to say, ‘listen, I’d rather play a year in the XFL, be a professional athlete and get compensated as opposed to a third year in college.’ But those are things we haven’t decided yet. That’s what we need to do, because the American public wants more football in the spring, but they want quality football. That’s important and that’s our goal.”

XFL Explains Player Allocation Process

August 12, 2018

San Francisco, CA – Less than six months before the scheduled start of it's inaugural season, the XFL has rolled out details about player allocation, a combine and salary expectations. XFL Head of Football Bill Polian, an ESPN NFL analyst, said the league will give players three-year, non-guaranteed contracts worth $175,000 each. Players can leave the league to go to the NFL. Polian said it's currently unclear whether a player's rights will revert back to the XFL after a three-year period expires or if the clock stops ticking on a team's three-year rights when a player gets "called up" to the big time.

Polian said a contract will include state-of-the-industry health insurance and an education stipend to any player who completes a year in the league. The XFL will scout players who don't make NFL and CFL teams. They will be allocated to rosters based primarily on where they played college, if there is an XFL team within a reasonable radius. When that isn't the case players will be allocated based on their most recent NFL or CFL team. Players whose college doesn't have an XFL affiliation and who haven't played in the NFL or CFL are eligible to be tendered a contract by any team.

"Players are allocated to our teams based on where they competed in college. If a player’s college is outside the XFL footprint, he will be allocated based on his most recent NFL/CFL team. If a player’s college is outside the XFL allocation footprint and he did not play in the NFL or CFL, then he is unallocated and available to be tendered a contract by any XFL team. If a player signs with the XFL and is then offered a contract to play in the National Football League, the player will be granted permission to pursue that opportunity."

"Each of our teams will have at least five colleges whose players become theirs, four designated NFL teams and a CFL team that is assigned," Polian said.

Polian said modeling suggested that this format would lead to a competitive league, taking into account that the Birmingham team, for example, wouldn't be loaded with Alabama players because many of those players actually make the NFL. The one exception the league has made is for quarterbacks: Teams can only take one former college quarterback in their region.

Polian said the college model will have immediate business implications for the teams. "If the Birmingham teams has Trent Richardson, we think that will be something that would be a significant gate attraction," Oliver Luck, XFL commissioner said. "Exceptional players can earn more than $200,000 per season.” Luck adds that the length of the contract “may vary from player to player.”

XFL Announces First 200 Players under Contract

August 17, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL begins play in February, less than six months from now. The spring league has announced the names of another 105 players for its eight teams. The XFL previously announced 100 players under contract. Highlights of the latest additions include receiver Stephen Hill (Atlanta), a former second-round pick of the Jets, linebacker Deontae Skinner (Birmingham), who played for multiple NFL teams, quarterback Zach Mettenberger (Memphis), running back Storm Johnson (Orlando), running back Daryl Richardson (San Antonio) and running back Khiry Robinson (Memphis).

All players currently under contract with the XFL are eligible to be signed by an NFL team. With NFL rosters maxed out at 90, however, and with each of those players already not in a training camp, the chances of getting a phone call are slim. More XFL players surely will be added when the NFL’s rosters shrink from 90 to 53 per team, flooding the market with guys who still want to play football.

XFL Names Team Presidents

August 20, 2018

Stamford, CT – The XFL has named seven Team Presidents who will lead all business operations for the XFL in their respective cities. The XFL announced that David Livingston (Atlanta), Tom Ward (Birmingham), Mike Waddell (Orlando), Scott Brubaker (Mexico City), Tyler Howard (St. Louis), Vic Gregovits (San Antonio) and Jeff Garner (San Diego) are joining Memphis team president Kosha Irby, who was announced in May.

"As we began our journey to find the right leader for each organization, we had a specific set of criteria that we felt was uniquely specific to each city," said Tom Veit, XFL Head of Business Operations. "Ultimately we were able to find an incredible group of team presidents that possess the intellect, leadership, and strategic mindset necessary to build our league. As we expand our footprint in each of our eight XFL markets, our team presidents will build thoughtful community partnerships to ensure we are active and engaged members building lasting and meaningful relationships."

XFL Strikes Multi-year Uniform, Apparel Deal with Starter

August 24, 2018

Stamford, CT – When the XFL debuts in February 2019, its uniforms and apparel will be provided by Starter as part of a multi-year deal.

"We're proud to bring Starter, an iconic brand with over 35 years of rich sports heritage, back to the football field," said Charlie Ebersol, co-founder of XFL. "A pioneer in the space, they were one of the first brands to be on the field and a must-have item for die-hard sports fans across the country. Starter has long been associated with your favorite sports teams, whether through the classic Starter Jacket or throwback uniforms. We look forward to taking our first snap with the instantly recognizable Starter logo emblazoned on our jerseys as well as on our sidelines."

XFL Announces Signing of Trent Richardson to Birmingham Iron

August 29, 2018

Birmingham, AL – The XFL announced that RB Trent Richardson has signed a player contract with Birmingham Iron. The 5-9, 225-pound Richardson joins the XFL after spending the first four professional seasons of his career in the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. Over the course of his NFL career, he appeared in 46 games with 37 starts. A dual threat out of the backfield, Richardson amassed 2,032 rushing yards on 614 carries (3.3 yard per carry average) and 17 touchdowns. He also pulled in 113 receptions for 912 yards and two touchdowns. Richardson was selected in the first round, third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft.

XFL Investor, MGM, and the XFL Partner on Sports Betting Technology

September 11, 2018

Las Vegas, NV – MGM Resorts International and the XFL, have entered into a transaction that includes an investment in the XFL and a three-year sponsorship establishing MGM Resorts as the official sports betting sponsor of the league and exclusive gaming partner.

For MGM Resorts, the investment represents its forward-looking view on the combination of live sports, real-time second generation stats, and fan engagement, either for fun or for those who may choose to wager. The XFL's new technology is revolutionary and will create a state-of-the-art experience for fans.

For the XFL, the partnership aligns the league with the best gaming operator in the country and gives the sports entity the ability to utilize MGM Resort's vast experience and industry-leading operations with mobile gaming. When the XFL takes the historic first snap in February 2019, fans will be able to stream matchups for free through our first-of-its-kind app, while accessing integrated gaming with real rewards, and now, in states where sports gambling is legal, sports betting platform owned and operated by MGM GVC Interactive will provide fans with in-game wagering while also still providing traditional sports betting.

"We are excited to team with the XFL on this unprecedented partnership, which allows us to fully engage with fans and revolutionize the fan experience," said MGM Resorts Chairman & CEO, Jim Murren. "We look forward to expanding our customer base into this exciting new league and sports betting opportunity."

"Our focus has always been to bring together best-in-class partners to build a spring football league that will change the landscape of professional sports," said Charlie Ebersol, XFL CEO and co-founder, "We realized our overall mission and vision were in complete alignment with MGM. As one of the world's largest and most successful gaming companies, and an industry leader in innovation, together we can revolutionize the sports wagering experience for fans in a way that's never been done before. I'm proud to welcome them to the XFL as our first official corporate investor."

XFL Names Doug Whaley SVP, Football Operations

September 14, 2018

Las Vegas, NV – The XFL announced that Doug Whaley, former General Manager of the NFL's Buffalo Bills, has been named the league's Senior Vice President, Football Operations, reporting directly to Commissioner Oliver Luck. With more than 20 years of professional football experience, Whaley spent the majority of his career with the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.

"Based on his passion for all aspects of football, his intellect and vast experience as an NFL General Manager, we believe that Doug is the perfect choice to lead the XFL's Football Operations," said Luck. "The quality of the on-field product is paramount to the XFL's success, and Doug, who is tech-savvy and a firm believer in analytics, brings football credibility and a strong work ethic to the team. I'm excited to begin working with him as we reimagine the game."

"I would like to thank Oliver for giving me the opportunity to help bring their vision for the XFL to life," said Whaley. "I'm excited to get started knowing we have a lot of work ahead of us. Nothing is more important than developing a fun, fast-paced game that football fans will embrace, and I look forward to making this challenge a reality."

Vince McMahon expects to spend $500 million on XFL

September 20, 2018

Stamford, CT – Vince McMahon's commitment to his relaunched football league, the XFL, is significantly larger than originally expected. The WWE chairman, who began funding the league by selling approximately $100 million in WWE stock and putting it into his wholly owned subsidiary Alpha Entertainment, has informed insiders that he expects to spend closer to $500 million in the league's first three seasons. The XFL is scheduled to reboot in February 2019. "People were focused on the $100 million, but the truth is that doesn't even get us to the 20-yard line," XFL commissioner Oliver Luck told ESPN.

Luck said the biggest cost will be the salaries to pay players and coaches. He said that the average salary for the 50-man rosters will hover around $40,000, with players who are more in demand making much more than that. Players in the first iteration of the XFL, co-owned by McMahon and NBC, paid players an average of $45,000 for a 10-week schedule. Another significant cost is insurance to cover player injuries. "I've been at all levels of football, and the importance of a broad-based insurance program cannot be understated," Luck said. Luck said that before McMahon announced the relaunch of the league, one of his first moves was to secure an insurance policy for the league. "There are very few participants who underwrite for this market anymore and it is obviously costly," he said. Luck didn't say how much coverage the league will have but did say that the insurance premiums will come to more than $10 million a year.

XFL Partners with The Spring League

September 25, 2019

Stamford, CT – The XFL announced that it has formed a partnership with The Spring League, an elite professional football development organization, to test changes to rules and gameplay as it works to reimagine the game. The Spring League will take the field in Austin, Texas from October 28 to November 11 and will provide players the opportunity to showcase their ability in front of XFL, NFL and other professional football talent evaluators. While doing so, coaches will work closely with football operations executives from the XFL to blend in on-field adjustments the league has been researching and developing since announcing its return just under nine months ago.

"We believe that conducting live R&D sessions to test our potential game adjustments in real time is critical," said Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner. "Putting the best product on the field is our number one priority and thanks to partners like The Spring League, we are confident that any changes we decide to employ will have the desired effect."

"This is an exciting partnership for The Spring League," said Brian Woods, CEO of The Spring League. "We applaud the XFL's effort to reimagine the game and simultaneously provide our players an additional opportunity to display their talents for XFL coaches and scouts in attendance."

The XFL to Host Quarterback Draft in Las Vegas

September 31, 2018

Las Vegas, NV – The XFL will hold a "Protect or Pick" Quarterback Draft, live from the new Esports Arena Las Vegas at The Luxor on October 27th. Television partner CBS Sports will broadcast the first-of-its-kind draft. Former Super Bowl champion and head of football development for the XFL, Hines Ward, will host the draft.

Quarterbacks are allocated based on where they competed in college. If a player's college is outside the XFL footprint, he is allocated based on his last NFL/CFL team. If a player's college is outside the XFL allocation footprint and he did not play in the NFL or CFL, then he is unallocated. The XFL will hold a quarterback skills camp October 12-14 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, where player personnel groups from each team will be present to further evaluate signed quarterbacks ahead of the draft.

The "Protect or Pick" draft format begins with each team deciding if they want to protect one quarterback that has been allocated to them from their region. If a team elects to protect, they name the player they are protecting as their first selection in the draft. If they decide to pick, they wait until every other team has made their decision. Once each team makes their decision, the teams that elected to not protect a player make their selection, in the order of the draft, from the remaining pool of all available quarterbacks regardless of region. The XFL quarterback draft will be comprised of four rounds. The San Diego Fleet have the first pick in the draft, followed by the Birmingham Iron, Mexico City Conquerors, Orlando Apollos, Atlanta Alphas, St. Louis Stallions, Memphis Express and San Antonio Commanders.

"We look forward to working closely with television partner CBS to tell the stories behind this amazing group of talented, determined and motivated group of quarterbacks, live from Las Vegas," said Charlie Ebersol, XFL co-founder and CEO. "Our unique 'Protect or Pick' format adds intrigue to our first-ever live broadcast while ensuring we stay true to our guiding principles of putting high quality football on the field and creating strong, authentic connections with our local market fans by keeping hometown favorites, home."

"From combines held over the summer, to our upcoming quarterback camp in San Antonio, our experienced group of GM's and scouts from each team continue to be impressed with the level of talent on display and available to them," said Bill Polian, XFL Head of Football. "Our regional allocation system and the 'Protect or Pick' draft format were designed to strike a competitive balance across the league and fuel local market interest. The quarterback position is critical to a team's success, so we knew the importance of making sure each team had a top-tier quarterback at the helm. We're confident this group represents the best available players in the market. They are looking forward to the opportunity to begin, extend or revitalize their professional careers, and we're going to do everything in our power to help them succeed on and off the field."

Las Vegas, NV - The XFL unveiled it's new team uniforms for it's inaugural season at a spectacular event at the Grand Hall of the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas. "We listened to the fans who wanted dynamic and distinctive uniforms for eight teams and you can tell by the reaction here that they are pleased with the results," said XFL Co-Founder Charlie Ebersol. "Some of our marquee players were eager to be here this week and model the uniforms for the first time and only a few weeks from now they will be proudly wearing them again when the XFL season kicks off.

"We could not be more excited to unveil our new team uniforms. Countless hours of creative sessions and collaboration went into bringing these team brands to life. Each team's identity represents the fabric of their local community while also embodying the XFL's vision and ethos. They are authentic, dynamic, modern, and unapologetically bold," said Vince McMahon, XFL Co-Founder. "We can't wait to see our XFL fans representing their favorite XFL teams this upcoming season."

"Every one of these uniforms has a unique energy, intensity, and electricity that each team and their fans will bring on game day. Now is the time for our fans to get behind a team, their team and wear these logos and represent their city with pride," Ebersol added. "From the start, Vince and I have wanted to deliver our fans nothing but the best, and it is motivating to see our creative vision come to life. We have our cities, our team identities, and our rockstar coaches. Now we get to fill our rosters with hungry and deserving players that will wear their uniforms with XFL pride."

"The team names and logos are the results of the diligent work and tireless collaboration between the league marketing team, ownership and our creative partners. This is the moment where our brand comes to life and our shared vision becomes reality for our cities and fans everywhere," added McMahon. The XFL Announces Full Schedule for 2019 Season

October 15, 2018

San Francisco, CA – The XFL announced its 10-week, 40-game regular season schedule. The first snap will take place February 9, 2019 with the Orlando Apollos hosting the Atlanta Alphas at Spectrum Stadium, while the San Diego Fleet open at The Alamodome against the San Antonio Commanders. Rounding out opening weekend, on Sunday, February 10, the Birmingham Iron will host the Memphis Express at Legion Field Stadium, and the Conquerors will welcome the St. Louis Stallions to Mexico City.

The Saturday opening night slate features head ball coach Steve Spurrier's much anticipated return to the sidelines for the Apollos and veteran head coach Brad Childress at the reigns of the Alphas along with the coaching debut of Michael Vick as the team's offensive coordinator. Deep in the heart of Texas fans will get their first look at San Diego's newest pro football team and the exciting return of football to San Antonio with Mike Martz and the Fleet taking on Mike Riley and the Commanders.

"One of the driving factors behind the vision of the XFL was the fact that millions of Americans simply stop watching sports and playing fantasy every February, the moment a Super Bowl champion is crowned," said Charlie Ebersol, XFL Co-Founder. "There's a significant void in the market that will now be filled with top-flight, professional football. The reception thus far in each of our eight markets has been tremendous, and unveiling our season one schedule is yet another significant milestone for the league. There are exciting matchups and storylines unfolding, and the XFL is looking forward to giving fans exactly what they want, more football."

"It is also fitting that our final game take place in the mecca of sports betting, as our proprietary tech platform and partnership with MGM Resorts will revolutionize the sports wagering experience for fans. The atmosphere will be electric, we look forward to hosting an incredible matchup at Sam Boyd Stadium to conclude our inaugural season, and we're grateful to our partners at LVE for helping make this happen."

They are all vying for another shot in professional football."
