XFL Week 14: Stampede Continue to Roll After Road Victory over Showboats
June 29, 2024
Salt Lake City, UT - The Oklahoma City Stampede defeated the Salt Lake Showboats on the road for their sixth straight win of the 2024 season. The victory clinched a playoff berth for the Stampede as they pursue their third consecutive championship. The Stampede forced three turnovers and those turnovers were converted into 14 points for Oklahoma City who cruised to a 39-21 victory. Salt Lake jumped on top early. QB Case Cookus hooked up with TE Sage Surratt for a 10-yard touchdown pass to cap a 59-yard scoring drive and put the Showboats in front 6-0. Oklahoma City responded on its next possession with a 75-yard march that was capped by a RB Ricky Person 5-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion pass from Martinez to TE Jordan Thomas put the Stampede on top 8-6 and they never trailed again. A RB CJ Marable 4-yard touchdown reception from Martinez put Oklahoma City on top 16-6. Salt Lake responded with a field goal to pull within seven points, 16-9. With just under one minute remaining in the first half, the Showboats stuffed a fake punt and looked to have some momentum. But disaster struck on the next play, Cookus was hit in the backfield and fumbled. Oklahoma City recovered at the Salt Lake 38-yard line with 41 seconds left in the half. Three plays later, Martinez found WR Marlon Williams for a 28-yard score to take a 22-9 lead into the locker room.
By the end of the third quarter, Oklahoma City built the lead to 31-12 behind a field goal and an 80-yard scoring strike from Martinez to WR Kevin Austin. Williams caught another Martinez touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give his team a 39-12 lead. Salt Lake WR Dee Anderson caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from backup QB Troy Williams and also caught a pass for the 3-point conversion to account for the final score.

XFL Week 14: London Crusaders Knock off Houston 22-8
June 29, 2024
London, ENGLAND - The London Crusaders delivered a decisive 22-8 victory over the Houston Roughnecks for the 42,969 fans in attendance. The Crusaders held the Roughnecks scoreless through the first 46 minutes, 55 seconds of game time that established a franchise-record. Houston RB Mark Thompson ended the streak with a 16-yard rushing touchdown with 13:05 left in the game, which narrowed London lead to 14-6. The Roughnecks threatened to erase the rest of their deficit when they drove into Crusaders territory with under 8 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The London defense, however, forced a turnover on downs on 4th-and-6 when DB Kameron Kelly stopped DB Justin Hall at the 33 yard line after a 5-yard reception with 4:59 left in the game. The Crusaders turned that stop into a touchdown in four plays. QB AJ McCarron launched a 36-yard pass to WR Hakeem Butler for Butler's second touchdown catch of the game with 3:06 left in the game. McCarron then found RB Jacob Saylors for a two-point conversion that gave London a 16-point lead. The Roughnecks' final points came via a safety when P Sterling Hofrichter ran out the clock by running into the end zone.
The Crusaders took a 14-0 lead into halftime thanks to a 1-yard touchdown pass from McCarron to WR Steven Mitchell as time expired in the first half. McCarron completed the scoring drive with a 5-yard pass to TE Jake Sutherland for the two-point conversion. LB Mike Rose put the Crusaders in position for that score with his first forced fumble of the season when he knocked the ball loose from Roughnecks RB Mark Thompson with 50 seconds left in the second quarter. DL TJ Pesefea Jr. recovered the fumble at the London 38 yard line. After a scoreless first quarter, the Crusaders broke through with a 13-play, 80-yard drive that covered 8:41 of the second quarter, the team's longest drive of the season by time of possession. Butler made a 17-yard catch for his team-leading fourth touchdown catch from McCarron with 6:12 remaining in the first half to give London a 6-0 lead.

XFL Week 14: Jake Bates Kicks Walk-Off Winner for Panthers in 28-27 Win Over Renegades
June 30, 2024
Detroit, MI - Jake Bates and his leg played hero once again for the Detroit Panthers, as he kicked a 42-yard, game-winning field goal to defeat the Dallas Renegades 28-27 at Ford Field. Detroit's defense also held QB Luis Perez, league leader in passing yards, to 180 yards. Detroit jumped out to an early lead with a nine-yard touchdown pass from QB Danny Etling to WR Siaosi Mariner. That made it consecutive weeks with a touchdown on the Panthers opening drive. RB Wes Hills ran in the one-point attempt to lead 7-0. Both squads traded field goals in the first quarter, as K Jake Bates nailed a 43-yard try near the end of the quarter and Detroit led 10-3 after the first frame. On Dallas' ensuing drive, Panthers DL Ron'Dell Carter sacked Perez to put the Renegades in third-and-long, which later resulted in a punt. Dallas took their first lead later in the quarter with a 12-yard rushing score by RB Dae Dae Hunter. Perez then connected with WR Deontay Burnett on the two-point conversion to lead 11-10. With less than a minute in the half, Perez went deep on third down and found WR JaVonta Payton for 31 yards. Two plays later, Perez threaded the needle down the middle for a 19-yard touchdown pass to TE Sal Cannella. Detroit was able to score points in the final seconds to end the half on a positive. Bates came through once again from deep, this time a 60-yard field goal to make it a 17-13 game heading into intermission. It is the third time this season he has connected from 60+ yards.
The Panthers forced an immediate three-and-out on Dallas to begin the second half. Detroit's offense was stuck in a 3rd-and-16 on their ensuing drive, but Etling stood tall and delivered a 22-yard pass to Mariner. Two defensive pass interference penalties on Dallas helped drive the Panthers down the field. After an Etling sack, Bates came in for a field goal attempt but was roughed by a member of Dallas, giving Detroit new life. The Panthers were unable to capitalize, as Bates came back in to drill a 29-yard field goal to make it a 17-16 game. The Renegades extended their lead when Payton found the endzone with a 14-yard rushing touchdown. After a successful one-point conversion, Dallas led 24-16. On a crucial third down, Etling found Marcus Simms for a 11-yard catch and run for the first down. Etling connected with WR Samson Nacua on the very next play for a gain of 18. The drive ended with the third field goal of the game for Bates, as he hit paydirt from 49-yards to cut Dallas' lead to five with under eight minutes left in the game. Looking to put the game away, Dallas went for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 46-yard line. RB DeVeon Smith took the handoff but was stuffed at the line by Palmore and DB Kai Nacua, turning the ball over on downs. On the first play of Detroit's drive, Etling called his number and scrambled 40 yards to the six-yard line. Two plays later, Hills found the endzone with a three-yard rushing score. Detroit could not convert the two-point conversion, but the Panthers led 25-24. Only needing a field goal to win the game, Dallas took their time on offense. They were unable to drain the rest of the clock, but K Jonathan Garibay gave the Renegades the lead with a 48-yard field goal with 54 seconds left. Simms put the Panthers in great field position with a 45-yard kick return, in addition to a facemask penalty on the Renegades. Starting the drive on the 31-yard line, it did not take much to get into field goal range. Bates locked in and kicked a 42-yard field goal to win it for the Panthers as time expired.

June 30, 2024
Washington, DC - The Washington Defenders won against the Berlin Thunder, 18-12 at Audi Field in Washington. The Thunder struck first in the second quarter scoring a 43-yard field goal by K Ryan Santoso. The Defenders responded in the waning minutes of the first half with a two-yard rushing touchdown by RB Camron Harris to head to the locker room with a 6 to 3 lead. Extending their lead early in the third quarter was DC by way of a K Matthew McCrane 54-yard field goal, but not for long after a two-yard touchdown from QB Quinten Dormady to RB John Lovett in the aspiring seconds in the third to send it at 9 apiece heading into the final quarter. Field goals from McCrane and Santoso evened it back at 12 for the Defenders and the Thunder through the midway point of the final 15 minutes. Just the third touchdown from either team as the Defenders grabbed back the lead at 18 to 12 with a 13-yard touchdown reception from QB Jordan Ta'Amu to WR Kelvin Harmon with 5:07 to go in the game which ended the game due to the DC defense stepping up and securing the win.
