After finishing the season does the draft have real players for the time or fictional?

If you are doing a historical replay you will get the appropriate players continuing on in the career

Wait, hold up. If i start a season in 1976 i can continue on every year until present day with real players? Is 1976 the first season to start with?

There is an option to start a historical replay in any year since 1976 - its the middle option on the league creation screen
