From my understanding once you have selected one of the pre-configured leagues that has been modded in the game you cannot use that format for a second similar league, i.e. the CFL mod I created used the Custom10Team18Game format without having to manually alter the teams thereby negating the loaded format. So an online league that may use an altered xml would create a constraint for the user to reuse that format without lots of work.

Consideration for the future. Having the possibility of using "multiple" team.xml files would allow the user/player to run multiple configurations of the same league format that has been modded. From the league construction page you would still select the format desired but they would be choosing from multiple files vice the one. Today we can create multiple leagues in the same format but must reconfigure the teams if we want to create a fictional or alternate set up. If there could be an option to import a unique xml that is pre-configured then the user could choose that thereby eliminating any time involved in setting up teams one by one. So if it allows being able to enter a league name and the link it to a configuration I believe would help this; i.e. League="CFL" Format="custom10team18games". Probably not possible.

Or would it be possible to add pre-configured leagues to the xml AND have them show on the drop down as a selection? No doubt you will say no but I had to ask.
