Maybe its me, but how do you see the names and the players on the field.

You can't unless you change the icons to player number rather than position in the game options and then memorize all the numbers of your players.

I'd like to recommend this info be displayed in the 2D game if possible. It would add to immersion and would be great if it could be in the rotating tiles that currently have stats even if that means no stats will be displayed. Or, at least as a toggle for those that do want stats rather than personnel on the field.

You can change what the bubble displays in the options screen. Names are not a current option.
