The social types are abstractions over a range of underlying personality ratings (confrontationality, extrovert and such), most of the work is done by the underlying ratings. The social types and underlying ratings determine how players behave when interacting with other persons or entities (other players, coaches, teams, media).
For the 21 version the effects arent pervasive through every aspect of the game, but we wanted to get the core interaction engine in, and start using it in different places, since this is the foundation for some of the immersion ideas we have for the future,
