I've noticed that after clicking the call play button the little black box that shows down and distance under the game clock will flash the next down and distance before the play happens on the field. It will basically tell you if the play is successful before it plays out on the field.

Yes, and the buttons for KIck XP or 2 Point Conversion will also flash, so you know whether it's a TD or not before you watch the play.
There are a few other things on screen that give away the result of the play in advance.
