Play/Sim greyed out

Hi all - I purchased DDSPB21 a month or so ago and didn't pick it up again until recently. I loaded my league, and I saw in the upper right corner pulldown is Commissioner and below that is the GM I created. When I am in Commisioner mode, I can Play/Sim games, however, when I select the GM, Play/Sim is greyed out. I can't remember exactly how I set up the league originally, but could someone tell me how I can enable the Play/Sim option when I'm logged on as the GM of a particular team (in this case, the Celtics)?

I also noticed while logged on as a GM that I'm unable to do trades, even obviously lopsided in the other teams favor, as the Trade button is grayed out as well.
