Maybe I missed it, but is there a way to instruct your players to hold for the last shot at the end of the game or half? If not, that should definitely be added. Otherwise really enjoying the game.

Check the Stall box on the 2D screen. Players don't always do it right every-time but just like real life better player IQ, passing, and handling will effect how where well they do. I also set my pace to very slow after about the 5 minute mark if I have a good lead.
