I'm assuming route running is not not in the game. Is this something that would be possible to implement? Example: a player would have a route running rating and it affects the outcome of the play.

Not that I'm a dev but I think things like route running are sort of "captured" in ratings like position skill rating and to a smaller degree intelligence ratings. I do think this game would benefit by adding more ratings though. Route running for WRs, Man Coverage and zone coverage ratings for DBs, pocket presence for QBs, etc.

Route running is not in the game as a rating. There are intelligence checks in however that can affect outcomes at various positions.
