Basically win and or keep players that the fans can get attached to.

So it's not all witchcraft.
It might be an idea, that if the home team's fans outnumber the away fans, that would give the home team a small advantage on game day.

Q.: How do we recognize, how do we identify players that fans can attach to?

The longer a player is on a team the more the fans get attached to them... if you let veterans go the fans may get upset and not support the team as much... unless you win anyway in which case they'll get over it and get attached to new players.

Ever consider adding "League" favorites? That way if you pick up a "League" favorite in free agency you actually get a bump in your fan base approval.

Add to that "League" detractors. Players whose negative personality if selected may impact team performance as well as your fan base.
